Chapter 265: A Hearty and Lovely Breakfast
The next morning, Lariette was stirred awake by the warm and buttery scent drifting in the air. Letting out a groan, she tossed and turned on the bed as drowsiness still clung to her.
But…
‘Why it smells more yummy?’
Rubbing her eyes, Lariette pushed the blanket aside before sitting up. Through her blurry gaze, she saw the morning rays slip lazily through the curtains, casting soft stripes of gold across the room.
The wall clock pointed to a quarter to eight. Being a morning person, she often woke up around this time even during the weekends.
‘Ah, right. Eddy…’
When the memory of last night resurfaced in Lariette’s mind, a quiet and inexplicable happiness fluttered through her heart. She also remembered the hearty and lovely breakfast he promised to prepare this morning.
‘I wanna see him. And what he makes.’
Sliding out of bed, Lariette hurried to the washroom, her locks tousling behind. Her bright smile was reflected in the vast mirror above the wash basin counter.
Last night felt like a dream, but it was her new reality.
Lariette knew she and Ruediger were no longer simply a fake couple in a contractual marriage. Following her acceptance of his confession, their relationship became real.
Still, she was aware that they were just on the beginning line. Whether their relationship bloomed more or not, neither of them had the answer yet.
Soon, a refreshed Lariette emerged from the washroom, the soles of her slippers lightly touching the floor as she headed out of the bedroom. Following the trail of delicious scent, she abruptly halted her steps upon seeing the dining table.
“Wow…”
The feast across the table was the most beautiful breakfast she had ever seen.
Fresh tulips and roses filled the crystal vase in the center, their hues vibrant and lovely. Around it, the sweet and savory meals had been served.
Heart-shaped little pancakes stacked high on two plates, dusted with powdered sugar. Puffing up with cheesy goodness were tiny heart omelets, alongside crispy golden hash browns.
Two small heart-shaped jars in the color pink stood beside a basket, lined with pink-and-white gingham wax paper. Golden, buttery soft biscuits, also in the shapes of hearts, tucked neatly inside the basket. Beside the basket was a plate of cut strawberries and green grapes.
“Amazed, huh?”
Lariette immediately glanced over her shoulder at the sound of the familiar voice, laced with laughter. Ruediger stood behind her while holding a tray of drinks, a grin tugging on his lips.
“Eddy! This is so cute! Seems like you used my heart-shaped pan collection, right?”
Ruediger nodded before laughter slipped out from his lips. A faint blush colored his cheeks as he said, “Forgive me. I’ve always wanted to do something corny like this, but I didn’t dare until today.”
Ruediger’s remarks elicited giggles from Lariette. She gently nudged his elbow, her brows arching with mischief flickering in her eyes, “You didn’t hold back, huh?”
“Yes, my lady,” Ruediger smiled sheepishly. He gestured at the tray with a tilt of his chin, “Ahem, I made you a special hot matcha.”
Lariette’s gaze wandered to the tray. She chuckled at the sight of the hot matcha in her favorite white cup with sakura prints. He dusted matcha powder on top, forming a heart, most likely from a stencil.
He really put much effort today.
Returning her eyes to Ruediger’s face, Lariette sensed warmth flooding her heart. She smiled seeing the evident blush coloring his cheeks, something she rarely witnessed until last night.
Lariette lifted one hand, gently placing her palm on Ruediger’s upper arm. His eyes fluttered slightly, seemingly a little surprised by the touch.
“Thank you, Eddy. I appreciate it, really.”
Ruediger felt his lips trembling as his heartbeat suddenly spiked. He laughed at himself, thinking he needed to stop acting like a high school boy whose crush reciprocated his affection.

“I’m glad you feel like that. Breakfast now, shall we? They won’t taste good once they’re cold.”
“Hehe, okay.”
Sitting across each other, Lariette and Ruediger sensed the evident shift in the ambiance around them. They also seemed to be able to see the floating pink bubbles in the air.
“Did you go to the florist, Eddy?” Lariette smiled seeing the vase of flowers. She grazed the tulip and rose petals with her finger, “They look so fresh.”
The sweet scent of roses mingled with the buttery smell of the pancakes. The petals were velvety under her fingertip.
“I did,” Ruediger admitted. He placed the matcha cup beside Lariette’s pancake plate, “I should’ve prepared flowers for you last night, but I didn’t.”
“You gave me a lovely and wholesome experience yesterday, Eddy. The studio visit, the meal at your favorite restaurant, the light show and the maze garden.”
Lariette lowered her hand from the flowers, reaching for Ruediger’s. The man was slightly stunned, then he enveloped their hands together. His gaze remained on her mellow countenance where a smile bloomed.
“Getting flowers too would be a nice touch, but it won’t change how I enjoyed our time yesterday. Hehe, especially the surprise confession.”
Lariette ended with a cheeky remark, earning chuckles from Ruediger whose relief washed over his heart. He pressed his thumb on the center of her palm when she squeezed his hand.
When he stirred awake at dawn, he thought everything was just a dream. He lay quietly on his bed as he recalled the memory of last night.
“What shall we do after breakfast, Lettie?” Ruediger asked after a brief silence, his voice low yet having traces of suppressed joy, “Do you have anything specific you wanna do?”
“Well,” Lariette tilted her head, wondering for a moment, “Oh! I wanna see your art for your new cover. Can I?”
Lariette still remembered what Ruediger and Conrad talked about yesterday. The crimson-haired man mentioned showing her the art before sending it to the sound engineer.
What did he draw this time? She couldn’t help but anticipate seeing it as soon as possible.
Ruediger nodded, his smile softening, “Of course. I’m happy to show it to you first. Let’s eat.”
“Okay~”
The autumn breeze chilled the morning air, but the warmth inside the apartment embraced them gently as their hearts resonated with one another.
