Chapter 75: Here Comes the Troublesome Fellow
The bliss she felt from the midnight’s surprise enveloped Lariette’s heart in a warm and comforting feeling. She drifted into a slumber, sleeping soundly until the next morning.
The happiness from being surrounded by the few people who cared for her overtook her worries about what might happen later during the wedding.
Without Lariette realizing it, Ruediger woke up when the soft hues of sunrise began painting the sky. He changed into a set of tracksuits before heading out, intending to go for a run.
‘Seems like she’s still sleeping.’
Ruediger glanced at the closed door of the inner room as he raked his fingers through his wavy crimson locks. With a few neat movements, he tied his hair into a messy bun.
Strapping his phone to his right arm, Ruediger grabbed the pair of running shoes. He didn’t forget to lock the door, afraid of any deceitful person coming when Lariette was still sleeping.
The surveillance cameras were still running yet, Ruediger didn’t want to take any chances. It was better to prevent it from happening instead of leaving it to fate.
Soon, Ruediger began jogging toward the hotel. He had already informed Nathaniel he would drop by during the morning run.
Shades of pink and gold painted the canvas of the sunrise sky as Ruediger jogged along the tranquil shoreline. He was a lone figure at the beach at this early hour.
The familiar rhythmic sounds of waves accompanied his steady breath as the cool breeze ruffled through his locks, bringing along the faint scent of salt.
‘I only see the staff.’
As Ruediger approached the shoreline near the hotel, he slowed down before changing to walking. Wiping the sweat on his forehead with the back of his hand, his eyes carefully assessing the view within the vicinity of the hotel.
The hotel staff, in different uniforms which showed their respective roles and ranks, were busy around the hotel.
A few groups cleaned the surrounding areas, the others were seen coming and going to the glass hall standing alone, facing the beach while more staff handled other tasks.
Ruediger didn’t know nor care when Stephanie’s birthday party ended. He just assumed most of the guests partied till late until they were wasted.
The ceremony wouldn’t start until three in the afternoon and the reception took place at five. The guests most likely were able to overcome their hangovers before both events.
Tapping on the smartwatch around his wrist, Ruediger dialed Nathaniel’s number. He put an earbud inside his right ear as he waited for the call to go through.
“Hello.”
Nathaniel’s voice, slightly gruffier than usual, rang from the end of the line. Ruediger chuckled, knowing that his friend most probably had just woken up.
“I’ll go to your room now. Tell the receptionist about me.”
Ruediger predicted he wouldn’t be granted access to the floors where the wedding guests resided. The security was tightened more because of these wealthy folks.
Nathaniel let out a yawn, still sleepy before replying, ” I’ll just send Tristan down. That lad is already fully awake.”
“That’s great.”
Ending the call, Ruediger moved away from the shoreline, leaving a trail of footsteps on the sand. He entered the quiet lobby where only a few staff were there.
“Mr. Rudy! Here!”
Ruediger chuckled once he heard the familiar voice of Tristan, sounding as energetic as ever. The young man’s cheery holler echoed quite loudly in the quiet, spacious lobby.
Tristan was still in his pajamas. The young man quickly led Ruediger to the elevator after sharing a few greetings.
“Will I get to meet your wife again later?”
Tristan’s eyes sparkled with anticipation, earning a playful smack at the back by Ruediger. The young man had already met Lariette during the party held by Madeline last weekend.
“You’ll accompany Nate to both the ceremony and reception, won’t you? You’ll get to meet Lariette there.”

Ruediger heard from Lariette that only close relatives and friends would get to attend the ceremony. He was confused when Nathaniel said he was invited to both.
Nathaniel came under the Silvera family’s invitation. Perhaps, Chairman Silvera wanted to have the enigmatic man’s presence for his son’s wedding.
Nathaniel rarely attended socializing events, even the ones hosted by close partners of Faulkner Investment. He usually sent Fabian, his second in-charge.
No one knew the aloof CEO of Faulkner Investment belatedly agreeing to the invite because of his longtime friend, Ruediger.
Nathaniel wouldn’t want to miss a show that might occur, courtesy of his friend and the forsaken heiress of the Elsher family.
“Haha… I’ll break many ladies’ hearts once they see me as Mr. Nate’s partner,” Tristan laughed awkwardly, thinking of Nathaniel’s many admirers, “More will flock to him soon.”
Ruediger shook his head in helplessness, his damp crimson bangs slightly clung to his forehead. He understood what Tristan meant.
Now that Matthias Silvera would be a married man, most likely his admirers would shift their attention to Nathaniel. The other candidate was Declan, Lariette’s eldest brother.
As how Matthias still had a long line of wooers even when he was engaged to Stephanie, the same happened to Declan despite already having a steady girlfriend, Celina.
“Cheer up, kid.”
Ruediger could only offer that short sentence of encouragement, earning a weak smile from Tristan.
Eventually, the two men arrived at the topmost floor where Nathaniel resided in a suite. The latter requested to stay with Tristan instead of having the boy stay in a room far from him.
“Mr. Nate, Mr. Rudy’s here.”
Tristan happily announced Ruediger’s arrival to Nathaniel. The ebony-haired man was still in his pajamas, lounging on the plush couch in the seating area.
Nathaniel’s face still carried a trace of drowsiness, hinted by his half-lidded eyes and unguarded appearance. He assessed Ruediger from head to toe.
“Here he comes. The one who troubles me with that insane request.”
Nathaniel’s remarks led Ruediger to laugh out loud. Arching his brows, he replied to the former.
“Well, what to do? You’re the first I’ll think of whenever I need to do something impromptu.”
Nathaniel scoffed, knowing how well Ruediger could be shameless with him. Waving one hand, he looked at Tristan.
“Show him what we brought here.”
“Okay!”
While Tristan led Ruediger to the walk-in wardrobe, Nathaniel returned to sleeping on the couch. Crossing his long legs, he rested his ankles on the plush armrest.
“Mr. Rudy, we’ve brought everything you told us. I hung them out but, don’t worry ah. No one other than Mr. Nate knows.”
Tristan gestured in a direction. Ruediger’s emerald eyes swept from the young man’s beaming face to the closet surrounding the ensuite wardrobe.
An array of elegant dresses hung neatly, creating a vibrant symphony of different colors and styles presented to Ruediger’s eyes. Most of them were in shades of blue.
“It’s hard ah to bring everything here. So many boxes! I swear the hotel staff thought Mr. Nate is a fussy guest who needs to bring his entire home for this short stay.”
Tristan chimed from behind, sighing as he recalled when he and Nathaniel arrived yesterday. A few staff were required to transfer the boxes to Nathaniel’s suite.
Chuckles slipped out of Ruediger’s mouth, entertained by the imagination that came to his mind. Either way, he was just glad he could count on Nathaniel to realize this crazy idea of his.
Now that everything was here, which ones should he pick the best?
