Chapter 280: Unleash His Desire
Lariette and Ruediger’s drive home was smooth. The city was still alive as the weekend night began. Colorful neon lights flashed all over the city. The chilly night breeze did not stop the people from having fun.
Lariette kept talking about what she and Elsie had chatted about during the party. As Ruediger listened to her, chuckles occasionally slipped past his lips.
“Lettie, seems like you’ve gained a new friend,” Ruediger pointed out, a grin tugging at his lips, “You’ve exchanged contacts with Elsie, right?”
“Yes!” Lariette nodded, proudly declaring the fact. Her eyes sparkled with joy as she quickly added, “I gonna invite her for an outing, hopefully soon. I’ll ask Maddie if she wanna tag along too.”
Lariette couldn’t help but admire Elsie despite having only met the latter tonight. Humble, smart and charming.
Lariette had also witnessed the evident love between Elsie and Nathaniel as if the past five year of separation never happened.
Peeking at Ruediger’s side profile, a thought crossed Lariette’s mind. Would they ever be like Elsie and Nathaniel one day, so deeply in love and enamored with each other?
Their relationship had just begun, but Lariette had already anticipated a brighter future with Ruediger. The mere thought of it quickened her heartbeat.
Lariette pursed her lips, hesitating for a second before she finally asked, “Eddy, are you tired?”
Ruediger briefly looked at Lariette, his brows arching, “Why? Have somewhere else you wanna go?”
Lariette chuckled, “How about a night stroll at the rooftop garden? We were so busy this week, we haven’t gone there much.”
The time had hit half-past ten, not too early or too late. They could take a quick stroll before finally returning to their apartment.
Ruediger nodded, flashing a smile at Lariette, “I’d love that.”
After parking the truck, Ruediger and Lariette took the elevator to the rooftop. Soon, the doors opened with a soft chime, revealing the quiet garden bathed in soft, golden lights.
Hand-in-hand, Lariette and Ruediger stepped out of the elevator. The cool, crisp night air gently blew past them, bringing along the scent of jasmine and lavender from the garden beds.
“We haven’t had tea time here much,” Lariette exhaled a sigh, voicing her slight frustration, “I miss how leisurely summer break was.”
Ruediger’s soft chuckles rang beside Lariette. She tilted her chin, colliding her eyes into his. The familiar gentle smile curled his lips into a beautiful arc.
Lariette could imagine how hectic next week would be. Fortunately, the school held Sports Day in autumn when the temperature was cool instead of during the scorching hot summer.
Ruediger took his hand out of Lariette’s, finding a place on her shoulder before he gently pulled her closer. His smile deepened when she circled her arms around his waist as she hugged him from the side.
“You’ll be even busier with Sports Day next week,” Ruediger pointed out, “Don’t worry. The harvest festival will follow soon.”
“Haaa~ I can’t wait!”
Lariette and Ruediger walked along the path, lit by a trail of small lights. Around them, the grasses and leaves swayed gently in the breeze, alongside the velvety petals of flowers.
“Lettie, let’s sit over there.”
“Okay~”
Ruediger and Lariette approached the arch pointed by him, its iron frame entwined with ivy and blooms of roses. Strings of golden fairy lights cascaded from the arch, casting a dreamy shimmer across the ground, including the wrought-iron bench underneath.
Lariette nestled close to Ruediger as they sat on the bench, the passage of time seeming to pause around them. She smiled as she felt him rubbing tiny, comforting circles on her shoulder.
Lariette enjoyed the calm of the rooftop garden, but she also desired to listen to something. Since no one else was here, they wouldn’t be disturbing anyone.
Tilting her head up, Lariette grinned at Ruediger, “Eddy, can you sing that song again? Your confession song.”
Ruediger’s eyes widened slightly before delight took over, washing over his heart with pure joy. Lariette’s last remark elicited chuckles from his lips.
“You wanna hear a live version?” Ruediger arched his brows, teasing Lariette, “Can’t wait until its release?”

As discussed with Conrad, the cover song would be uploaded tomorrow at midnight. Lariette couldn’t wait to be the first commenter, amusing Ruediger.
Lariette shook her head. Laughing, she pushed Ruediger to stand, “Hurry! I’ll be your audience! Hehe, stand there and sing. Won’t you try charming me?”
“Hahaha! Of course! I won’t say no to charming you.”
Smiling in helplessness, Ruediger stood up from the bench, not before he pinched Lariette’s nose. He laughed when she shot him a glare.
Ruediger brushed his hand over his crimson locks as he faced Lariette on the bench. He placed both hands on his chest, then declared with a huge grin, “For my lady under the stars and flowers, I dedicate this song to her with all my heart.”
Lariette rolled her eyes, but her lips tugged into a smile. She straightened her posture while folding her hands together to perch on her lap. Her eyes zeroed in on Ruediger whose figure bathed under the warm, golden lights.
Then, he began to sing.
“I used to stay up all night🎶”
“Tryin’ to find my place🎶
“Chasin’ neon lights or lookin’ for some kind of trace🎶”
His voice, soft and warm, echoed gently into the night, wrapping around her like a comforting blanket. The upbeat yet heartfelt melody carried his emotion in every note.
Lariette’s gaze never strayed from Ruediger as he sang. At that particular moment, the rooftop garden became their own little universe and her heartbeat followed the rhyme of the song.
“Cause when we touch is when I really come alive🎶”
When the lingering final note faded, Ruediger lowered his face. He took a deep breath before he locked his gaze on Lariette, his lips curved into the familiar tender smile.
Lariette held her breath for a beat. The mellowness of the moment made her heart skip. A slight tremor spread from the depth of her heart as her eyes remained on him.
Ruediger tilted his head, grinning, “Why are you looking at me like that, Lettie?”
A dreamy haze clouded her gaze before clarity returned. Lariette blinked, then smiled playfully, “I wonder about something.”
Ruediger took two steps forward, his brow arched, “What is it? Mind to share?”
Lariette raised one hand. She began counting on her fingers as she spoke, “You’re an all-rounder. You’re handsome, good at cooking, fighting, charming everyone. So I wonder…”
Ruediger waited when Lariette paused. She blinked, her cheeks flushed red as she said something that almost leaped his heart out of his chest.
“Are you also a good kisser?”
Ruediger swallowed, never expecting the question from Lariette. Pursing his lips, he took more steps forward, his gaze assessing her reddened face.
“About that…”
Ruediger bent down, reaching for the backrest of the bench. Lariette didn’t look away as the man’s shadows fell on her.
He reached for her chin, brushing his thumb gently under his lower lip, ghosting shiver down her spine. An unreadable light glinted in his emerald eyes, the shine was reflected in her sapphire irises.
“Want to find out?”
The question, despite being spoken ever so softly, was laced by his suppressed desire. It took him only one, slight nod from her to unleash it.
