Chapter 293: A Cute Sea Witch
Saturday morning began with a crisp chill in the air of late autumn. The remaining golden leaves of October swirled along the sidewalks, glimmering under the golden sunlight.

Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne had an early breakfast. Then, they left the apartment around nine in the morning, wearing outfits in similar hues. The little one was especially adorable in her getup.

Lorianne wore a tea-length purple sea witch dress. She wore a pair of black leggings with silver tentacle prints. Her long, blond hair was tied into a bun and adorned with a sparkly black tiara-like hair clip.

From the moment she leaped out of the bed, Lorianne burst with energy and joy. Her round cheeks flushed red and her soft blond locks bounced as she walked with spring in every step.

Soon, the family of three arrived at their destination.

The main entrance of the aquarium was turned into a haunted reef. Jack-o-lanterns carved like octopuses glowed beside bubbling fountains while silken seaweed streamers swayed from the ceiling.

“Whoa! Look at that, Mommy! Ghost pumpkins!” Lorianne hollered from her booster seat, her eyes glued to the Halloween decoration.

“They have ghost fish there too, my dear,” Elsie replied with chuckles.

Nathaniel drove past the main entrance, heading to the basement parking. Once there, he let a valet park the car while a staff member greeted him, Elsie and Lorianne.

“VIP entrance is this way, Mr. Faulkner. I’ll bring you to your personal guide.”

Nathaniel and Elsie followed the staff member. Beside them, Lorianne’s eyes widened at the special side path lined with glowing fish paints. Soon, they met their personal guide.

“Welcome to the Spooky Sea VIP Tour!” the female guide in a pirate outfit greeted the family cheerily, “I’m Captain Liza, your guide today. You three look like the perfect crew. Ready to dive in?”

“Aye aye, Captain! I’m ready!” Lorianne shouted, her face beaming. She smiled blushingly when Liza complimented her sea witch dress.

Nathaniel and Elsie exchanged a smile. When he booked the VIP Tour package, he specified getting a guide who was friendly with children.

Nathaniel hoped Lorianne would have fun, something Elsie easily agreed to. The latter quickly stopped him when he initially decided to rent the entire aquarium.

“Come! Our first stop is the Jellyfish Enchanted Lagoon! Are you excited, First Mate Lorrie?”

“Jellyfish?” Lorianne gasped, her mouth forming a round shape, “We can see jellyfish? Yayy!”

Liza led the family of three to Jellyfish Enchanted Lagoon, a breathtaking room enclosed by walls of floor-to-ceiling glass. The chamber shimmered with iridescent jellyfish. Visitors scattered in the room, admiring the sea creatures.

The air was cool. The light changed with the glow of soft blues, purples and pinks. Moon jellies drifted slowly in the water, resembling delicate ghosts.

“It feels like a dream,” Elsie whispered, eyes wide in wonder.

Lorianne took a few cautious steps forward, followed by Liza. Her small face lit up in awe as she looked up to see hundreds of jellyfish floating above.

Liza crouched beside Lorianne, handing her a small, child-safe flashlight. If switched on, it projected glowing sea creature silhouettes onto the wall.

“First Mate Lorrie, wanna summon ghost fish on the wall?”

Lorianne giggled. She waved the flashlight, casting luminous images of sea dragons, batfish and penguins across the walls.

“Mommy, Daddy, look! They’re swimming with the jellyfish!”

Nathaniel knelt beside Lorianne. He captured the moment on his phone as the little one danced in circles with the lights.

Laughing, Nathaniel said, “You’re part of the jellyfish dance now.”

“Are they magic, Daddy?” Lorianne asked in a whisper, her eyes round.

“The most magical creatures in the sea,” Elsie replied. She brushed Lorianne’s head gently, “Don’t you think so? They glow so prettily in the dark.”

“Hehehe~ Yes!”

Liza explained about the jellyfish to Lorianne, doing her best to make a young child understand. Nathaniel and Elsie played along when the guide involved them in activities.

Later, Liza led the family of three to a quiet corner with a curved bench. Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne sat together as they watched the display, mesmerized by the hypnotic pulse of the jellyfish.

At the same time, Liza shared a gentle Halloween tale, piquing Lorianne’s interest. The story was about jelly spirits. The more kindness they sensed, the brighter they glowed.

“Will they glow much more brighter if I give them candies?”

The three adults laughed once they heard the child’s question.

From the luminous lagoon of jellyfish, Liza brought the family to venture into the thrilling world of the Shark Tunnel, joining other visitors.

Massive sharks of different species glided in the curved glass tunnel. The dim and mood lighting cast dramatic shadows of sleek fins and flashing sharp teeth.

Lorianne clung to Nathaniel’s side as the first sand tiger shark passed overhead. She froze as she watched it parted its jaw to reveal rows of sharp, jagged teeth.

“Daddy! The shark smiles at me!” Lorianne said, half excited and half nervous.

“That’s Bill,” Liza grinned, “He’s just getting ready for his favorite part of the day! Halloween snack time!”

“They look like dragons!” Lorianne looked from Nathaniel and Elsie to Liza, “Underwater dragons!”

Nathaniel chuckled. Bending slightly, he patted Lorianne’s head, “Good thing they don’t breathe fire. Seems like they can be guardians for a sea witch like you, right?”

“Hehehe~ Guardian dragons!”

Lorianne tailed after Liza as she eagerly listened to the tour guide’s explanation. Then, Liza brought the family to a seating area. There, other staff members handed special shark-themed goodie bags to the kids.

“I got gummy sharks, a necklace with a shark tooth and a shark coloring book~”

Lorianne happily showed the items inside her goodie bag to Elsie and Nathaniel. She also declared to color the book before bedtime tonight.

“That’s our fellow pirates, First Mate Lorrie!” Liza pointed toward the glass, “He’ll feed the shark with his comrade.”

“Oh!”

Lorianne’s attention quickly shifted from the goodie bag to the thick glass. A diver in a zombie pirate costume swan into the tank. He waved at the children, eliciting laughter.

“Mommy, Daddy, a pirate!” Lorianne squealed.

“It’s a zombie pirate,” Nathaniel laughed. He picked Lorianne up, letting her sit on his shoulders, “You can see him clearly, right?”

“Yes!”

Lorianne, Nathaniel and Elsie watched as the feeding session began. From a small overhead speaker, a guide narrated as two divers used long poles to feed the sharks with chunks of fish.

“As you can see, they’re trained not to compete or fight. We taught them to eat gently through techniques. One of them is target feeding.”

Everyone went silent, only a few exchanged hushed whispers. They were entranced by the sight of a large nurse shark gently taking food from the diver’s pole.

“Some species of sharks are naturally less aggressive eaters. For example, these nurse sharks.”

Nathaniel glanced at Lorianne who was comfortable sitting on his shoulders. He grinned, “Did you see that, Lorrie? They’re not that scary.”

Lorianne nodded seriously like a chick pecking grains, “I think they’re polite sharks, Daddy.”

Elsie chimed in, her voice gentle, “Our dear Lorrie is a polite girl. You can be friends with the sharks.”

“Hehehe~ Of course!”

The aquarium was so wonderful!

What else she could see?
