Chapter 300: Their Sincere Acceptance
The executive vans moved smoothly along the winding room, the last rays of sunlight spilling golden lines across the windows. They were getting closer to where the Winslow couple’s private residence was.
The villa lay just outside the city, nestled in the serene foothills and shrouded by a cluster of trees. Even though the Winslows lived primarily in Norvonna, the villa remained maintained year-round.
Throughout the ride, Lorianne sat with Mr. and Mrs. Winslow. She chattily recounted her days in the kindergarten to her grandparents. She talked about her friends, her teachers and also which meals they got daily.
“I made a sea witch mask yesterday~ Grandpa, Grandma, you saw my photos at the aquarium, right, right?”
“I like the honey butter chicken the most. Oh! We got caramel pudding today!”
“Grandma, you know what? Becca said her grandma made her a crochet cardigan. Can you do that too?”
Nathaniel and Elsie sat across Lorianne and the Winslows, watching their interaction. He already knew how close the little one was with her maternal grandparents, but seeing it up close was different.
Indeed. The Winslows treated Elsie and Lorianne like their own daughter and grandchild. Seeing them reminded Nathaniel of his own adoptive parents who treated him similarly.
“Oh! We’re here!”
Lorianne exclaimed once she saw a massive wrought-iron gate guarding the compound. The grand silhouette of the villa emerged.
Nathaniel quietly cast his gaze to the residence. Its size was similar to his villa in Seacastle. From the outside, the building and the garden were perfectly manicured and taken care of.
Then, Nathaniel saw an elderly lady. Adorning a plaid cardigan, she stood waiting at the entrance. A bright, kind smile curved on her face.
“That’s Alma,” Elsie whispered to Nathaniel, “Do you remember her?”
Nathaniel nodded slightly, recalling Alma was the housekeeper, a kind woman in her sixties. She had been taking care of this villa for over two decades, assisted by a small number of subordinates.
“Welcome home! I’m glad to meet everyone again. How was your flight, Master and Madam?”
Alma greeted them warmly once they emerged from the van. She chuckled when Lorianne rushed to hug her. Elsie took this chance to introduce Nathaniel to the housekeeper.
“What a handsome lad, Lady Elsie,” Alma assessed Nathaniel from head to toe, clearly pleased, “I have heard about you, Mr. Nathaniel. I’m happy to meet you today.”
“Hello, Alma. I feel the same. Lorrie has been boasting about your cooking. Seems like I can taste it tonight.”
Nathaniel smiled, glad because Alma wasn’t too formal with him despite meeting each other for the first time today. His remarks made the elderly lady laugh.
“Hahaha! You’re in luck, Mr. Nathaniel. Let’s head inside, shall we? My stew will be ready soon. Master and Madam, do you want to take a bath and rest first?”
The Winslow couple exchanged a smile before Mr. Winslow replied, “Both sound tempting, but we’ll just change before dinner.”
Alma simply nodded. Then, she guided them all into the villa while the bodyguards unloaded the suitcases. They would bring everything in soon.
The interior was bathed in warm light. Nathaniel subtly glanced at the cream-colored walls. The polished wood flooring and high ceilings gave the space a timeless grace.
While waiting for the Winslows to change into comfortable outfits, Elsie showed Nathaniel the first floor. Lorianne, who happily tagged along, couldn’t help but tell him about the areas she liked.
“Daddy, I used to hide here! Grandpa couldn’t find me, hehe~”
“Oh… I spilled my last strawberry juice here… It was a sad, sad day.”
“Daddy! Daddy! I can climb this tall desk! Wanna see?”
Nathaniel was unsure what he should feel the more he listened to Lorianne’s story. He smiled weakly at Elsie who held back from bursting into laughter.
After fifteen minutes, Mr. and Mrs. Winslow reappeared. They went to the dining room, where the scent of rosemary, baked bread and stew came from.
In the dining room, a long oak table stretched beneath a glass chandelier. Alma had outdone herself in preparing a hearty welcome dinner.

Plates of roasted chicken with herbs, glazed carrots, garlic mashed potatoes, fresh salad and pear tart were served on the table. Warm spiced apple cider and rosemary citrus tea accompanied the dishes.
Nathaniel sat beside Elsie, across from Mrs. Winslow and Lorianne. Mr. Winslow settled at the head of the table. The sound of cutlery clinking echoed faintly under their conversation.
“Your parents will come tomorrow, won’t they?” Mrs. Winslow asked gently while letting Lorianne take two bites of roasted chicken from her plate, “When should we meet? This weekend?”
“Yes,” Nathaniel replied, his voice calm, “They’re looking forward to meeting you all. I’m thinking of hosting dinner the day after tomorrow, and have an outing this weekend, if you’re fine with it.”
Elsie smiled, looking from her mother to her father. Their expressions mellowed further than in the beginning, showing they warmed up to Nathaniel.
“An outing, you say?” Mr. Winslow paused from slicing his chicken. Raising his brows, he glanced at his wife, “What do you think, my dear?”
Mrs. Winslow chuckled, “I agree. I wonder where our future son-in-law will bring us.”
Nathaniel froze for a moment before the heat quickly emanated on his cheeks. Being called ‘future son-in-law’ by Mrs. Winslow on their first physical meeting made him nervous yet hopeful.
The way Nathaniel smiled sheepishly earned helpless laughter from Elsie. Mr. and Mrs. Winslow exchanged a meaningful look while Lorianne was too busy with her dinner.
“Ahem, it’s a ranch outside the city,” Nathaniel cleared his throat as he resumed speaking, “Elsie helped me look for suitable places that align with your interests.”
Mr. and Mrs. Winslow were generally active, similar to the Faulkner couple. After some thinking, Nathaniel and Elsie agreed to bring them to the ranch. Lorianne shrieked in delight upon finding out.
“Let’s do that,” Mr. Winslow smiled, “I heard Chairman Faulkner enjoys fishing. I like it as well. Maybe we can catch some fish and grill them for our meal.”
Mrs. Winslow said nothing, but the look on her face showed she agreed with her husband.
Nathaniel exhaled a sigh of relief. He was quite worried that the Winslows found the plan inappropriate for their families’ first meeting. Fortunately, they liked it.
Nathaniel glanced at Elsie. His smile deepened when she reached for his hand under the table, giving him a squeeze of reassurance.
Then, they continued chatting while having dinner. Nathaniel was less tense than before until Mr. Winslow invited him for a walk in the garden after dessert and a round of coffee.
