Chapter 188: Daddy, Mommy, Lie Down!
After almost two hours, Lorianne finally finished making her choices. Aside from the hut-style bed frame, she also picked bookshelves, a study desk, a study chair and a few other furniture pieces.
Manager Higgins invited Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne to the waiting lounge as they finalized the purchases. A few catalogues were spread on the coffee table, alongside some refreshments.
“Do you have any special requests, CEO Faulkner? How about you, Mrs. Faulkner?”
Manager Higgins had been addressing Elsie as Mrs. Faulkner. When the lady wanted to correct the manager, Nathaniel butted in by bringing up questions related to the home center.
Elsie eventually let the issue go. She threw Nathaniel a knowing look, to which the man replied with a sheepish grin.
“Lorrie, which colors do you want?”
“Hmm… I want…”
Elsie helped Lorianne when the little one was confused about choosing the colors. They ended up picking white as the base color with pastel pink and purple as the accents.
“Your requests are simple. We don’t need to change the materials. Adding the accent colors won’t take long.”
Manager Higgins promised Nathaniel and Elsie that everything would be prepared in one week, just around the time the renovations would be completed.
“We’ll inform your assistant when everything’s ready, CEO Faulkner,” Manager Higgins told Nathaniel at the end of their discussion, “Please reach out to us at this number if you have any further inquiries.”
“I’ll do that.”
Nathaniel replied curtly. He signed the documents handed by Manager Higgins regarding the purchases without much thought. All he could think now was the completion of Lorianne’s new bedroom.
“Mommy, Mommy, can I lie on the bed before we leave? The bed I’ve chosen?”
“You can’t, my darling. It’s for display.”
As Nathaniel turned to Elsie and Lorianne, he caught the conversation between the mother and daughter. The lady was cradling the little one while sitting on a couch.
Manager Higgins also heard what Lorianne said. Smiling, she politely told her, “If Miss Lorianne wants to try lying on the bed, you can do that. Feel free to do so.”
“Yayy! Thank you!”
Before Elsie and Nathaniel could say anything, Lorianne happily thanked Manager Higgins. The little one hurriedly slid down from her mommy’s lap, tugging at her skirt.
“Mommy, let’s go!”
Unable to say no to Lorianne, Elsie nodded with a helpless smile. She thanked Manager Higgins before walking out of the lounge with the little girl.
Nathaniel glanced at Elsie and Lorianne before looking at Manager Higgins. The little one’s merry laughter echoed outside of the lounge.
“No need to follow us now. Thank you for your assistance today, Manager Higgins.”
“It’s my pleasure, CEO Faulkner,” Manager Higgins bowed slightly, remaining polite, “I hope you and your family enjoy the rest of your time here. Please call any of the staff if you need our help.”
Nathaniel simply nodded. Spinning around on his heels, he walked past the entrance of the lounge, trying to catch up to Elsie and Lorianne.
The home center was relatively quiet. Nathaniel had only seen a few customers in the past few hours. None of them wandered to the children’s section.
“Daddy! Come here!”
Lorianne dashed toward Nathaniel once she saw him, her little footsteps echoing in the area. She quickly grabbed his hand, tugging him to follow her.
“Hahaha! Why are you in a hurry? Don’t run!”
“Hurry!”

Elsie watched Nathaniel and Lorianne from a distance, laughter rolling out of her mouth. It was funny seeing their short daughter trying to drag her much taller and bulkier father around.
“Daddy, sleep! Lie down.”
Lorianne pushed Nathaniel’s leg, trying to get him to lie on the display bed, the very one she had chosen earlier. The man chuckled, completely helpless by the little one’s demand.
“Aren’t you the one who wanna lie on the bed?” Nathaniel arched his brows, a smile still tugging on his lips, “I’m taller than the bed.”
The bed was relatively large for a children’s bed, but Nathaniel knew his height wouldn’t fit at all. At most, his calves would hang over the edge of the bed.
Tilting her head, Lorianne stared at Nathaniel. The man began to sweat at the sight of his daughter’s unsatisfied look.
Haha… Did he make a mistake?
Should he just lie on the bed no matter what?
Lorianne said nothing. She continued staring at Nathaniel, her look clearly telling that she was not happy.
“…Daddy will lie on the bed, don’t worry.”
Under his five-year-old daughter’s silent stare, the usually unapproachable CEO Faulkner slowly bent down before lying on the mattress. He kicked off his shoes, afraid of accidentally dirtying the bed frame.
Nathaniel felt awkward lying on a children’s bed in a home center. Pursing his lips, he glanced at Lorianne before catching the funny look on Elsie’s face.
“…”
“Good, Daddy has lie down,” Lorianne clapped her hands twice, her countenance beaming. She looked at Elsie next, “Mommy, your turn now.”
“…me?”
Dumbfounded, Elsie pointed at herself. She blinked several times, not believing what Lorianne had just said.
“Yup! Mommy’s turn now. Go lie next to Daddy. Hurry!”
Lorianne patted the mattress, urging Elsie to do what she had just been told. The little one’s look showed that she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“Lorrie… Mommy won’t fit there.”
Elsie racked her brain, trying to find excuses. Her eyes darted from Lorianne to the space beside Nathaniel. She had to squeeze closely to him if she did lie there.
If this was years ago, she wouldn’t have had any problem with it.
But, now… their relationship was not like before.
“Mommy can’t?” Lorianne pouted, her eyes teary, “Then, I can’t sleep with Mommy and Daddy on this bed? We need a big, big bed? But… I wanna sleep with Mommy and Daddy.”
Elsie and Nathaniel were both speechless. None of them expected that Lorianne would have such a thought. They simply assumed the little girl wanted to play with them.
“Oh, my dear…”
Elsie kneeled down, bringing Lorianne into her arms. The little one’s words pricked her heart, flooding it with guilt.
Nathaniel abruptly sat up, awkwardly looking at Lorianne and Elsie. The little girl didn’t cry, but she hugged her mommy tightly.
Sleeping together with her parents, huh?
If they were a normal, happy family… Lorianne wouldn’t seem sad.
