Chapter 98: The Reddened Tips of His Ears
<.Chairman Delaney’s beach villa.>
Once everyone had returned to the villa, Dr. Larson examined Lariette one more time. The others, including Ruediger, worriedly waited by the bedside. Their focus was only on her.
Instead of bringing Lariette into the inner room, Ruediger put her down on the main bed.
The previously darkened sky slowly regained its luminous state, showering the island under the sun’s warmth and brightness.
Like before, Dr. Larson stated that Lariette’s condition was generally alright.
Still, Chairman Delaney couldn’t keep his worry at bay. The elderly man’s gaze zeroed into Lariette who was leaning against the bed headboard.
The sight of his granddaughter’s pallid face pricked his heart. He couldn’t imagine the fear and stress she was under when escaping from those two scums.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?” Chairman Delaney sighed, the wrinkles on his forehead deepening as he frowned, “You know, we can’t be too careful.”
Azure Bay was equipped with a good hospital for tourists and residents. The medical facility was only fifteen minutes from this villa.
Chuckles slipped from Lariette’s lips upon hearing Chairman Delaney’s suggestion. She could tell that her grandfather’s worry wouldn’t recede anytime soon.
Lightly shaking her head, Lariette playfully refused the offer, “Grandpa, I haven’t forgotten my previous hospital stay. You want me to go to one again?”
Lariette’s cheeky reply earned faint and helpless laughter from Chairman Delaney. Ruediger tore his eyes from the lady, looking at the elderly man.
“Your dear Lari will be fine, Grandpa. Dr. Larson said she needs plenty of rest, right? I’ll be here so, I’ll immediately call the doctor if anything happens.”
Lariette quickly nodded, followed by Madeline in her show of support. Dr. Larson said nothing but, his expression indicated he thought the same as the others.
Haha… the chairman could be very worried about his granddaughter.
Dr. Larson believed the two assailants’ fate would be worse if the young miss sustained more grave injuries aside from some cuts.
Chairman Delaney released another long and heavy sigh, understanding he might make Lariette uncomfortable if this kept going on.
“Then, I’ll count on you, Eddy,” Chairman Delaney glanced at Ruediger, giving the man a weak smile, “We’ll leave now.”
Ruediger lifted one hand, gently patting Chairman Delaney’s back. The firmness of his palm somehow helped to alleviate a little of the elderly man’s concern.
Chairman Delaney, Madeline and Dr. Larson stepped out of the bedroom, leaving Lariette and Ruediger behind.
“Are you hungry? The kitchen sent porridge here.”
Ruediger gestured at the food tray sitting on the side table. An easy smile hung on his lips as he took in the exhausted look on Lariette’s face.
“I’m hungry,” Lariette patted her tummy, smiling sheepishly, “I think I’ll sleep like a log soon.”
Laughing in helplessness, Ruediger lowered himself to the edge of the bed, facing Lariette.
He carried the bowl of porridge, holding it with one hand. Its fragrant smell wafted in the air once he took off the lid.
“I should feed you, no?” Ruediger arched his brows, one corner of his lips rising higher, “The bowl is quite heavy.”
Blinking, Lariette stared at the ceramic bowl in Ruediger’s hand. She doubted it was that heavy but…
“Okay. I’ll let my husband feed me.”
Lariette sheepishly tucked a corner of her hair behind one ear when Ruediger chuckled. She scooted closer to the edge of the bed instead of staying in the middle, far from him.
Ruediger simply smiled as he stirred the chicken porridge with a spoon. He was overjoyed inwardly because of Lariette’s willingness with this another one of intimate acts.

Scooping a spoonful of warm porridge, Ruediger carefully blew it to cool the porridge down. His emerald eyes softened as he gently brought the spoon to Lariette’s lips.
“Careful, it’s still hot.”
Ruediger’s deep voice was a low murmur in the quiet bedroom. Lariette, slightly flushed, stared at him briefly before taking a bite.
The chicken porridge was warm and comforting, something Lariette yearned for after such an ordeal. The creamy porridge absorbed the savory taste of the chicken broth. Its slightly thick texture was to her liking.
“It’s yummy.”
Lariette’s remark earned laughter from Ruediger. He replied cheekily, “Maybe you can finish a bowl or two.”
“Haha! That’s too much!”
Lariette let Ruediger continue feeding her. He took a pause here and there, ensuring she was comfortable between each spoon.
As Ruediger carefully fed Lariette, her eyes lingered on him, from the soft expression on his face to his steady movements.
Ruediger’s crimson locks framed his face with a few loose strands falling over his brow. Lariette clenched her hand under the blanket, refraining from reaching for his hair.
Lariette believed she wouldn’t ever forget what happened today—recalling the moment Ruediger appeared when she needed help the most.
The man gallantly scoured the forest under the downpour, hastily looking for her after dealing with the scumbags.
If this was inside a movie, Lariette knew Ruediger was the most reliable hero.
‘How funny.’
Lariette held back from laughing at her own thought. She focused back on the porridge, not realizing the tips of Ruediger’s ears were as red as his hair despite his calm countenance.
She thought she was being cautious enough yet, he noticed what she did from the beginning.
Cough.
“Eddy, it’s fine now. I’m full.”
Lariette gestured for Ruediger to stop after having half of the porridge. She didn’t want to be too full lest she would be uncomfortable sleeping.
“Drink some water. Careful”
Ruediger didn’t push Lariette to finish the porridge. Putting the bowl on the tray, he grabbed the glass of water before handing it to her.
Lariette held the glass with both hands, relishing the lingering warmth. She slowly drank the mineral water, washing over the taste of porridge in her mouth.
“Gonna nap now?” Ruediger rose to his feet, and the place where he sat gradually returned to its previous state, “Or, will you do anything else?”
“I’ll wait for a bit before I take a nap,” Lariette replied with a chuckle. She seemed more comfortable than before, “Can you please switch on the TV? I wanna use my phone but, I lost it.”
“Sure.”
Ruediger told Declan about Lariette’s missing phone. The man’s bodyguards might be able to retrieve it during their search later.
After switching on the TV, Ruediger handed the remote controller to Lariette upon her request. He was tidying the dishes when a man’s singing echoed in the room.
“…”
Looking away from the table, Ruediger’s emerald eyes lay on the huge screen of the smart TV—showing a VibeTube channel.
A familiar drawing, followed by a familiar voice serenading to a song captured his senses.
“You like this singer, don’t you?” asked Ruediger, his gaze returning to Lariette.
The lady smiled, her eyes glimmering with delight. Once she spoke, Ruediger noticed her face glowed even more, expressing her joy.
“Yes~ Hehe, I usually use my headphones so you didn’t know that I always listen to him at home. He’s my favorite cover artist, Mr. Dreamer. You should check him out, Eddy.”
“…I really should.”
Laughing faintly, Ruediger hoped he didn’t sound too awkward. He couldn’t help but think what Lariette would say once she found out he was the Mr. Dreamer.
Haha… That name was somewhat corny. He shouldn’t let Madeline pick it for him.
