Chapter 189: Make The Most Of Everything
“Mommy will lie on the bed. Is that okay… Lorrie?”
Elsie gently stroked Lorianne’s head, hoping her words would cheer the little one. Even though she didn’t cry but, the evident sorrow in Lorianne’s voice tugged at her heartstrings.
“Mommy will?”
Lorianne pulled backward, her face beaming in happy surprise. Elsie smiled bitterly at the sight of her daughter’s glossy eyes.
“Yes. I will.”
Elsie unconsciously held her breath for a second. Releasing Lorianne from her hug, she slowly stood up and turned toward the bed. Her eyes collided with Nathaniel’s who was sitting up.
“Elsie… I’ll make more room for you,” said Nathaniel, almost stuttering. He scooted backward, his back touching the hanging shelves of the bed frame.
“Thank you.”
Elsie lightly scratched her face, feeling the heat emanating from her cheeks. She laughed in helplessness when Lorianne was openly staring at her and Nathaniel.
Haha… She never imagined lying on a bed in a showroom because of her daughter’s teary eyes.
Lowering herself on the mattress, Elsie kicked off her heels before bringing her legs up. She tried not to be conscious of Nathaniel’s gaze as she moved near the middle before lying on her back.
Nathaniel swallowed, tearing his eyes away from Elsie. He slowly lay back on the mattress, feeling it sink under his weight.
‘…damn it.’
Her familiar fragrance lingered to the tip of his nose, tempting him to reach for her and bring her into his arms. He grasped the sides of his pants while battling his inner desire.
Thankfully, Lorianne’s exclamation distracted Nathaniel.
“Yay! Now it’s my turn! I’m coming!”
Lorianne hurriedly climbed on the bed after taking off her shoes. Giggling, she crawled to the space between Elsie and Nathaniel, squeezing in the middle.
Elsie and Nathaniel briefly looked at one another before their eyes fell on Lorianne. The little one’s laughter bounced off the walls, infecting the air with her evident joy.
“Mommy, Daddy,” Lorianne looked from Elsie to Nathaniel, her eyes sparkling, “I’m happy. Hehehe~”
She had imagined lying on a bed, squeezing between her mommy and daddy even before meeting him. She envied her friends, who often shared stories of how their parents came to their bed whenever they had nightmares.
Now that they had reunited, shouldn’t she come forward with her dream?
Nathaniel blinked, his eyes seeing the clear happiness radiating from Lorianne’s face. A pang of pain constricted his heart.
“It’s good that you’re happy, Lorrie,” Nathaniel began, his voice slightly hoarse. He extended his hand, carefully patting Lorianne’s tiny arm, “As long as you’re happy…”
He would do anything for her—their daughter who should be cherished tenderly.
Elsie curled her lips, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. Lying on her side, she looked at Lorianne, whose giggles continued slipping out of her mouth.
Elsie had seen Lorianne happy countless times, but the little one showed a different, more merry side of her. Seeing the change stirred conflicted feelings within her.
But…
All that mattered was the little one’s happiness.
“Hehe, you like it so much, Lorrie?”
Elsie’s lips softened into a sincere smile. She reached for the giggling Lorianne before kissing her forehead. The little one responded by hugging her.

“Yes! I like it so much!”
Nathaniel pursed his lips, feeling his heartbeat speed up within him. Another kind of warmth swirled from the depth of his heart, slowly making its way up until it enveloped his whole core.
Lorianne wasn’t the only one who imagined lying on the bed with her parents. Nathaniel was the same, only in the context of seeing his lover and their beloved child.
This image often came to Nathaniel’s mind even before Elsie revealed she was pregnant with their first child—Lorianne.
After Elsie disappeared and Nathaniel assumed she lost their child, this image that he used to yearn for before only tormented him.
Now… his dream had come true.
Parting his lips, Nathaniel said, his voice still raspy, “Your daddy here is happy if you’re happy, Lorrie.”
“Hehehe~ I love Daddy and Mommy so much!”
Driven by the joy on Lorianne’s glowing countenance, Nathaniel scooted closer. He extended his arms, bringing both Lorianne and Elsie into his arms.
The little one’s giggles became louder as she tried to hug him back. As for the lady, she hesitantly returned his embrace, her face reddening amidst her teary eyes.
Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne finally left Zenith Haus after spending more time on the bed. The adults smiled sheepishly at one another while the child only beamed with more delight.
Manager Higgins sent the family of three to the door, promising to deliver the furniture of Lorianne’s choice as scheduled.
“Shall we get early dinner?” Nathaniel asked once they got inside the car, “Or… will you go home already?”
Elsie glanced at Nathaniel beside her, sensing the reluctance on his face and in his voice. Smiling, she chuckled softly.
“I wanted to invite you for dinner too. You beat me to it,” Elsie covered her mouth, still laughing at Nathaniel, whose face showed traces of awkwardness, “Hehe, do you have any suggestions?”
“I wanna eat with Mommy and Daddy!” Lorianne chimed from the back seat, eagerly raising both of her hands.
Elsie had specifically told Michelle that she and Lorianne would dine outside for dinner, intending to invite Nathaniel for dinner. She also had a hunch that the man would do the same.
“I know a few restaurants that have a good kids’ menu. I mean, the other dishes are delicious too but… I’m saying that both you and Lorrie will enjoy the meals.”
Nathaniel inwardly berated himself for still acting awkwardly in front of Elsie and Lorianne. His usual rigid features softened as he faced the lady and their child.
“Oh? That sounds like you’ve been looking for restaurants with good kids’ menus,” Elsie arched her brows, teasing Nathaniel, whose cheeks reddened, “Did you do the same for other places? Like parks, for example?”
“Hehe… I’m just afraid I might bring Lorrie to a restaurant not suitable for her,” Nathaniel chuckled, he glanced at Lorianne at the back, “We can’t meet every day, so, I hope to make the most out of our single outing together.”
Nathaniel’s answer didn’t surprise Elsie. He had been that way ever since they started dating years ago.
No matter how much time had passed, his consideration never failed to amaze her.
