Chapter 62: Committed to His Househusband’s Role
The next day, Lariette simply spent her time relaxing after making sure her suitcase was well-packed. Despite waking up with swollen eyes, she felt better after having a good night’s sleep.
Oh! Also because of the yummy breakfast Ruediger made this morning.
Lariette lay on the shell sofa bed facing the open door of the balcony. Her chest rose and fell steadily as she was in the relaxing mode. The cool breeze slipped inside the apartment.
A face beauty mask covered Lariette’s whole face, letting the essence soak into her skin. Two slices of chilled cucumber also were placed atop her eyes.
“Seems like someone’s having some self-spa time.”
Ruediger’s teasing voice rang from above. Lariette couldn’t see him because of the cucumber slices but, she could tell a smile was drawn on his lips.
The man stayed inside the room he converted into his home office right after breakfast. Without a doubt, she guessed he was busy working.
Ruediger had already taken yesterday off work. He applied for more days off for tomorrow and Friday because of the wedding.
“Want a mask too? I have plenty,” Lariette chuckled, almost tasting the essence near her lips, “I’ve seen your collection, Eddy. You’re quite a beauty enthusiast as well, don’t you?”
Ruediger’s amused laughter rolled out of his mouth. He understood what Lariette meant. Indeed, she saw his collection of beauty products a few days ago.
Aside from the basic things like the cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen; Ruediger had other items as well. He liked to keep himself well-groomed and hygienic.
“I’ll wear some tonight. Anyway, I’ll prepare lunch soon. Do you fancy anything?”
Lariette felt her tummy almost rumbled as soon as Ruediger asked about lunch. She still remembered the delicious tomato soup with cottage cheese from this morning, paired with grilled bread.
“Do we have leftovers from this morning? I don’t mind having that tomato soup again. Ah, let me reheat the soup and grill the bread. Aren’t you busy with work?”
Lariette noticed Ruediger had already vacuumed and mopped the apartment before she woke up this morning. She couldn’t help but think when did he start.
Even though the crimson-haired man was committed to his househusband’s role, she felt bad if it would interfere with his real job. Working remotely was still working.
Ruediger leaned on one leg, putting both hands in the pockets of his khaki. His emerald eyes were locked on Lariette’s face, obscured by the cucumber slices and the face mask.
“Doing them won’t take much time. I’ve completed the important tasks for now. Want me to add tofu chocolate mousse?”
Lariette gulped, recalling the delicious and creamy chocolate mousse Ruediger made two days ago. She was surprised to learn that one of the main ingredients was silken tofu, also how quick and easy to make it.
“Well, I won’t say no if you insist.”
Ruediger answered Lariette’s cheeky reply with more laughter. The merry sound rang in the living room. Spinning on his heels, he moved away from the sofa bed.
“I’ll prepare the mousse first. It still needs some time to set.”
“Okay~”
Ruediger glanced at Lariette one last time before disappearing inside the kitchen. He was glad to see she was in a better mood after venting out her heart last night.
But…
Despite Lariette’s mood seemingly improving, Ruediger couldn’t deny her feelings might be on a roller-coaster again once they arrived at the island the next morning.
Aside from having to interact with the Elsher family when necessary, Lariette most likely would be saddened by this particular thing.
‘Friday. It’ll be the day she officially turns twenty-six, but…’
Stephanie and Matthias’ wedding was held on the day of the bride’s birthday; 14th August. At the same time, it was also the date Lariette was born more than a decade ago.
Unfortunately, what Madeline told Ruediger before left a bad taste in his mouth.

“There’s no doubt, Rudy. They’ll forget Lari’s birthday again. Well, I know one shouldn’t overshadow the bride but, this really pisses me off.”
According to the invitation, a party would take place late at night tomorrow for the guests who wished to join. The celebration most likely would end around the witching hour past midnight.
The wedding ceremony was scheduled for three in the afternoon, followed by the reception after a two-hour gap. The birthday party’s attendees would have plenty of time to sleep and fight off their hungover.
‘Maybe we can have a small but nice celebration for Lettie. I’ll contact Grandpa later.’
Having decided on that, Ruediger focused on making the chocolate mousse. Once again he wore Lariette’s frilly pink apron over his clothes.
The lady was still enjoying her relaxation time, oblivious to the man’s plan. She quietly thought of the best spots on the island, intending to show him around the place.
‘Maybe we can have a picnic in the forest, or near the hidden cave. I think the guests won’t go near the secret beach. Oh, the ruins will be a good place to show him too.’
Lariette couldn’t wait to bring Ruediger for a tour of the island. Madeline had visited some of the areas and she loved them all.
Most guests would focus on the bride and groom but, Lariette wouldn’t bother herself with them. She planned to attend the ceremony and reception only.
Ring! Ring!
The sudden ringing of her phone startled Lariette awake from her trance. Pulling the cucumber slices away, she opened her eyes before reaching for the phone.
“Grandpa?”
Lariette quickly accepted the call once she saw it came from Chairman Delaney. She couldn’t help but wonder if her grandfather had found anything from her request.
“Grandpa, good morning,” Lariette greeted Chairman Delaney, her lips curling into a smile, “Did you just wake up?”
Propping herself up on one elbow, Lariette sat up on the sofa bed. She brought her legs off from the cushion, stretching them out to the front.
The cityscape was perfectly visible in her eyes. It was another bright summer day in Avaloria City.
Chairman Delaney’s laughter replied to Lariette’s teasing but, there was a slight edge to his tone.
“I just returned from the greenhouse. Well, I’ll cut to the chase, Lari. I learned something about your suspicions.”
Narrowing her eyes, Lariette tensed up. She bit her lower lip, wondering how far her guess would be.
