Chapter 206: Little Chicks in Uniforms
Kathleen chuckled, entertained by Lorianne’s spirit, “You can. You’ll have so much fun with your new friends here. Do you like drawing? Or maybe storytime?”
Lorianne’s eyes lit up at the mention of drawing. Bobbing her little head up and down, she said, “I like coloring too!”
“Oh, that’s wonderful!” Kathleen clapped her hands once. She explained enthusiastically, “We have a big art corner here with lots of crayons, paints and stickers! You’ll love them!”
“I wanna see them!”
Nathaniel and Elsie exchanged a look. The man looked relieved as he watched how well Lorianne interacted with the teacher she had just met.
Kathleen rose to her feet. Smiling at Nathaniel and Elsie, she gestured toward the open entrance, “Please make your way inside. The counter in the lobby will assist you with Lorianne’s registration.”
Elsie nodded, “Thank you, Miss Kathleen.”
Two staff were manning the counter as Elsie and Nathaniel led Lorianne inside. They quickly finalized the little one’s registration, including bringing her to her new class.
“Dear parents, you may follow us to your children’s classes!” announced one of the teachers, attracting everyone’s attention.
Most parents stayed even though their children were returning students. The family of three followed the others further down the hallway, leading to the classrooms.
“Mommy, Daddy, look! My new class!”
Lorianne pointed to a classroom with a colorful signboard above the door, labeling ‘Shooting Star Class’. The outside wall was painted in pastel yellow and decorated with vibrant doodles.
“Shooting stars?” Elsie playfully arched her brows. She bent down to smooth Lorianne’s shirt, “Like the ones in the space princess storybook?”
“Hehe~ The same. Both the same, Mommy.”
Lorianne let out hearty giggles, happy to remember one of her favorite storybooks. In the particular book, a princess traveled from one galaxy to the next by riding a shooting star.
Nathaniel’s heart was flooded with relief. Lorianne, his little princess, was a high-spirited young girl. He believed she would make new friends and create a spot just for herself in this kindergarten.
“Students! Please line up before you enter the classroom!”
“Yes, Miss Beth!”
The children quickly formed a queue once the teacher, named Elizabeth and called Beth, told them to. Lorianne joined them without wasting time. She blended in with the other children who wore the same uniform as her.
“Aren’t they like cute little chicks, Niel?” Elsie whispered softly, trying to hold back her giggles.
“They sure do,” Nathaniel mused, a smile was drawn on his lips, “It’ll be better if their uniform is yellow.”
“Hehehe.”
Elsie covered her mouth, her eyes trailed after Lorianne who looked forward to enter the class. The little one seemed not to care that her parents were still around, watching every movement of hers.
Soon, the little chicks in blue and white uniforms started walking inside the classroom in a queue. The parents couldn’t take their eyes off their children, including Elsie and Nathaniel.
Inside, Elizabeth skillfully led the children to the tables, prioritizing the smaller children in the front. She also reminded the children that their seat number was the same as their cubbies.
The children moved to place their bags in their respective cubbies. Once they returned to their seats, Elizabeth invited the parents to come inside.
“Let’s go, Niel,” Elsie tugged at Nathaniel’s sleeve as she found him caught in a trance.
“…yes.”
They joined the other parents, walking past the door to the bright and welcoming classroom.
The children were already settled in. Some chatted happily while the others waved and called their parents.

The sunlight streamed through the large windows, illuminating the neatly arranged tables in white and the shelves. Puzzles, stuffed animals and books filled every rack of the shelves.
On the back corner of the spacious classroom was a cozy reading nook with colorful bean bags. Next to it was a small indoor play area with building blocks.
Colorful posters of numbers, letters and adorable animal characters decorated the walls. Paired with the beautiful view of the yard outside, the classroom looked very inviting.
“Lorrie, how do you feel? Do you like it?”
Nathaniel gently asked Lorianne, who was placed at one of the front tables. He kneeled beside the little one sitting in a chair. Elsie crouched next to him.
“I like it so much. Daddy, so many books are there! Also puzzles!”
Lorianne nodded a few times as if she wanted to emphasize how much she loved her new kindergarten. She also pointed at the reading nook at the back.
At Elizabeth’s request, the parents moved to the back. A few of them greeted Nathaniel and Elsie, knowing that they were new.
In the front, Elizabeth stood in the middle. She clapped her hands once, smiling at the children before announcing, “Students, a new friend joins us today. Let us welcome Lorianne!”
The little heads swerved to where Elizabeth pointed. Some of them grinned while the others waved at Lorianne. The little one quickly returned the same gesture.
“Welcome, Lorianne!”
“Hello, new friend!”
“Lorianne, what should we call you?”
Elizabeth let the children move from their seats. Some of them headed to Lorianne. They began chatting with her as if she was an old friend.
Standing not far from the children, Nathaniel’s gaze never strayed away from Lorianne. Happiness swelled in his heart for seeing how cheerful she was with the other students.
Still, Nathaniel couldn’t help but feel his chest tighten from time to time.
‘I don’t want to miss any of her milestones from now on.’
Nathaniel repeated the vow, determined to follow his wish. He knew how busy he could be as the head of Faulkner Investment, but he hoped to be there for Lorianne as much as he could.
If the worst came and he was unable to live up to his promise, he had to make sure his little princess wouldn’t feel abandoned or less important.
As the children interacted among themselves, Elizabeth came to talk to the parents. She greeted Elsie and Nathaniel, promising them that the school would take care of Lorianne.
“Seems like Lorianne is quick to warm up to everyone,” Elizabeth glanced at Lorianne, smilingly praising her, “I think you don’t have to worry about her.”
“She can be very outgoing,” Elsie chuckled, yet her voice still hinting of worry, “This is her first time in Velondia. Please don’t hesitate to inform us about anything. She hasn’t gotten used to this country yet.”
Lorianne’s bubbly personality was helpful in this kind of situation. Unfortunately, Elsie couldn’t help but worry. After all, this country was still foreign to the little one.
“Lorianne will do well, I believe that,” Elizabeth said, trying to soothe Elsie’s worries, “With supportive parents by her side, she’ll get through everything, doesn’t she?”
Elizabeth’s words led Elsie and Nathaniel to exchange a look. Seeing the similar resolve in each other’s gaze, they smiled.
“We’ll do everything to support our daughter,” Nathaniel spoke, his eyes shifting to Elizabeth. His voice was firm, “We also appreciate the school’s effort in taking care of her, also educating her.”
Elsie simply nodded, sharing the same sentiments as Nathaniel.
Both of them would be by their daughter’s side no matter what happened in the future.
