Chapter 279: I Thought He’d Be a Monk Forever
Elsie and Lorianne remained in Nathaniel’s apartment even after Michelle and Tristan left. Laughter still lingered in the corners of the rooms from the hearty gathering that had just ended.
Nathaniel carried the sleepy Lorianne in his arms while Elsie closed the door. They would sleep in his apartment tonight instead of returning to her unit.
“Good night, my dear,” Elsie gently kissed Lorianne’s face, she gently stroked the little one’s head, “Don’t forget to brush your teeth. Sleep well.”
“Night, Mommy…”
Nathaniel chuckled seeing how sleepy Lorianne was. He said, “I’ll tuck her in bed. Don’t clean up by yourself. I’ll help you.”
“Get her to bed first,” Elsie smiled. She patted Nathaniel’s back.
Tonight would be the second time Lorianne slept at Nathaniel’s apartment. Fortunately, she didn’t show any sign of restlessness during the first time the other day.
Nathaniel brought Lorianne to the bathroom. He gently squeezed her cheeks after lowering her down to the floor.
“Go to the toilet, wash your face and brush your teeth, okay? Then change into your pajamas.”
“Okay…”
Shaking her head, Lorianne rubbed her little face. Nathaniel turned around, leaving the entrance of the bathroom as his daughter disappeared inside. He picked one of the comfy pajamas from the closet.
Not long after, Lorianne lay on the bed while being surrounded by adorable plushies. Her tiny hand clutched a stuffy bunny. She mumbled softly, “I liked the apples… Daddy, can we make them again?”
Chuckles slipped from Nathaniel’s lips. He knew Lorianne referring to the mini apples coated with caramel. He noticed she ate quite a number of the tasty treats.
“We’ll do them again,” Nathaniel leaned down to kiss Lorianne’s forehead, brushing her bangs from her face, “Your mom and I are glad you had fun, my little princess.”
“Hehe~ I had fun.”
Nathaniel waited for a moment longer, watching Lorianne quickly drift to sleep. Her chest rose and fell slowly. Then, he quietly walked out of the room before closing the door.
Nathaniel was relieved because Lorianne had adapted well to her new life. Elsie said their daughter usually found it hard to sleep in a new environment, thus a slow transition period was needed.
Fortunately, everything went well.
Nathaniel found Elsie in the kitchen, still in her dress but her hair pulled into a messy bun. A soft tune played from her phone on the counter as she loaded dishes into the dishwasher.
Nathaniel stood quietly in the doorway, unable to stop from admiring Elsie. A smile tugged on his lips as he watched how naturally she moved here as if this was her home from the beginning.
“Elsie, I’ve told you to wait for me,” Nathaniel said while rolling up his sleeves, voice low and warm.
Elsie glanced behind her shoulder, smiling at Nathaniel, “It’s better to start cleaning as soon as possible. Lorrie has fallen asleep, yes?”
“Right after her head touched the pillow,” Nathaniel chuckled as he recalled the little one, “Oh, she said she wants to make the caramel apples again.”
Elsie let out a helpless sigh, followed by soft laughter, “She almost finished the entire plate.”
Nathaniel and Elsie worked together as they cleaned up the kitchen, dining room and living room. Tristan and Michelle had helped a little before leaving, including Ruediger and Lariette. But they still had much to do.
Once the areas were finally tidy, Nathaniel and Elsie settled on a couch. He stretched one arm over the backrest, pulling her close as she curled her legs beneath her.
Leaning her head on Nathaniel’s shoulder, Elsie sighed with a hint of a smile, “It was a good night. Such a small party, but meaningful.”
Nathaniel hummed, agreeing with Elsie. He reached for her hand, gently playing with her fingers, “You talked a lot with Lari. You’ve taken a liking to her, don’t you?”
“Hehe, I do,” Elsie chuckled. Tilting her chin slightly to look at Nathaniel, she said, “She’s such a lovely lady. She looks so well-matched with Rudy. Didn’t you see how his eyes sparkled when he looked at her?”
Nathaniel bit back from laughing and spilling Ruediger’s secrets. He still remembered the photos of a flower basket his friend sent him the other day. Ruediger bragged about getting it from Lariette who had just accepted his confession.

‘Rudy, that brat. I thought he’d be a monk forever.’
Nathaniel refrained from clicking his tongue. He had teased Ruediger about it when they were still in his home office earlier. Instead of acting awkwardly, his friend seemed to be so proud.
“I saw you two exchanging numbers,” Nathaniel thought back to the previous hour, “You should invite her out. A ladies’ outing. Sounds good, isn’t it?”
Elsie nodded, not denying Nathaniel. She and Lariette promised to have an outing together, most likely with Madeline along. As for when they hadn’t decided the time yet.
“I don’t have many friends here,” Elsie sighed, leaning closer toward Nathaniel. She slipped her fingers between his, interlocking them together, “It’d be great if I could go out with Lari and have fun together.”
Nathaniel hummed softly, agreeing with Elsie. Even though she wasn’t lonely or alone, he knew she needed some time for herself too, including going out with friends.
“Don’t forget my card when you go out. Spend as much as you want.”
Elsie burst out laughing, her heart tickled by Nathaniel’s remark. Looking at him, she covered her mouth, “Are you bragging about your wealth now, Mr. CEO?”
Putting on a haughty look, Nathaniel shrugged, “My lover is a CEO too, but I still want to pamper her.”
Elsie shook her head, helplessness washing over her heart. Indeed, Nathaniel loved to pamper her with everything he could get his hands on. It hadn’t changed even after the past five years of separation.
“It’s my turn to pamper you,” Elsie arched one of her brows, teasing Nathaniel, “As you’ve just said, I’m a CEO too. So, is there anything you want, my dear?”
Bringing Elsie’s hand to his lips, Nathaniel dropped a soft kiss on her knuckles. He leaned closer, whispering above her lips, “Your heart.”
Elsie barely giggled when Nathaniel planted his lips over hers. He cradled her cheek, his touch was ever so tender as he kissed her gently.
