Chapter 88: Touring the Isle
“I can’t believe Maddie chose to stay at the villa. Is she a lazy tabby or something?”
Lariette’s words earned chuckles from Ruediger. Her words were audible above the hum of the engine of the motorboat. Tearing his eyes from the azure sea, he glanced at her.
Lariette wore a casual outfit today; long khaki pants, a round-collared T-shirt and a light jacket. Her chocolate brown hair was tied into a ponytail, slid through the hole at the back of a pink cap.
Arching one of his brows, Ruediger replied with a smirk, “Seems like she won’t trade her bed for today’s adventure.”
Lariette nodded, quickly agreeing with Ruediger, “Today is her lazy day, I guess.”
Ruediger simply smiled before he focused back on manning the motorboat. He and Lariette were heading to the tiny island, named Lilybrook Isle which she mentioned yesterday.
The clock had just struck eight-fifteen, the day had barely begun.
The sun was high enough to shower the area under its bright light, leaving shimmers on the ocean blue sea. The light filtered through the sunroof and the front window of the boat.
None of them cared to know about the current state of affairs surrounding the ruined wedding from yesterday.
Truthfully, Lariette was oblivious to the true intention of why Madeline suddenly decided to sit out of going to the isle.
Intending to give her cousin some alone time with her friend, the lady sacrificed the fun. She didn’t tell anyone until when her friend came to wake her up this morning.
While Lariettec remained oblivious, Ruediger caught up to Madeline’s true intent. He couldn’t help but praise his cousin inwardly.
He wouldn’t say no to any alone time with the lady in his heart.
“You really have done this plenty before.”
Lariette’s voice once again pulled Ruediger’s attention to her. He didn’t miss the tinge of marvel in her tone. Hearing it was enough to fill his heart with pride.
Turning his head to where Lariette sat, Ruediger curled his lips into a smirk. His crimson fringes and loose strands of his bun whipped in the breeze.
“I’m glad if you’re amazed with me. That’s another bonus skill from your househusband.”
“Hahaha! I sure do!”
Bursting into laughter, Lariette shook her head in helplessness. Her sapphire eyes, which were as enchanting as the ocean, were concealed behind her closed eyelids.
Lariette couldn’t help but marvel seeing how expertly Ruediger manned the boat, gliding smoothly across the waves. His steady hands and confident demeanor impressed her.
“We’ll arrive soon.”
Ruediger’s remark earned a nod from Lariette. Both of them looked at the isle in front. The closer they were to the place, the clearer its lush greenery and pristine white sand were.
Ruediger navigated the boat toward a wooden pier. Without wasting time, he docked the hull, preventing it from drifting across the sea.
Lariette grabbed her backpack alongside the picnic basket. There was a place she wanted to bring Ruediger before touring the island.
“Here, milady,” Ruediger offered a hand to Lariette, a charming smile curved on his lips. He already shouldered a backpack of his own behind his back.
“Hehe, thank you.”
Lariette accepted Ruediger’s hand, stepping onto the dock with ease. She planted her feet on the firm wooden pier, leaving the swaying floor of the boat behind.
“We have to walk a bit,” Lariette pointed in a direction as Ruediger took the picnic basket from her, “Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
The air was fresh with a hint of saltiness of the ocean. The atmosphere was generally quiet, save for the gentle rustling of leaves and rhythmic lap of waves kissing the shore.

Leaving the open beach area, Lariette led Ruediger into the forest. They walked along a path flanked by wildflowers. The sun cast its light through the swaying leaves of the towering trees.
“A cabin?”
Ruediger raised his brows slightly as his emerald eyes spotted a quaint wooden cabin, nestling beneath the surrounding trees, including the pines.
The rustic charm of the cabin was evident through its wooden walls and front and side porches. He also saw a small storeroom not far from the cabin.
“Only our family and the staff have the key,” Lariette explained, excitement lighting up her eyes, “We rarely use it but, it’s well-stocked with everything necessary.”
Taking a key out of her backpack, Lariette unlocked the door. Ruediger followed from behind as she stepped in.
The cabin had a warm, homey interior. The sunlight filtered through the windows, illuminating a modest living space with comfortable furniture.
After taking the shoes off at the entryway, Lariette gestured her right hand around the cabin.
“Here’s the living room. We also have two bedrooms, one washroom and a small kitchen here. The staff always make sure we have the basic necessities here.”
The cabin was left alone for most part of the year but, the staff regularly came to clean and ensure the stocks were available.
Once, Lariette and Madeline stayed in the cabin for two days during their visit. The two ladies had fun enjoying the solitude offered by the isle.
After a brief tour of the cabin, Lariette and Ruediger stepped out again. They only brought the picnic basket and a small tote bag along.
Instead of heading to the beach, Lariette led Ruediger through the narrow path further into the forest. Their feet stepped on the broken twigs and gravel on the forest floor, occasionally dead tree trunks.
“Where are you taking me?” asked Ruediger, a smile hinting at his velvety voice, “You’re the tour guide for today. We won’t get lost, right?”
Laughter bubbled from Lariette’s lips. Glancing at Ruediger, mirth dancing in her sapphire eyes.
“The lagoon is better than the beach. Let’s go!”
Arching his brows, Ruediger’s expression softened. He closely trailed after Lariette whose excitement seeped out through her glimmering eyes and the jovial tone of her voice.
The narrow path gradually became wider the more they walked. Ruediger’s emerald eyes finally spotted the lagoon, an enchanting pocket of water nestled along the coast of the tiny island.
“It’s like the secluded beach from the other day, right?” Lariette grinned, revealing the two rows of pearly white teeth, “But, better.”
“It’s indeed better.”
Ruediger nodded softly, singing the same tune as Lariette.
The newlyweds were surrounded by the bliss, unaware of the lurking presence nearby.
