Chapter 45: The Celebratory Party
“Congratulations on getting married, Lari and Rudy!”
“Woohoo!”
Madeline’s merry exclamation was swiftly followed by a loud cheer from Tristan. Lariette and Ruediger burst out laughing while Nathaniel joined them clapping their hands.
The echoes of their giggles and applause further brightened the meticulously decorated private room of Suit & Tie. The small group gathered to celebrate Lariette and Ruediger’s marriage.
Madeline and her staff went all out to ensure tonight was memorable for both Lariette and Ruediger. The former didn’t forget to include the new bride’s favorite flowers.
The newlyweds couldn’t thank the lady and her team enough. They were so touched by the effort Madeline and her team exerted for this celebratory banquet.
Lariette also managed to thank Joshua personally. He was the staff who called Madeline once he recognized her as the victim of the accident before.
“Thank you, Maddie! This is excellent!”
“Yeah, thank you, Maddie. You guys have done so well.”
Lariette and Ruediger took turns hugging Madeline, conveying their gratitude. The strawberry blond lady returned her best friend and her cousin’s embraces.
“Hehe~ You two are the stars! I won’t be stingy for you two! Hurry! Sit on your thrones!”
Madeline’s remark earned laughter from everyone, including the usually quiet Nathaniel. All of them were in the mood for tonight’s party.
Ruediger and Lariette sat side by side on the carved regal chair in the gold color, completed with burgundy cushions. Once they were seated, Nathaniel poured some champagne for the newlyweds.
“Ruediger; Rudy here is my best friend,” said Nathaniel upon handing a glass to Lariette. A faint smile curved on his lips, “I assure you that he will make a fine husband, Miss Lariette.”
Helpless chuckles slipped out between Ruediger’s lips. He threw a look at Nathaniel, only to receive a knowing smile from the ebony-haired man.
The older man spoke as if they were bound in a true marriage instead of a contracted one.
Lariette took the tall and slim glass, nodding at Nathaniel.
“I believe so, Mr. Nathaniel. Well, he has promised to be a good househusband for me so, I’m content already. He charmed his way through my stomach.”
Lariette’s cheeky remarks gained laughter from Madeline and Tristan while Nathaniel simply smiled. Ruediger glanced at the brunette, his emerald eyes glinted softly.
If their relationship was better, he would surely squeeze her hand at least.
“Time to eat! Dig in, everyone!”
Madeline loudly announced after Lariette and Ruediger took a few sips of the champagne. Despite being a small party, the merriment in the ambiance rivaled a grand one.
The group enjoyed the scrumptious dishes prepared by Madeline’s skilled team of chefs. Their lively chatter blended with the gentle melodies played by the sound system.
The celebration was intimate yet, fulfilling for both Lariette and Ruediger. Being with their loved ones was more important than having a grand reception yet, lacking the blessings.
While savoring the dishes, sometimes Lariette glanced at Ruediger and Nathaniel. She was shocked when the crimson-haired man introduced the man in the black suit to her earlier.
“Lettie, this is Nathaniel, my best friend from Norvonna. Well, you can say he’s my boss too.”
Lariette had never expected the famed CEO of Faulkner Investment to be Ruediger’s best friend!
Fortunately, Lariette managed to control her surprise. She shook hands with Nathaniel while introducing herself back.
‘Maddie has never mentioned anything about them being friends. Perhaps, they wanna hide it. Well, I bet the Alvords and everyone else will be shocked once they find out.’

The thought crossed Lariette’s mind as she munched a tiny slice of the marinated beef. The juicy and tender steak had already been cut by Ruediger earlier for her convenience.
From Lariette’s observation, Nathaniel seemed to be a reserved type while Ruediger was quite chatty. Nevertheless, anyone who looked at them would notice how comfortable they were with each other.
Hah!
Knowing the Alvords were simply as treacherous as the Elsher family, Lariette could say with certainty how regretful they would be once they knew Ruediger was in a close friendship with Nathaniel.
Such a day would eventually arrive, right?
Would she get to witness it?
Most likely, such a day would be soon. After all, Matthias invited Nathaniel to his and Stephanie’s wedding to which the older man agreed.
Ruediger hadn’t mentioned anything much about it but, Lariette wondered about the chance of the two men showing their good friendship there.
“Don’t only drink the champagne.”
The alluring husky voice of a devilishly handsome crimson-haired man lured the daydreaming lady out of her trance.
Blinking, Lariette had just realized Ruediger placed a glass of mineral water next to her empty champagne glass. He lightly tapped his index finger on the table.
“Why? Are you afraid of me getting so drunk?” Lariette chuckled, acknowledging she felt a little tipsy from the alcohol, “Won’t you make me hangover soup tomorrow?”
Ruediger let out deep chuckles, his voice a low murmur under the soothing melodies. His emerald eyes were clear as they collided with Lariette’s hazy sapphire ones.
“Aren’t you lightweight? Waking up with a headache won’t feel good. Either way, I’ll prepare some hangover soup for you tomorrow.”
“Oh? Then, shouldn’t I drink more?”
Laughing at herself, Lariette reached for the glass of mineral water. As usual, she missed seeing the fond look in Ruediger’s eyes as he kept staring at her.
At the same time, the newlyweds were not aware of the other three pairs of eyes looking at them. Madeline and Tristan exchanged silly grins while Nathaniel arched his brows, seemingly delighted with the situation.
Seeing the newlyweds were on good terms despite the true nature of their marriage helped to put their minds at ease.
After having dinner, they played board games and chatted over light snacks and drinks until ten. Because both Lariette and Ruediger drank, Madeline instructed one of her staff to drive them back to Lumina Spring.
“See you again, Maddie. Thank you for tonight.”
“Come here anytime! Drag Rudy along.”
Lariette and Madeline exchanged another hug as the latter sent the newlyweds off to the entrance. Nathaniel and Tristan had just left, promising to meet again soon.
Ruediger smiled looking at the two ladies. Standing with one hand in his pants pocket, the cool night air helped to alleviate his lingering drunkenness. His crimson locks swayed in the breeze.
“We’ll come for free meals sometimes,” Ruediger patted Madeline’s back, a playful smile hanging on his lips, “We’ll rely on your generosity, Miss Made…”
“RUDY!”
The hollering echo of someone abruptly calling Ruediger caught the trio’s attention. Lariette looked in a direction, an unfamiliar man was reflected in her confused orbs.
A young man around her age stood not far from a sedan parked by the roadside. Striding forward, his countenance was grim.
“Who….”
Lariette stopped herself once she realized something was wrong with both Ruediger and Madeline.
The previous happy air around them changed into a chilly one. The smiles vanished from Ruediger and Madeline’s faces as their countenance darkened.
What was wrong?
Lariette glanced from Ruediger to Madeline before her eyes landed on the stranger.
Only now did she notice something familiar about him.
He…
“To what do I owe this honor of seeing you here, Vincent?”
Ruediger’s words, laced with frostiness, were thrown to the crimson-haired man. The latter’s emerald eyes stared pointedly at Ruediger.
“Why? Can’t I come and visit my elder brother, en?”
