Chapter 36: Do You Have Any Regrets?
“Haa… what a night.”
Exhaling a sigh, Lariette leaned comfortably against the seat. Her eyes trailed the passing lights of the street lampposts outside.
Ruediger’s truck moved smoothly down the expressway, leaving Eldoria Heights. They were heading to Lumina Spring, his new residence after marrying Lariette this morning.
Chairman Delaney remained in Eldoria Heights. The elderly man would most likely stay the night there. Even if he insisted on returning home, the Elsher family’s driver could drive him back.
“Lettie.”
Lariette tore her eyes from the view outside the truck, looking at Ruediger’s side profile, backlit by the street lampposts. Despite the dimness, she could see a smile hanging on his lips.
“Do you regret what you did just now?”
Ruediger’s question earned an immediate reply from Lariette.
“No. I’ll never regret it.”
Ruediger let out a chuckle upon listening to Lariette’s remark. Glancing at her, his emerald eyes were tinged with amusement.
“Good. Don’t regret it, Lettie.”
What happened earlier might seem childish to other people but, Lariette had no regrets. This was better than biting her tongue and swallowing her dissatisfaction as usual.
The only regret Lariette had was not standing up to herself sooner. It took her almost ten years of enduring the Elsher family’s mistreatment before she had a change of heart.
Lariette couldn’t help but think Damien’s infidelity served as the catalyst of her rebellion, coupled with Samantha and Stephanie’s outlandish antics.
Ruediger was relieved to know Lariette enjoying the aftermath of the chaos she stirred during the Elsher family’s dinner. She shouldn’t feel bad for fighting back against their biases.
“Surely, it’ll be a night to remember,” uttered Ruediger, his words lacing with faint laughter, “That cheating scum will forever remember the night he almost lost his family jewel.”
“Hahaha! It’s so satisfying!”
Bursting out laughing, Lariette looked at Ruediger. Her chest trembled from the vibrations, shaking her shoulders in response.
“Hehe~ I’ve never seen him… looked as foolish as that… Haha!”
Lariette covered her mouth, trying to tone down her laughing but, her attempt failed. The funny look on Damien’s face gaping like a fish out of water due to his panic was so hilarious.
“I think they’re trying to smooth things over now,” said Lariette once her laughter faded, “They won’t ever want the Silveras to think badly of them.”
Lariette could imagine how frantic Stephanie and the rest were. The latter had always shown her best self to Matthias and his family, especially when Mrs. Silvera wasn’t really satisfied with her.
The madam of the Silvera family started looking down on Stephanie from the moment the latter was ousted as a fake heiress.
Stephanie shot herself in the foot by provoking Lariette tonight. She should use her brain wisely if she still wanted to play the victim in the future.
“I guess they’ll blow your phone up tomorrow at the very least,” claimed Ruediger. Arching his brows, he threw Lariette a knowing look before focusing back on his driving.
Acknowledging Ruediger’s remark, Lariette nodded, “I better silence my phone before that happens.”
Fishing her phone out of the handbag, Lariette quickly set up the Do Not Disturb mode. She only allowed Madeline, Chairman Delaney and Ruediger to call or text her if needed.
The other numbers, including from unknown callers, wouldn’t get to bother her at all.
Tapping one finger on the steering wheel, a thought crossed Ruediger’s mind, luring more amused chuckles out of his lips.

“If they come knocking on your door, I’ll handle them. Hopefully, they won’t do anything to embarrass themselves further.”
Elated, Lariette exclaimed happily, “It’s great to have a husband and bodyguard at one go! Okay, I’ll count on you, Eddy.”
Ruediger’s heart almost leaped out of his chest. The way Lariette easily spoke the word ‘husband’ and the joy in her tone made him giddy and fluffy on the inside.
Pursing his lips together, Ruediger reminded himself to stay calm. He wouldn’t get to survive the future cohabitating days if he could melt easily with just this.
Ruediger pretended to cough once. Without looking at Lariette, he said, “Don’t forget you have a private cook as well. Speaking of it, how about I prepare a lovely breakfast spread tomorrow?”
Lariette gasped, almost forgetting how much of a good cook Ruediger was. She quickly nodded, her face beaming under the passing orange lights.
“I’ll look forward to it! Hehe, but no need to cook so many dishes. We’re just two people. I don’t eat much for breakfast. By the way, my kitchen is well-stocked. Feel free to use anything.”
“Alright, I’ll prepare two things tomorrow. Just wait for them.”
Glancing at one another, Lariette and Ruediger exchanged laughter. The merry echoes of their giggles bounced off the small space in the truck.
Accompanied by the sweet floral fragrance from the backseat, the ambiance between the newlyweds was a comforting one.
Soon, Ruediger parked the truck in one of the parking spaces under Lariette’s apartment unit. She had already registered his identity and the vehicle’s details a few days back.
Lariette led Ruediger to the tenth floor. They brought along the bouquets of flowers sitting in the backseat, including the one she held during the photo sessions this morning.
The spacious hallway was brightly lit. They were the only ones walking down the corridor. Their footsteps rose and fell on the floor, conjuring a faint rhythm.
“Hehe, you look like a walking flower display. Don’t your hands hurt?”
Lariette mused as she looked at the vibrant show of tulips and roses held by Ruediger. The blooms and leaves covered almost half of the man’s figure.
Lariette had already taken some in her arms but, Ruediger carried most of the bouquets. She wondered how much they weighed once being held at the same time.
“A walking flower display?” Ruediger tilted his head, sounding pleased with the title, “That doesn’t sound so bad. A flower display surely looks beautiful and smells good.”
Lariette blinked, never expecting Ruediger to verbalize such a stance from the casual joke she made. Chuckles slipped out her lips, followed by the light in her sapphire eyes.
Without her realizing it, the man’s heart skipped a rhythm.
