Chapter 37: Her Cutesy and Lovely Abode
“Please make yourself at home, Eddy. I’ll go to bed first.”
Ruediger quietly recalled the last words Lariette told him before she disappeared into her bedroom about half an hour ago. A soft smile tinged his lips as he thought about them being under the same roof.
Lariette showed Ruediger around the apartment once they got inside. They placed the bouquets on the two-seater couch in the living room.
The colorful petals added more allure to the already lovely place.
Lariette looked sheepish throughout the time she showed the apartment to Ruediger, saying she knew how cutesy her place was. A bashful smile adorned her face when he praised her taste.
Then, Lariette left for her bedroom, looking ever so exhausted yet pleased. He wished her good night while silently hoping she would have a pleasant dream.
‘This apartment is really nice. Truly shows her liking.’
Standing in the middle of the living room, Ruediger swept his gaze around the place. He didn’t feel out of place being surrounded by the pastel colors and adorable decorations.
The walls were painted in colorful pastels. Some had cute prints of flowers and hearts while the others remained plain.
Strawberry-shaped vases, a tulip-shaped side table, two peach-colored shell bean bags, and a set of couches in pink were among the few things in the living room.
Ruediger’s interest was piqued once he saw a dart board hanging on the wall. He believed it was customized because the design reflected Lariette’s cutesy abode.
‘Well, Maddie said she’s skillful in dart games and archery. That trash should thank the heavens. She could easily aim for his ear or dick.’
Ruediger hoped he could play both games with Lariette soon in the future. He also thought she might have an interest in his hobbies.
Spinning on his heels, Ruediger headed to the kitchen. He had only seen the area for a short moment when Lariette showed him around the apartment just now.
‘She’s so cute.’
The kitchen walls were painted in the lightest shade of peach. Colorful tiles adorned a few areas on the walls.
The island and other pieces of furniture were white, making the pastel-colored equipment and appliances stand out pleasantly.
Pastel pink coffeemaker, light yellow toaster, lilac-colored microwave, two-door refrigerator in the color peach — and everything else caught his attention.
‘Oh… I haven’t checked the fridge.’
Lariette mentioned the kitchen was well-stocked. Ruediger already had something in mind when he told her about preparing breakfast tomorrow.
The meal wouldn’t be too elaborate but, surely lovely. Hopefully, she would love it.
Ruediger opened the fridge, checking every compartment before he did the same for the rest of the cabinets. A satisfied look beamed on his face.
This kitchen was as well-stocked as his back at his own abode. He believed he would have fun experimenting with the cuisine she might love.
Leaving the kitchen, Ruediger headed straight to his bedroom. He thanked Lariette earlier when he saw the closet had been filled with his outfits, to which she replied…
“Maddie suggested it. Your other belongings are in the other room. You can set up your home office there.”
Ruediger had seen the room. A few boxes of his possessions were tucked in a corner, including his monitors and other gadgets. He could just do it tomorrow.
Holding the doorknob of his new bedroom, Ruediger’s emerald eyes traced the door panel of Lariette’s chamber.
No lights were reflected at the tiny gap under the door. Most likely she had retired to bed.
Despite Lariette looking cheerful after leaving the chaos happening at the Elsher family’s residence, slight discomfort still nagged at the back of Ruediger’s mind.

What if she let herself overthink the situation?
What if she began to blame herself for being impulsive?
Lariette had been hoping to receive the familial and unconditional love from her family for ten years. Detaching herself completely from them, either physically or emotionally, wouldn’t be easy.
Still, Lariette had done a good job so far. Ruediger hoped to support her more in her journey to heal the wounds left in her heart.
“Good night, Lettie.”
Whispering those words ardently, Ruediger smiled before stepping inside the room, his shadow elongated on the floor. He closed the door with a soft thud.
A smile was drawn on his lips as Ruediger looked at the peachy pink walls of the bedroom. The navy blue wardrobe looked out of place. Seeing it lured chuckles out of his lips.
Madeline’s words from before resurfaced in Ruediger’s mind.
“Lari wanted to change everything in your new room. I barely persuaded her not to. She did buy a new closet before I could say no.”
According to Madeline, Lariette felt sorry for letting Ruediger stay in a room adorned with all the cute things possible. At the very least, she thought his private space should be decorated with manly taste.
Madeline put a stop before Lariette ended up getting an interior designer to work on the room. It took her a lot of convincing before the latter dropped the idea.
“I’ll be fine with a pink closet,” Ruediger chuckled, his emerald eyes focusing on the navy blue wardrobe, “It’ll be cute.”
Standing opposite the closet, Ruediger slowly undressed himself. The sound of fabric rustling echoed faintly in the room.
The bright lights basked over his toned figure, tracing the hard-earned muscles from his routine workout.
Ruediger pulled the tie securing his crimson waves together, letting his wavy locks fall below his shoulders. Looking downward, his emerald eyes were locked on a spot just above his pants line.
A line, albeit faint, left a jagged scar on Ruediger’s skin. He grazed his fingertip on the blemish, marking an unforgettable event in his mind despite it had been two decades.
Curling up his lips, Ruediger’s smile wasn’t reflected in his eyes. He couldn’t help but remember his conversation with Chairman Delaney today[01].
“Mr. Chairman, do you know about Lariette’s life before she started living in Moonville?”
“Are you talking about Amberwood? The village far in the north?”
Ruediger didn’t expose all his cards but, they were enough to lure Chairman Delaney to his side. He could tell the elderly man did so because he had his granddaughter’s good interest at heart.
“…oh.”
Being reminded of something, Ruediger reached for his smartphone. He tapped on the orange icon of the VibeTube app, followed by a few more tapping and swiping.
Ruediger scanned the new comments he received for a recently released video. His eyes lit up upon seeing the familiar account leaving a comment.
[SummerTulipBulb: Another beautiful cover from you! Thank you so much! 🌷 Hehe~ Such a cute coincidence. I got married today 💕 Can I think of this song as a gift from my fave singer?]
Ruediger’s heart swelled with delight upon reading the comment. He quickly typed a reply, his fingers slightly trembling from the mix of joy and nervousness.
[Mr. Dreamer: Congrats and happy marriage @SummerTulipBulb! I hope you and your husband will be blessed with boundless happiness. Sure! Please consider this cover as my gift]
Biting his lower lip, Ruediger’s eyes trailed to the closed door of his bedroom.
He couldn’t wait for her to read the reply.
