Chapter 84: Turned Out That Man Liked Her
Leon’s appearance caused a stir for everyone left in the dressing room. Rafael stopped short in his tracks once he saw the former standing outside the door.
Leon’s sandy blonde hair was messy with several strands falling across his bruised, reddened face. Alaric’s punch left a dark welt forming on one side of his face.
The one-sided altercation caused by Alaric also ruined the initially immaculate state of his tailored suit.
“What are you doing here?”
Rafael’s sharp tone did nothing to flinch Leon. The man moved his gaze from the former to the inside of the dressing room, his eyes falling on Stephanie.
“I need to talk to Stephanie,” said Leon, his voice firm despite being on the receiving end of their furious gazes.
“You’ve done us enough damage today,” Declan quickly strode toward the door, displeased to see Leon at this hour, “Leave, Leon.”
Declan and Rafael had quite a good relationship with Leon because the latter was Alaric’s best friend. They had known each other for decades.
Since childhood, Leon often visited their home to play with Alaric, leading the other two brothers also form a friendship with him.
Never once did Declan and Rafael imagine that Leon was Stephanie’s affair partner.
“The damage is partially my fault, that’s a fact,” Leon arched his brows, seemingly unbothered by the displeasure shown by Declan and Rafael, “It takes two to tango, you know?”
“Y-you!”
“Rafael!”
Declan quickly stopped Rafael from striking his fist to Leon’s face. Even though the former himself wanted to do such a thing, he knew this would just aggravate the situation.
Leon curled up his lips, drawing a sneer on his face. Moving his gaze from Declan and Rafael, once again he looked at Stephanie whose countenance streaked with tears.
“Seems like we can’t talk properly. Anyway, check your phone later. Bye.”
Stepping backward, Leon winked before giving a flying kiss to Stephanie. He acted so casually as if he didn’t receive a punch and countless judgemental stares just earlier.
Stephanie was horrified. She couldn’t say anything to Leon even if she wanted to. Her twisting gut made her feel sick.
“Don’t listen to him, my dear,” Samantha squeezed Stephanie’s shoulders, frightened by the weird look on the latter’s face, “Don’t worry! Your father and I will handle him!”
“M-Mom…”
Once again fresh tears rolled down Stephanie’s cheeks. Samantha quickly pulled the pitiful daughter of hers back into her arms. She continued whispering comforting words to the lady.
Declan and Rafael exchanged a look of exasperation. Sighing, the former patted his younger brother’s back, urging him to resume what he initially planned to do.
Rafael hastily ran out of the room, leaving the mess behind. The echo of his hurried footsteps quickly faded from the hallway.
Lariette was still quiet. She didn’t feel the need to say anything in this situation.
But…
‘What does he want?’
It was surprising to see Leon coming to meet Stephanie after the chaos. Lariette initially thought that the man would be hiding somewhere by this time.
Did he want something?
Lariette didn’t have any fond memories of Leon. She often bumped into him when she still stayed in the Elsher family’s main residence. He always came to meet Alaric.
Despite not interacting with each other, Lariette could sense how hostile Leon was with her. She often tried to stay far away when the man came.

Seeing how much Leon openly pampered Stephanie made Lariette think this man disliked her existence. Her return was seen as threatening Stephanie’s position in the family even though the truth was far from it.
“I didn’t expect he actually likes her.’
Lariette thought Leon treated Stephanie like a younger sister. Turned out, that he most likely bore feelings for that woman.
What if Leon used this chance to openly pursue Stephanie?
Lariette’s sapphire eyes slowly shifted from the door to Stephanie. The latter was still crying in Samantha’s embrace, her lavish gold wedding dress catching the light of the exquisite lamps.
Anyway, this wasn’t her problem.
“…?”
Blinking, Lariette looked up to one side as she felt a familiar warmth on her back. Ruediger’s emerald eyes collided with hers. His faint smile was reflected in her orbs.
“Aren’t you tired? Just standing like this?” Ruediger uttered, his husky voice a low murmur in Lariette’s ears.
“Oh, I forgot.”
A helpless chuckle escaped Lariette’s lips. She was so engrossed in the situation that she forgot to sit even after the relatives had left. Many chairs were vacant already.
“Lari, Eddy, sit down,” Chairman Delaney also had just realized the same thing. He looked from his granddaughter to his grandson-in-law, “Let’s leave after Phanie and your mom do.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
Sinking into a plush couch near Chairman Delaney, Lariette kicked off her heels. Her feet and calves suffered some strain from wearing the high heels for quite a long time.
Ruediger lowered himself to the seat next to Lariette, noticing her little action. Leaning closer to her, he whispered, his words only audible to her.
“Feet hurt?”
Lariette blinked, sensing a shiver coursing through her just by the two words spoken by Ruediger. His deep, velvety voice brushed against her ear within the close proximity.
“…yes.”
Lariette nodded softly, trying to ignore the sudden fluttering of her heartbeat. Ruediger’s low chuckle rang by her side, making her feel a little self-conscious.
“You should soak your feet in hot water once we’re back,” suggested Ruediger, glancing at his phone, “Oh, Maddie’s there already.”
Madeline had safely arrived back at the villa. Lariette momentarily forgot about it due to the chaos caused by the Elsher family relatives earlier.
“She should have a meal or something,” Lariette whispered back to Ruediger, “She didn’t eat much earlier.”
Well, both Lariette and Madeline planned to enjoy the free delicious food served during the reception. Unfortunately, the situation was messy enough to do so.
Lariette and Ruediger didn’t notice that Stephanie had ceased crying histerically. Through Samantha’s embrace, her blue eyes, now reddened and swollen, watched the little intimacy displayed by them.
Her chest heaved, Stephanie bit her lower lip so hard that she tasted blood.
How could that bitch look so blissfully happy when she was suffering?
This wasn’t fair!
