Chapter 244: His Little Princess Wants to Bake Cookies
“…and, finally! Amanda gets her cookies, made with love by her Mom and Dad. Each one of them tastes so good but, of course! She can’t finish the entire jar in a single day.”

Nathaniel’s voice resonated in the bedroom as he finished reading the storybook for Lorianne. Both of them lay on the bed, with the little girl curled under the fluffy blanket.

Elsie was in the living room. Some nights, she was there when Nathaniel read Lorianne a story before bed. In others, she left the father and daughter alone to bond more.

Blinking her round brown eyes, Lorianne stared at Nathaniel. Her short arms hugged a bunny plushie. She was dressed in a pair of yellow pajamas with pink hearts.

“Daddy,” Lorianne opened her mouth, giggles spilling from her lips, “Can we bake cookies like Amanda and her mom and her dad too? Cookies with many many chocolate chips.”

Lorianne picked the new book Nathaniel got for her, titled ‘Amanda’s Jars of Cookies’. She almost drooled throughout the time her father read the story to her.

Lorianne’s question elicited laughter from Nathaniel. Closing the storybook, he arched his brows at his little daughter, “You want cookies with many chocolate chips?”

“Yup! They will be so yummy. Even yummier than Amanda’s cookies. Can we, Daddy?”

Lorianne’s lips slightly pouted as she tried getting Nathaniel to agree. The man continued laughing, the merry sound echoing in the bedroom.

Following Nathaniel’s move into Elysian Heights, more new routines were added to his life. He had been enjoying them so far and believed it would last forever.

For now, Lorianne still slept in Elsie’s apartment even though Nathaniel’s unit was in the same building. They didn’t want to disrupt the little one’s sense of stability despite Lorianne having a good relationship with Nathaniel.

Even when Lorianne came to play in Nathaniel’s apartment, he would bring her back to Elsie’s unit. He also read her bedtime story, something the little one clearly enjoyed, much to his relief.

Because Nathaniel had been coming and going to Elsie’s apartment now, he also had familiarized himself with Michelle’s presence. He acknowledged that the young lady was a skilled nanny and housekeeper.

“Hmm…” Nathaniel propped his arm up, supporting one side of his head. His eyes remained on Lorianne’s expectant face, “Should we bake cookies then?”

“Yes!” Lorianne repeatedly nodded her little head, resembling a little chick pecking grains, “We must! Our cookies will be yummy, Daddy.”

Nathaniel laughed further seeing how much Lorianne tried to persuade him. He wanted to tease her more, but the clock continued ticking past the little one’s bedtime.

“Okay, let’s bake cookies later,” Nathaniel leaned over, dropping little kisses on Lorianne’s small forehead, “Go to sleep, my little princess. You have school tomorrow.”

“Hehe~ Good night, Daddy. I love you~”

“I love you too, my dear.”

Nathaniel gently caressed Lorianne’s head, earning her soft giggles before he slid out of the bed. His footsteps were quiet as he walked to the door. Before closing it, once again, he wished the little one good night.

“Has she slept?”

Elsie’s voice lured Nathaniel’s attention from the door to her. She was standing in the corridor, a few feet away from him. The usual gentle smile remained on her lips.

“Maybe soon,” Nathaniel chuckled. Turning around, he walked toward Elsie, “She wants to bake cookies with us. What do you think?”

Raising her brows, Elsie made a guess, “Is it because of the new book you bought her?”

“You can say so.”

Nathaniel reached for Elsie’s hand. She smiled before following him away from the corridor, heading back to the living room. Their footsteps were quiet, barely resounding in the air.

As per their conversation before, Nathaniel and Elsie carefully navigated their new start. He told her he wanted to bring her out for dates soon, to which she agreed wholeheartedly.

Sitting side by side on the couch, Nathaniel poured a cup of tea to Elsie, the one she brewed when he sent Lorianne to bed. She smilingly thanked him.

“Will you be busy next week?” Elsie asked after sipping on her black tea, her voice had traces of curiosity, “You were quite free this week after all.”

For the entire week, Nathaniel followed Elsie to send Lorianne to the kindergarten. He also returned to the apartment at least before seven in the evening—like an ordinary office worker instead of a CEO.

Understanding what Elsie meant, Nathaniel heaved a sigh. His eyes lingered briefly on his cup before looking back at her.

“Sadly, I’ll be busy. I’ll try to come home like usual, but I need to continue my work. Luckily, Fabian is there to represent me to the functions.”

“It’s fine, Niel. Lorrie will understand that her daddy is a busy man,” Elsie replied, a grin tugging on her lips, ”

This was also Nathaniel’s new routine and he loved it.

Whenever Nathaniel was done tucking Lorianne into bed, he would have a cup of tea while chatting with Elsie. Unwilling to bother her too much, he usually returned to his unit at ten.

During this quiet hour of the time when they spent catching up with each other, Nathaniel learned more about Elsie and Lorianne’s life in the past five years, including how she began building her fashion brand.

At the same time, Nathaniel also shared about his life.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you,” Elsie smiled sheepishly as a thought crossed her mind. Staring at Nathaniel, she said, “My parents will come here next month. They told me to ask about yours.”

Before, Nathaniel talked about greeting Elsie’s adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Winslow. He wanted to properly meet them, but the time was not in his favor.

Then, Elsie suggested they meet when Mr. and Mrs. Winslow come to Velondia for a visit. Nathaniel quickly agreed, also adding that if the Winslows were fine with it, he wanted his adoptive parents to join them.

Elsie promised to ask the Winslows, to which Nathaniel received a positive answer. Russell and Andrea also agreed to the meeting between their families.

Smiling at Elsie, Nathaniel said, “I’ll tell them. Let’s ask when they’ll be available, shall we?”

Elsie responded with a nod.

The night was quiet, but the silence was comforting.
