Chapter 41: A Scoundrel at the Door
“What’s he doing here? How did he get into this building?”
Ruediger cursed under his breath, his voice dangerously low. He quickly stood up, causing the chair to screech on the tiles.
“I don’t know…” Lariette shook her head, thinking of the possibilities, “Maybe… he sneaked inside?”
Lumina Spring’s security was generally good, but Lariette knew Damien might find a way in. Aside from sneaking in, he might steal a staff member’s access card or even bribe one.
Ding dong! Ding dong!
“LARIETTE! I know you’re inside! Open this damn door!”
Damien’s continuous angry shouts and ringing ruined the peaceful ambiance in the apartment. He also banged repeatedly on the door, sounding like he was trying to break it down.
‘Ah! This damn prick!’
Lariette inwardly cursed Damien with every name that existed under the sun. She hoped to have a tranquil morning after the previous night’s chaos but, this trash came to bother her instead.
He hadn’t learned any lesson!
Ruediger exhaled a sigh, trying to contain his irritation toward Damien. Ignoring the yelling and ringing, he gazed at Lariette, “What do you wanna do? Should I kick him out?”
Lariette bit her lower lip, visibly irked by Damien’s antics. Without hesitating, she said, “Let’s teach his sorry ass. Seems like he has already forgotten what I did to him last night.”
Ruediger’s lips curled into a smirk. He couldn’t help but feel too bad Lariette didn’t really aim the knife at Damien’s puny dick.
Gesturing to the entryway with a tilt of his chin, Ruediger asked, “Shall we meet the scoundrel first, milady?”
“Yes.”
Lariette hurriedly followed Ruediger out of the dining room. She stared at the intercom screen once he switched it on, showing an angry Damien huffing and puffing outside.
The camera was able to capture a large angle of view. Only Damien was presented in the wide hallway of the tenth floor.
“What do you wanna do, Lettie?” Ruediger tilted his head, thinking how unsightly Damien looked on the screen, “I can tell him to scram. Or, do you have another thing in mind?”
Ruediger wouldn’t ever let Damien try to harm Lariette. As long as she said it, he would kick the man out and make sure the trash wouldn’t return here.
“I don’t want him to ruin our morning. Tsk, I haven’t finished my breakfast yet.”
Lariette narrowed her eyes, displeased with the current situation. Even though she had several ways to teach Damien a lesson right now, she didn’t have the energy to do them.
The day had just begun. Lariette didn’t want to strain her emotions and gain a headache so early in the morning because of Damien.
“I’ll call the apartment manager. Let him handle this trash. We’ll just stay inside for now,” said Lariette after pondering for a while.
“Sure. I’ll mute the speaker first,” Ruediger nodded, easily agreeing with her choice.
Lariette headed to where the landline phone was placed as Ruediger muted the intercom speaker, silencing the rest of Damien’s blaring insults and shouts. Only the repeated pounding on the door remained.
The entire tenth floor only had three units. Lariette owned the one on the far right of the floor while another person occupied the left one. The middle unit had been vacant for quite some time already.
The units had quite a long distance between each other and the soundproofing between units and floors was decent.
Lariette wasn’t worry about Damien interrupting her neighbors but… all the shouting only got more annoying with every passing minute.
Tapping on one number, Lariette was instantly connected to the manager’s office. The retro-styled landline phone was in the color pink, aligning with her preferences.

Mr. Peter Hayes had been responsible for managing the Lumina Spring building from the first year of its running. Even though Lariette rarely contacted him, she knew how reliable the middle-aged man was.
“Good morning, Mr. Hayes. Someone’s at my front door. He threatens to break into my apartment.”
Lariette immediately told Mr. Hayes the reason behind her call before explaining it further. Ruediger quietly listened to her conversation, assuming a relaxed posture with both hands in his khaki pants pockets.
“Yes. He has been harassing me for the past two weeks. This is his first time appearing here though. I’m not sure how he sneaked in.”
“For the record, he’s a deranged ex of mine. I dumped his cheating ass and he was mad. He still bothers me even after I got married to my husband.”
“Please make sure he’s barred from entering this building. My husband and I feel uneasy with his actions. He might act dangerously next time.”
Lariette remained collected as she answered Mr. Hayes’ question, including giving a valid reason to stop Damien from tainting her name. She didn’t see the tiny smile on Ruediger’s lips because of one of her remarks.
At the end of the phone call, Lariette thanked Mr. Hayes for his swift actions.
“Mr. Hayes will come here,” said Lariette as she returned the phone to its receiver, “He has already sent two security guards here.”
“Oh? No wonder.”
Ruediger arched his brows. With a smirk lacing his lips, he pointed to the intercom screen. Lariette’s eyes followed to where he pointed, only to burst out laughing on the next second.
Two bulky security guards had appeared. One of them interrogated Damien while the other kept watch on the man’s movement.
Ruediger switched on the speaker to Lariette’s amusement. Both of them enjoyed listening to Damien’s conversation with the two guards.
“Haha… misters, I’m not here to cause trouble. I just… I just need to talk to my girlfriend. She’s sulking so… I come to see her.”
“The owner reported you to us,” said one of the guards, his expression stern, “Ms. Elsher doesn’t want you here. You didn’t receive any access from her. How did you get inside, sir?”
The blond man tried to talk his way out but, the guards wouldn’t ever entertain his nonsense.
Lariette and Ruediger continued watching the situation in the comfort of the apartment. They couldn’t help but think how pitifully funny Damien looked as he grew more panicked under the guards’ interrogation.
“Oh, that’s Mr. Hayes.”
A middle-aged man dressed in a tweed bomber jacket and a flat cap came from the direction of the elevator. He immediately rushed to the front of Lariette’s apartment.
“Good day, sir,” Mr. Hayes wore a diplomatic smile on his face as he greeted Damien, “I’m the manager here, my surname is Hayes. I’m sorry but, we require you to leave. You’ve caused a disturbance to our residents.”
“No, no! I haven’t disturbed anyone,” Damien quickly shook his head, denying Mr. Hayes’ claim, “I’m here just to meet my girlfriend. I need to talk to her.”
Despite smiling, Mr. Hayes remained firm, “Ms. Elsher doesn’t want you to bother her and her husband, sir. Please leave before I call the cops. I believe we can press charges on your illegal entry.”
Exasperated, Damien cursed out loud. As if he forgot the presence of the intimidating guards, he launched a tirade of insults at Mr. Hayes.
The ever smiling Mr. Hayes looked at the guards, ignoring Damien’s wrath. He threw a few simple words, “Drag him out.”
“Yes, sir!”
Lariette laughed harder once she saw Damien being dragged away from her front door. Despite his kicking and pulling, his strength was nothing compared to the guards’.
Ah~ What a good scene to watch.
