Chapter 240: Stepping Into A Dream
The afternoon nap left both Lariette and Ruediger feeling more refreshed. Instead of waking her up after half an hour, he only did so nearly one hour later.

“You slept so soundly. It’s not bad getting more nap,” was what Ruediger told Lariette when she asked him why.

Leaving the cozy little cabin, Lariette and Ruediger were ready for more fun. The sky was still bright as the afternoon sun bathed the area under its golden light.

WonderWhirl Park was still crowded as more visitors filled the streets and the attractions. They chatted excitedly as they left from one ride, going to the next.

“Storybook Hollow?” Lariette muttered.

She stared at the sign in the shape of a storybook, adorned with cursive lettering and soft watercolor illustrations. She saw the drawings of enchanted forests and castles on the sign.

“Yes,” Ruediger nodded, one corner of his lips curving up, “It’s a boat ride. Come.”

Lariette quickly followed Ruediger, her gaze was still on the entrance where towering trees with twinkling fairy lights framed the area. As they marched forward, they walked under the natural archway, formed by the tree.

“Wow~” Lariette gasped in a pleasant surprise, “Really looks like something straight out of a fairy tale.”

Lariette stared at the gentle, winding stream. The floating tiny lanterns above cast their faint glow on the water, causing it to shimmer.

The boarding dock area resembled a medieval village. Cobblestone paths lined up the way where timber-framed cottages stood on the other side of the pathway.

“Let’s get on the boat,” Ruediger gestured at the dock, his voice hinting at a smile, “We’re lucky not many people are here.”

“Let’s!”

The staff assigned Lariette and Ruediger two seats in one of the boats. Each wooden vessel had classic fantasy scenes painted on both sides, adding more charm to the ride.

Lariette and Ruediger settled onto the plush seats. The ride began as soon as the staff dressed in a medieval-style tunic and jacket rowed the boat. He stood at the backside.

“Oh, wow~”

Lariette’s eyes widened as the boat glided into a misty tunnel, adorned with softly glowing fireflies and luminous mushrooms. Ruediger’s gaze shifted to her, a gentle smile found its way to his lips.

“Oh! Eddy! They are stories!”

“Hehe, yes, they’re stories.”

Lariette covered her mouth, her cheeks flushing red thinking of her spontaneous reaction. She was just amazed to witness the moment magical dioramas unfolded before them.

A comforting voice narrated the storybook scenes that came to life.

They saw a princess dancing with her enchanted prince in a ballroom, hardworking brownie fairies cleaning a cottage, a dragon flying around a magic tower and various other scenes.

“This ride is so magical,” Lariette mused. She glanced at Ruediger, whose face illuminated by colorful lights, “Don’t you think it’s like stepping into a dream?”

Ruediger smiled, liking the way Lariette’s sapphire eyes reflected the warm glow of the lanterns, “Yeah. Something we often dreamed in childhood, en?”

Lariette chuckled, agreeing with Ruediger, “Hehe, yes.”

As the boat continued gliding down the stream, they were carried deeper into the magic of the ride.

Lariette and Ruediger’s next destination was an attraction named Lollipop Lane. It was a walkable candy wonderland, surrounded by giant sweets in various shapes and colors.

The lane had a few stops, where guests could try real edible sweets provided by the staff.

Lariette had fun taking photos at every sweet, even dragging Ruediger along. She also gathered the candies given at every stop while he gave her his sweets.

“Where should we go next?” asked Ruediger as they left Lollipop Lane, “Crystal Maze Chase or Mirror Mischief Hall?”

“Hmm… Both sound fun,” Lariette remarked after popping a strawberry candy into her mouth, “Maybe… the mischief hall first?”

“This way.”

Without any objection, Ruediger led Lariette to Mirror Mischief Hall. The place had various shapes of mirrors with magical reflections. Each would make the visitor look like a fairytale character.

“Hahaha! Eddy! I’m a witch now!”

“Oh! This one turns us into dragons!”

“Raww! I’m a werewolf! Don’t you dare run away!”

Ruediger was thoroughly entertained by Lariette who kept running from one mirror to the next, excited to see what kind of reflection they had.

Without her telling him to, he took her photos, unable to resist himself. He would print all of them if she agreed to it.

“Aren’t you tired? You’re running around like a toddler,” Ruediger laughed as he teased Lariette, the sound rumbling from his chest.

Pursing her lips, Lariette shot Ruediger one of her trademark glares. Her action only elicited more laughter from the man.

“Come here! This mirror suits you!”

Lariette quickly pulled Ruediger to the said mirror. He was initially confused before he understood why she chose this particular one.

The mirror showed him as an old bard!

“Hehehe~ Don’t you think so?” Lariette blinked her eyes, happy to tease Ruediger.

“Lettie…”

“Hahaha!”

Lariette ran away before Ruediger could do anything. He chuckled in helplessness, seriously thinking how much like an energetic toddler she was right now.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, Lariette and Ruediger went to the Crystal Maze Chase. It was their final choice before having dinner soon.

“Hmm… We need to escape this maze, right?” Lariette tapped her chin, recalling the mission once they entered the labyrinth.

“We need to solve the puzzles,” Ruediger glanced around the area, seeing illusions and glowing obstacles of the labyrinth, “Come this way.”

Lariette quickly followed Ruediger. She cursed herself for choosing to come here. Her brain was weak against riddles.

Fortunately, she had this all-rounder man by her side.

Once again Ruediger proved how competent he was as he solved the puzzles. Lariette was glad because at least, she was still a reliable teammate who didn’t drag him down.

“This way!”

“…it’s the exit!”

Once they finished the last riddle, Ruediger held Lariette’s hand. They stepped through a portal where lights swirled, leading them to the exit.

“Congratulations! You’ve successfully escaped the labyrinth!”

A park attendant greeted Ruediger and Lariette before presenting them with a pair of crystal bracelets as rewards. The sight of the matching jewelry made them chuckle.

“Starving, Comrade Lettie?” Ruediger glanced at Lariette, seeing the exhausted look on her face.

“Yes, Captain Eddy! Your subordinate is famished already.”

Lariette patted her tummy, her lips pouting slightly. Ruediger shook his head, laughing. Afraid of a particular someone hungry being hangry, he quickly ushered her to one of the restaurants.

“Oh, this one looks so dreamy.”

Lariette was in awe once she caught sight of the restaurant where the open-air dining area was covered with fairy lights and lanterns. Floating candles drifted above the tables, casting a soft glow.

“Wanna sit there?”

Ruediger pointed at a table near a fountain. Lariette nodded once, having no objections. Sitting at the table, they were fascinated by the gentle streams of water that glowed in soft pastel colors.

“Where are we going next?” Lariette asked after placing an order. She reminded Ruediger, “We need to drop by the souvenir shop again. I wanna buy something for Grandpa and Maddie.”

Curling his lips, Ruediger said, “How about riding the Ferris Wheel before we go home?”

“Deal!”

The beaming look on Lariette’s face stirred something in Ruediger’s heart. Even though he hadn’t professed his feelings for her, he hoped to end the day with something romantic.
