Chapter 181: Time To End This
Matthew pulled out his phone and handed it to him. “Here. Take it and call your wife. Tell her to announce it,” Matthew said and Sherlock didn’t need to ask why since at this point, only his wife could announce him dead and everyone would believe.
No one would ask to see his body since she could easily claim to have buried him. Though this was risky for his wife, it was what he had to do to remain alive and have someone as evil as Chloe to go scot free.
Having agreed, Sherlock took Matthew’s phone and typed his wife’s number, his fingers slightly unsteady as he dialed the number.
“Hello?” A woman’s voice answered almost immediately, thick with worry.
“Helen,” Sherlock said quietly. “It’s me.”
A sharp gasp. “Oh my God! You’re alive? What is going on? Where are you? The maid saw blood in the house and called me. I’m on my way to Zeden as we speak. Where are you, baby?”
Sherlock exhaled slowly. “Listen to me. My life is in danger. I need you to tell everyone the moment you get home that you found my body this morning. Tell them I committed suicide out of guilt for what I did for Hunter against his father.”
There was silence. Then a trembling as his wife’s thoughts swirled. Why was her husband saying such things? She thought and decided to ask him instead of thinking about it. “What? Why? What’s going on?”
“Just do it,” Sherlock pleaded. “I promise you… it’s the only way to keep me safe and I’ll tell you all about it after everything is over.”
Helen hesitated, but finally, she whispered, “Okay.”
Even though she needed to know everything and understand it, trusting and keeping her husband alive was the most important thing right now. She told herself.
When the call ended, Sherlock handed Matthew his phone back.
Matthew stood up, adjusting his jacket. “Now, I need to retrieve your phone and the will.”
Before he left, he turned to Christy who was in the living room. “Thank you for looking after him. Remember my instructions.”
Christy nodded as she watched him go. She couldn’t help feeling grateful for ever running into someone as kind hearted as Matthew.
Even though she didn’t know what was going on, she knew whatever it was, Matthew was after a good cause so she was going to do as he wanted without questions.
Then, with one last glance at Sherlock’s room door, Matthew stepped out of the house, determination burning in his eyes.
It was time to end this.

Ivy was sitting at her desk that afternoon and flipping through some documents when her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen to see that it was Emma calling her.
Frowning slightly, she picked up the call. “Hey, babes, what’s up?”
“Have you seen the news?” Emma’s voice came through, urgent and slightly breathless, causing Ivy to immediately straightened.
“What news?” she asked almost immediately.
It just seemed like they were going round taking turns in being talked about on all gossip columns.
There was a brief pause before Emma spoke again, her voice quieter this time. “Hunter’s father’s lawyer… he’s dead. They say he committed suicide yesterday.”
Ivy’s heart skipped a beat at the news. It couldn’t be. That had to be some sort of joke. What happened? Why would he commit suicide all of a sudden?
Her fingers tightened around the phone as she processed Emma’s words. “What? How and why?”
“Yeah,” Emma continued. “It’s true, Vee and it gets worse. He left a note saying Hunter is guilty of trying to change his father’s will. Things are really not looking good for Hunter with this new development, Vee.”
The air in Ivy’s office suddenly felt too thick, and too heavy as she processed Emma’s words but the more she tried to understand, the more complicated and suffocating it felt.

So, without a word to Emma or waiting for her to say more, she hung up.
Her hands trembled slightly as she reached for her laptop, her mind racing with thoughts she couldn’t fully grasp yet. This couldn’t be happening. It just couldn’t.
Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she opened the news site and true to Emma’s words, there it was.
BREAKING NEWS: Lawyer Who Handled Late Mr. Stone’s Estate Found Dead – Suicide Note Confirms Hunter Stone as His Murderer Just So He Could Have All His Father’s Properties Instead Of His Step Sibling, Chloe Stone.
Ivy stared at the screen, her breath shallow and her mind racing. It felt like the world was spinning as she continued staring at the screen.
Her vision blurred slightly as she scrolled through the article, reading every single word carefully.
The report claimed that the lawyer, Mr. Sherlock, had been found dead early that morning by his wife. That he had taken his own life out of guilt—because he had supposedly helped cover up Hunter’s crime. And that before dying, he had left a confession, stating that Hunter had, in fact, murdered his father.
Ivy’s stomach twisted as she stop up to pace around, looking for fresh air since she was feeling suffocated being so close to the computer.
This is bad.
She had always known that things were messy, but this? This was the worst possible situation.
With this so-called suicide note, there was no way Hunter would get out of jail. Even if he was innocent, this changed everything.
Thinking about it, she stopped pacing and walked over to her desk. She grabbed her phone again and dialed Matthew’s number.
She resumed pacing around as she waited for him to pick up.
“Pick up. Pick up. Pick up,” she muttered as she paced the entire length of her office.
She bit her lip, her other hand clenched into a tight fist.
Finally, after what felt like forever, Matthew answered. “Ivy.”
His voice was calm, but Ivy could hear the edge underneath.
“Have you seen the news?” she asked immediately, her voice tight with panic.
A small pause. Then, Matthew exhaled. “I have.”
Ivy squeezed her eyes shut. “Matthew, this is bad. How… how can we prove otherwise when there’s an actual suicide note? It’s obvious Hunter is doomed.”
Her heart was pounding. She had been trying so hard to believe that things would get better. That somehow, someway, they would find the truth and get Hunter out.
Even though she didn’t exactly want anything to do with him again, she didn’t want him to pay for a crime he didn’t commit.
But now? Now, it felt impossible and that he was going to pay for it whether or not she liked it.
How could they fight against a suicide note? Against what looked like a clear confession from a man who was no longer alive to defend himself?
“Ivy, listen to me,” Matthew said, his voice pulling her back from her reverie.
“Everything is under control,” he said firmly. “Hunter will not rot in jail.”
Ivy let out a shaky breath, frustration gnawing at her. “But how? Matthew, they have a suicide note. Everyone’s going to believe it!”
“I know,” he said. “But I’m working something out.”
Ivy frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Matthew didn’t answer immediately. When he did, his voice was careful. “I can’t tell you everything right now. Just trust me.”
Ivy gritted her teeth. “Matthew, that was what you said last—”
“Yes and just like I told you last night,” he cut her off gently, “relax and let me handle things.”
Ivy opened her mouth to argue, to demand answers but then she stopped.
Though she didn’t know much about Matthew, somehow, deep down, she believed him after all, he was the first to believe in Hunter.
If he said he was handling it, then he probably was.
She exhaled slowly, forcing her body to relax. Maybe he really did have a plan.
Maybe… just maybe… this wasn’t the end. She thought as she swallowed hard, trying to push back the lingering doubt in her chest.
“Alright,” she finally said, though her voice was still uncertain. “I’ll try.”
“Good.” Matthew’s voice was steady. “Now go about your day as usual. Don’t let this shake you.”
Ivy nodded, even though he couldn’t see her.
“I’ll talk to you later,” Matthew added before ending the call.
Ivy lowered the phone slowly, staring at it for a moment.
Her mind was still racing.
Her heart was still pounding.
But she told herself to breathe.
To trust.
Matthew wouldn’t let Hunter take the fall for something he didn’t do.
He wouldn’t.
Still, no matter how much she told herself that, the fear wouldn’t fully go away.
She had seen the news.
She had read the words with her own eyes.
And the world was already turning against Hunter.
Would they really be able to stop it before it was too late?
Taking a deep breath, she set her phone down and rubbed her temples.
She had to believe.
For now, that was all she could do.
