Chapter 63: He Has a Lot to Pack For the Trip
“Lari!”
A happy Madeline jumped from behind, hugging the shocked Lariette. Soft puffs of sand rose above their ankles. Ruediger looked at the two ladies, helplessness was imbued on his lips.
“Maddie! You surprised me!”
“Hahaha! Sorry! Sorry!”
Lariette quickly wiggled free from Madeline’s embrace, turning around to face her friend. The strawberry-blond lady in a white beach dress laughed upon seeing the former’s face.
Lariette and Ruediger had just arrived at the dock where Chairman Ruediger’s yacht was by a cab. They didn’t know that Madeline reached here before them because the lady said nothing.
“Everyone is happy. This old man feels it to the bones. Good, good.”
Chairman Delaney appeared, walking slowly while relying on the cane. The elderly man opted for a short-sleeved floral shirt and a pair of long white pants, complete with sunglasses on his nose bridge.
“Grandpa! Good morning!”
Exclaiming joyfully, Lariette hurriedly hugged Chairman Delaney. The elderly man chuckled, clearly happy with the affection shown by his granddaughter.
Ruediger and Madeline also approached Chairman Delaney. They quietly yet smilingly watched the grandfather and the granddaughter’s interactions.
“Good morning, my dear,” Chairman Delaney patted Lariette’s back, fondly looking at his treasured granddaughter before shifting his eyes to Ruediger, “Ready for some summer fun? You too, Eddy.”
“Hehe~ Yes!”
Lariette happily chirped while Ruediger was calmer with his response.
“I heard the island has many good spots. I can’t wait to see them.”
Lariette and Ruediger acted as if they were heading to Azure Bay—Chairman Delaney’s private island—for a summer retreat, not because of Stephanie and Matthias’ wedding.
“Lari knows all the good places there,” Chairman Delaney nodded with a smile, “You’ll have fun there. Maddie has been there a few times too.”
As if in sync, Madeline quickly replied, showing her approval.
“Yup! Exploring the island was so much fun! I’ll gladly do it again!”
“Anyway, shouldn’t we go now?” Lariette glanced at the white yacht docked nearby. She believed they were ready for the sail, “We need to get to the island first.”
“Haha, okay, okay. Let’s go!”
Lariette escorted Chairman Delaney to the yacht. Ruediger and Madeline followed from behind. All their suitcases had been handled by the staff.
The air was tinged with salty warmth as the group of four boarded the yacht. The early morning sun cast a golden glow across the blue, shimmering waters.
Despite being early, Lariette knew a few guests had arrived at Azure Bay. They might go there by their private helicopters or yachts, while some traveled with the vessels provided by the Elsher family at the chosen docks.
Most of the early guests were Stephanie’s friends, especially the ones at the bridal party. The others might arrive much later or even tomorrow, depending on everyone’s schedule.
“You youngsters go have fun. Let this old man rest here.”
Lariette chuckled when Chairman Delaney waved one of his hands, shooing them away to the deck gleaming under the dazzling sun. The elderly man lay on the reclined chair, seeking shelter under the extended roof.
“Hehe, we’ll go there.”
“Grandpa, don’t fall asleep.”
Lariette and Madeline gestured at Ruediger, telling the man to follow them. The breeze ruffled through their hair, also tousling their skirts.

The yacht had departed from the dock, gliding through the shimmering blue waters. The engine let out gentle hums, merging with the soothing echoes of the waves lapping against the hull.
“Do you need to meet them as soon as we arrive?”
Madeline threw the question to Lariette once they sat by the deck railing. Ruediger stood near them. His crimson locks were bright under the sun.
“We’ll meet at two later,” replied Lariette while wearing her sunglasses. Leaning against the railing bar, she said, “I’ll just follow Grandpa. They won’t act out as much if he’s there.”
Lariette learned that Samantha and Stephanie were irritated when they heard she would stay at Chairman Delaney’s private villa. They wanted to force her to stick with the original plan but, Lariette wouldn’t budge.
Limiting her contact with the Elsher family during her stay on the island was the best option. Chairman Delaney, Ruediger and Madeline also agreed with her choice.
“Yeah. You don’t have to cater much to their demands, Lari,” Madeline nodded. Tilting her chin up, she stared at the vast blue sky, “I won’t attend if you’re not there. My mom doesn’t care either way.”
Madeline’s mother, Felicia was the reicipient of the invitation. Unfortunately, she was not in the country during the wedding.
Felicia had told Madeline that she didn’t need to go to the wedding if she didn’t want to. The middle-aged woman knew about her daughter’s bad relationship with Stephanie.
Madeline insisted she was fine. She accepted the invitation on Felicia’s behalf because she wanted to accompany Lariette, not to celebrate Stephanie’s wedding.
Lariette turned her head toward Ruediger, suddenly was reminded of something. Tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear, she asked the man.
“Eddy, your friend Mr. Nathaniel won’t be there until tomorrow, isn’t it?”
Ruediger tore his eyes away from the glimmering ocean, looking back at Lariette. Her sapphire blue eyes were concealed behind the sunglasses.
To him, the hue of her eyes was more vibrant and lively than the ocean’s.
Curling his lips into a smirk, Ruediger answered with a hint of mystery, “Yes, Nate will be there tomorrow. Well, he has a lot to pack before coming.”
Lariette blinked, sensing something playful from the way Ruediger worded his reponse.
“A lot to pack? Wouldn’t he just stay for the wedding?” asked Lariette curiously.
Some guests tended to bring even the gaudy things for their stay at the island but, Lariette doubted Nathaniel was such a person. She had just met him once but, the young CEO didn’t strike her as someone demanding and outrageous.
Ruediger answered no more. He simply flashed a smile at Lariette before returning his emerald eyes to the ocean.
The faint image of the private island became clearer with the passing minutes. The yacht would reach it soon.
Seeing that Ruediger wouldn’t answer her curiosity anymore, Lariette shrugged. She also looked at the island, eager to step on its white sandy beach and feel its fresh yet salty breeze.
