Chapter 292: Blub Blub Blubbbbb
[Elysian Heights, Elsie’s apartment.>
Nathaniel and Elsie decided to bring Lorianne somewhere on the weekend, hoping to spend more memorable family time together. The other day, they listed a few places before showing them to the little girl.
“Aquarium! Let’s go see Mr. Fish and his friends!”
Lorianne quickly picked the aquarium among the other places. Thus, Nathaniel and Elsie agreed with her choice. Unlike the different options, they were glad to list the aquarium that would hold a Halloween celebration.
Their family of three would head to the renowned aquarium tomorrow morning, but before that, they had an obstacle to be resolved.
Lorianne was buzzing with energy, her little body practically vibrated beneath the fluffy bunny-printed comforter. She kept rising and flopping dramatically onto her pillows for the past ten minutes.
Nathaniel, who sat on the edge of the bed, smiled in helplessness. He had difficulty getting Lorianne to sleep tonight, all because of her bursting excitement for tomorrow’s aquarium trip.
Elsie watched Lorianne tormenting Nathaniel from the bay window. She covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. It was funny seeing him patiently trying to tone down their daughter’s boundless energy.
Despite the late hour, Lorianne’s brown eyes sparkled with anticipation. The soft light from the adorable night lamp cast her animated expressions into full view.
“Daddy~” Lorianne whispered loudly, her eyes widening, “We gonna visit Mr. Octopus and his family too, right? What if they wave at me? Daddy, do you think they’ll wave?”
Nathaniel chuckled. Leaning forward, he tried to tuck the comforter over Lorianne’s again, “You should wave back to the octopuses if they do so. It’s a polite thing to do.”
Lorianne sat up straight, hijacking her dad’s attempt to get her to sleep.
“What if they try to talk to me in bubble language? Daddy, like this! Blub blub bluuub. I can’t understand them! Can you, Daddy?”
Nathaniel exhaled. He quickly racked his brain, finding ways to deal with the ever-energetic Lorianne.
“My little princess. It’s way past your bedtime. The fish and octopuses won’t be impressed if you’re too sleepy to meet them. Trust me, Lorrie. I’ve spoken to a few.”
“You have?” Lorianne gasped, her eyes round in disbelief, “Daddy! You spoke to Mr. Fish and Mr. Octopus? When? Did they say anything about me?”
Nathaniel nodded solemnly as if he was speaking the truth instead of making up stories. He refrained from sighing once he heard Elsie laughing from behind.
“You know, Lorrie,” Nathaniel leaned closer as if he wanted to share a secret with Lorianne, “I know a crab named Sebby. He said, you better be wide awake. Otherwise, he’ll swim the other way and won’t meet you at all.”
“Oh, no! Sebby can’t leave!” Lorianne shook her head repeatedly, horrified by her dad’s story, “No! I want to meet him!”
“So, time to sleep, my dear,” Nathaniel held Lorianne’s tiny shoulders, gently pushing her down, “Mr. Octopus, Mr. Fish, Sebby and their friends are already sleeping right now.”
“Daddy!” Lorianne grabbed Nathaniel’s arm, “One more question, please~ Do they sleep on the beds? Or do they just float and dream?”
Nathaniel inwardly facepalmed himself. Reaching for Lorianne’s face, he squeezed her chubby cheeks, “They float and dream of having good breakfast. Sleep now. We have a big day tomorrow.”
Lorianne shook her little head, swatting Nathaniel’s hands from her face. She let out a dramatic puff of air, “Daddy! I’ll tell the penguins you pinch my cheeks!”
Laughing, Nathaniel leaned down and kissed Lorianne’s forehead, “Yes, yes. Tell the penguins if you want. But now, sleep.”
“Haaa!”
Elsie rose to her feet, walking toward the bed. She held back from laughing too much despite how funny Nathaniel and Lorianne’s interaction was.
Sitting by Nathaniel’s side, Elsie reached over to stroke Lorianne’s hair, “You’ll have so much fun tomorrow, my dear. Sleep a little, okay? So tomorrow will come faster.”
“Okay~” Lorianne mumbled, leaning toward Elsie, her eyelids drooping slightly, “But, Mommy, only if the dolphins promise to be there.”
“They already are,” Nathaniel whispered, “In bubble language.”
“Blubbb” Lorianne replied, her little mouth puckering, “Blub blub blubbbb…”

Then, silent.
Nathaniel and Elsie exchanged a relief smile, and he gestured toward the door with a small nod. As she stood up from the bed, he gently smoothened the comforter over the sleeping Lorianne.
Nathaniel and Elsie tiptoed, leaving the bedroom as quietly as they could. Glancing behind their shoulders, they were relieved seeing Lorianne’s sleep undisturbed.
The little one, who kept babbling excitedly about the aquarium trip, had turned into a quiet angel. She hugged her favorite bunny plushie while mumbling in sleep.
Nathaniel closed the door as quietly as possible. The last thing he ever wanted to do was wake Lorianne up and face countless questions about the aquarium again.
Elsie stepped forward, faint laughter bubbling on her lips, “Niel, this is just the beginning. You better prep yourself for tomorrow.”
Understanding what Elsie meant, Nathaniel let out a sigh. He had heard stories of her bringing Lorianne to zoos, beaches, aquariums and other places. It was safe to say their daughter was a curious chatterbox.
Nathaniel reached for Elsie’s shoulders, pulling her closer, “Should I play aquarium quizzes online? Who knows, they might benefit me tomorrow.”
“Hehe, don’t be silly.”
Nathaniel chuckled when Elsie playfully smacked his chest. Walking away from Lorianne’s bedroom, they walked in silence. The clock softly ticked at the wall, signaling the steady motion of time.
“Have you thought about where to bring our parents?” Elsie asked Nathaniel after stepping inside the main bedroom, “Aside from family dinner, maybe we can go somewhere too.”
Nathaniel hummed softly, thinking of Russell and Andrea as well as the Winslow couple. They were scheduled to fly to Velondia next week. This would mark the first meeting between both families.
“I have a few ideas,” Nathaniel smiled, laced with worries, “I need to show I’m reliable to your parents, after all.”
Elsie chuckled. She hugged Nathaniel’s arm as they walked to the bed.
“Don’t worry. My parents like you. It’s obvious from their calls.”
Mr. and Mrs. Winslow had talked to Nathaniel a few times already. Even though awkwardness lingered, he admitted that the couple had shown a certain degree of liking to him.
“Hopefully so.”
