Chapter 241: His Emerald Eyes Gleamed Like Precious Jewels
The theme park was still vibrant with energy when Lariette and Ruediger left the restaurant later. The merry sound of laughter filled the air, followed by the distant screams from the thrilling rides.
Lariette’s eyes gleamed with delight as she walked beside Ruediger, in awe of seeing how well-lit the theme park was at nighttime. The vivid and colorful neon lights illuminated the entire area.
“Lettie,” Ruediger lowered his gaze, looking at Lariette with a soft smile, “Did you have fun? Which ride did you enjoy the most?”
Lariette immediately turned toward Ruediger once she heard his questions. Nodding enthusiastically, she quickly replied, “I had fun! Hehe, I think the boat ride was my favorite. Of course, all the foods I’ve tried were so amazing!”
Ruediger chuckled, amused by Lariette’s words, especially the latter half. Putting his hands into the pocket of his pants, he said, “You finished the entire macaron tower, remember?”
“Ahem, I couldn’t resist,” Lariette coughed awkwardly, but her lips still forming a grin.
“Hahaha!”
Lariette and Ruediger walked past the glowing carnival stalls, the street performers and the visitors. One of the entertainers strummed his guitar nearby, singing an upbeat song that blended well with the cheerful atmosphere.
Above them, the night sky in the deep shade of indigo stretched far beyond the horizon.
“It’s so big,” Lariette commented as she and Ruediger got nearer to the Ferris wheel, “I wonder how the park, and even the city look from up there.”
Thousands of tiny lights that twinkled like fireflies adorned one of the most popular attractions in this theme park. The wheel rotated slowly, bringing the cabins that carried people up into the sky.
Smiling, Ruediger assessed the beaming look on Lariette’s face. He was pleased to see how mesmerized she was.
Certainly, she would be happier once she saw the surprise he had planned carefully, right?
“Lettie, come.”
Ruediger gestured toward the entrance. Lariette turned to him, smiling so vibrantly, it lit up her delicate features.
Lariette and Ruediger didn’t wait long in the line. Soon, the park attendant guided them into a private cabin.
In her excitement to see the panoramic view of the park, Lariette didn’t notice the little exchange between Ruediger and the staff. She looked around before standing near the glass windows.
“Lettie, sit,” Ruediger chuckled, entertained by Lariette’s excitement. He settled in one of the seats, “You can still see the view properly even if you sit.”
“Hehe~ Okay.”
Laughing at herself, Lariette sat across from Ruediger. She pressed her hands against the cool glass, watching the scenery as their cabin slowly ascended.
“It’s so pretty from up here,” Lariette remarked, her breath fogging the window slightly, “Eddy! I can see the boat ride!”
Ruediger leaned toward the glass window, smiling as he saw the stream of the magical boat ride he took with Lariette this afternoon. The twinkling lights were so enchanting.
“Yes, that’s the boat ride.”
The Ferris wheel continued its slow rotation, bringing Lariette and Ruediger higher into the night sky. They enjoyed the view in a comfortable silence.
The theme park below, including the surrounding areas of the city, expanded out like a glowing dream. It was lovely, dazzling and full of life.
Then… just as their cabin reached the peak, the Ferris wheel came to a stop.
Lariette thought nothing of it in the beginning. She simply assumed a cabin was having an exchange of passengers. Her nose almost touched the window as she looked at the scenery before.
Then…
“E-Eddy! Power outage?”
Lariette gasped, surprised when the lights were suddenly out. Not only the ones adorning the Ferris wheel were off, but also the attractions in its proximity.

“Maybe just around this area,” replied Ruediger. His calm voice was a contrast against Lariette’s panic one, “Look, the other areas are still bright.”
Blinking, Lariette looked from the outside to Ruediger whose features were barely illuminated by the moonlight. Before she could say anything further, once again she gasped.
Burst of gold, ruby, sapphire and amethyst suddenly erupted, streaming the colors onto the dark area of the theme park.
Under Lariette’s surprised gaze, fireworks shot into the sky, exploding vibrantly in cascading patterns, reflected on her face.
“Eddy! Fireworks! It’s a firework show!” Lariette exclaimed, hands flying to her mouth. She jumped to her feet, rushing to the stand by the window.
“Yes,” Ruediger smiled, the look in his eyes unreadable, “It’s a firework show.”
Standing side by side, Lariette and Ruediger watched how the night sky bloomed with dazzling lights, each explosion chasing the darkness away.
The reflection of the fireworks shimmered on the glass, bathing them in its vibrant colors.
Below, cheers erupted from the visitors. Some of them began snapping photos and taking videos, delighted with the experience.
“Wow… I didn’t expect to see this,” Lariette tore her eyes away from the window, grinning at Ruediger, “Aren’t we so lucky, Eddy? We even got the best seat to watch this!”
Ruediger’s lips quirked into a smile, his gaze gentle. Lariette’s breath caught in her throat for a second as her eyes lingered on him.
When the fireworks burst outside, their brilliance shifted colors on his face.
The golden light glimmered over his crimson locks, turning them into molten fire. Flashes of sapphire and amethyst were reflected in his emerald eyes, they gleamed like precious jewels.
The brilliant flickers of the fireworks accentuated not only the sharp lines of his features, but also how soft his smile was.
Seeing how tenderly he looked at her swelled her heart with warmth.
When Ruediger finally replied to Lariette, his voice was as calm and gentle as his smile.
“Yes. We’re so lucky this time, Lettie.”
Blinking, Lariette smiled shyly. She quickly returned her gaze to the outside, watching the continuous explosions of the fireworks.
Ruediger also shifted his gaze from Lariette to the window. But, instead of admiring the burst of colors in the night sky, he looked at her reflection on the glass.
Once the fireworks show ended, the lights returned. Lariette glanced at Ruediger who still stood by her side, her smile sheepish.
“That’s quite a show, right?”
Ruediger nodded, “Yes. It was very brilliant.”
As the Ferris wheel resumed rotating, Lariette and Ruediger returned to their seats.
There was something subtle in the air, something pink and warm as they stared at each other—her cheeks flushed while his gaze was ever so gentle.
“Lettie,” Ruediger’s eyes remained on Lariette, his voice was a melody to her ears as he spoke, “Can I sit next to you?”
Lariette blinked, feeling her heart suspend beating for a moment before it suddenly thumped heavily in her chest. She nodded, her movement was a little stiff.
“You can… sit here.”
Lariette saw the smile on Ruediger’s lips deepen. He rose to his feet, his towering figure cast a long shadow over her before he finally sat by her side.
His warmth seemed to seep into her despite them not having any skin contact, yet.
Ruediger was pleased to see not even a hint of hesitation from Lariette’s countenance. Mustering his courage, he asked, his gaze never leaving her.
“May I hold your hand?”
Lariette’s heart skipped another beat. She felt more heat radiating from her cheeks. Still… she nodded.
“You may.”
Lariette swore the way Ruediger’s eyes gleamed after she agreed was more brilliant than the fireworks she saw earlier. His broad palm enveloped her much smaller one as he held her hand gently.
