Chapter 64: I Am Indeed Her Husband, What About It?
The lush greenery and sapphire-blue waters greeted Lariette and Madeline as they disembarked from the yacht. The warm, salty breeze tugged at their hair, making the ladies reach up to smooth the stray locks.
The time was still early, barely reaching ten o’clock.
Lariette looked around the dock. Aside from the yacht belonging to Chairman Delaney, she also saw a few more. Most likely they belonged to the guests who had just arrived, or they were tourists.
The island didn’t stop receiving tourists even when Stephanie’s grand wedding was held.
Lariette spotted some familiar yet unwelcomed faces—Stephanie’s clique members. Fortunately, her grandfather’s yacht was docked quite far from them. She didn’t want to bother with fake pleasantries if they approached her.
“Over there. Our vans, I guess.”
Madeline’s voice caught Lariette’s attention. She followed to where her friend’s eyes were, seeing two executive vans with the emblem of the Delaney family nearby.
Three staff were busy relocating their suitcases from the yacht into one of the vans. All of them would be transferred to Chairman Delaney’s private villa.
“Grandpa and Eddy are still inside,” Lariette glanced at the yacht with one hand on her hip, “I wonder what they’re talking about.”
Chairman Delaney told Lariette and Madeline to go down to the dock first. The two ladies exchanged a look but, neither of them asked the old man why.
“I didn’t expect to see how well they get along with. As if they’re best buddies.”
Madeline chuckled, amused by her memories of seeing Chairman Delaney and Ruediger acting all so friendly with one another.
“Indeed, they are,” Lariette pretended to sigh. A playful smile was curled on her lips, “Imagine my surprise the first time Grandpa asked Eddy for a game of chess. You know how my grandpa is.”
Madeline nodded, understanding what Lariette meant. Mischief flickered in her blue eyes, “Damien, your boyfriend of two years never got to play with your grandpa. He’d faint in anger if he knew.”
“He definitely will. Well, he won’t be here anymore. He better behave when working at the branch.”
Madeline snickered, liking the thought of the trashy Damien’s suffering. She was aware that the cheating scum would be ousted to Chile so soon.
The high and mighty son of Chairman Schuman was forced to be exiled and demoted from his current role. Damien had to start from the bottom once again. This change would shatter his massive ego.
“Lariette!”
Frowning, both Lariette and Madeline turned to look on the other side. They saw a little group of young ladies in impeccable beach dresses walking toward them.
“Urgh… Those fake bitches.”
Lariette’s lips twitched once she heard Madeline cursing under her breath. She felt the same way as her friend.
Those ladies were among Stephanie’s ass-kissers. A few of them were in the bridal party while the others only attended as normal guests. Lariette also saw Amber among them.
“What a surprise to see you here! We thought you wouldn’t come!”
The woman who greeted Lariette earlier was Fridah. Tossing her blonde hair over the shoulder, she smiled brightly at the brunette.
Lariette kept her expression calm but, coldness glinting in her sapphire eyes, “You see me now, right? Wow, congrats! Your eyes still function well.”
Madeline snorted. She grinned openly at Fridah and the other ladies who exchanged suspicious glances among them.
“Look at these fakers faking their enthusiasm,” Madeline arched her brows, holding back nothing as she taunted the ladies, “How funny.”
“Madeline!”
Amber yelled, irritated by Madeline’s humiliating remark. She quickly came to Fridah’s defense, tossing the next questions to Lariette.
“We just wondered about it. Anyway, was the redhead I saw the other day your new husband? I heard you got married to someone from the Alvord. That guy was him, right?”

Amber hadn’t forgotten the day she bumped into Lariette and Ruediger weeks ago[01]. She convinced herself that the man was a gigolo hired by Lariette.
Turned out, she was damn wrong!
That man was the outcast of the Alvord family!
“He is…”
“I am indeed her husband. What about it?”
Amber, Fridah and the others flinched upon hearing the unfamiliar male’s voice ringing from above. Looking up to the yacht, they were surprised to look at a tall crimson-haired man by Chairman Delaney’s side.
Chairman Delaney and Ruediger had just walked down the stairs connecting the yacht and the dock when they saw Fridah and her gang taunting Lariette and Madeline.
Ruediger seethed from the inside. He also sensed the same feelings from the elderly man. Without thinking further, he announced his presence by speaking, his voice unyielding.
“T-that… we didn’t mean anything…”
Amber stuttered, surprised to see both Ruediger and Chairman Delaney. Fridah and the other ladies were also frozen on the spot. Their focus all went to the tall, imposing man beside Chairman Delaney.
This was Lariette’s husband?
Ruediger and Chairman Delaney finally stepped on the dock. While the elderly man paid no heed to the ladies, the crimson-haired man’s emerald eyes were locked on them.
For some reason, the color of his hair seemed to vividly ignite fire in his eyes.
“Do you have a problem about us being married?”
Fridah, Amber and the other ladies didn’t dare to utter even the slightest sound. They unconsciously backed away, almost huddling with each other.
Ruediger’s sharp gaze was akin to a blade, penetrating through their shaken exteriors. A storm of intensity simmered beneath his eyes, spelling how protective he was for Lariette.
“No-nothing… We don’t have any problem with you…” Fridah finally forced those words out of her mouth. She painstakingly carved a fake smile on her face, “We’re just surprised. After all… Lariette was with Damien just weeks ago.”
Ruediger slowly swept his gaze at the group of ladies, carrying a quiet warning. He parted his lips again. The slight, almost indiscernible rumble in his voice signaled he wouldn’t tolerate them disrespecting Lariette.
“My wife doesn’t need that scum. Or, do you prefer to have cheating trash as your partners?”
Fridah, Amber and the other ladies fidgeted under Ruediger’s commanding presence. They barely shook their heads before mumbling they had to go now.
Soon, their figures hurried to the other side of the beach.
Madeline laughed out loud, deliberately wanting the shameless women to hear her.
“Ha! That’s what you get for running your mouths off!”
With an amused smile on her lips, Lariette glanced at Ruediger’s side profile before shifting her eyes to Chairman Delaney. The smug look on her grandfather’s face tickled her heart.
“Seems like you enjoyed what happened just now, Grandpa. Amazed by your new grandson-in-law?”
“Hahaha! Yes! I didn’t need to say anything! This brat handled it well.”
Lariette question earned laughter from Chairman Delaney. At the same time, Ruediger and Madeline looked at them with mirth in their eyes.
“I’m honored if you two think so,” Ruediger let out helpless laughter. The frostiness on his face earlier melted, showing warmth to Lariette, “Well, I didn’t expect them to act like mean girls in high school.”
Despite already meeting Stephanie and Amber, Ruediger still couldn’t wrap his head around the ladies and their cliques’ pettiness.
Once again Madeline laughed out loud, entertained by Ruediger’s remark. Crossing arms on her chest, she scoffed, “They might be older now but, they’ve never grown up. Just let them be in their own bubble.”
Lariette nodded, agreeing with Madeline. She gestured at the vans, “Let’s go to the villa now. It’s getting hotter.”
“Oh! Let’s!”
Lariette, Chairman Delaney, Ruediger and Madeline headed to the vans. None of them noticed their movements were still observed by Amber, Fridah and the others from afar.
