Chapter 216: DNA Results?
The airport was busy, people coming and going, dragging suitcases and hugging their loved ones. But Alex stood still, his eyes fixed on the arrival gate, his heart pounding louder than the noise around him.

Emma stood by his side, her hand gently holding his. Margaret and Claire were just behind them, waiting patiently.

Though they didn’t exactly know her face, they hoped they could at least recognize her from the photograph Harry had sent Alex a while ago.

“There she is,” Emma whispered, squeezing Alex’s hand gently when she saw someone that looked exactly like the person from the photograph.

A woman stepped out, looking around nervously. She looked like she was in her late thirties, holding the hand of a small boy with curly hair and curious eyes. She looked nothing like a stranger. Somehow, Alex’s heart just knew it was her.

“Go to her. I know you both have to talk. We’ll be by the car,” Emma said and then dropped a kiss on his lips before she, Claire and Margaret left to wait by the car.

“Fiona?” he called softly, almost afraid his voice might crack.

Her eyes scanned around before it met his, and for a second, they just stared at each other. Then she gave a small nod, walking closer with her son. Her eyes were moist but kind.

“Alex?” she asked gently.

He nodded. “Yes… I’m Alex.”

She looked at him for a few seconds longer before giving a small, emotional smile. “I can’t believe I’m finally meeting you. You’re my brother, Alex. This feels so unreal.”

He felt the lump in his throat rise, but he fought it. “Me too. I didn’t know what to expect… but I’m really glad you’re here.”

She nodded slowly, looking down at her son. “This is Liam. He’s five. My son,” she said and Alex looked down at Liam.

“Hi, Liam,” Alex said, crouching down to the boy’s level. “I’m your uncle.”

Liam blinked at him for a second before whispering, “You look like Mommy.”

That made Fiona chuckle softly. “That’s because we’re siblings, honey.”

Alex stood back up and looked at her. “I don’t know where to start… or what to say. But… thank you for agreeing to meet. Thank you for wanting to see me. Thank you for searching for me. I heard about all that.”

Fiona looked at him, eyes searching. “How did you even find out about me? I’ve been looking for my brother for years even though I didn’t exactly know him…. you,” she corrected with a soft chuckle.

Alex sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “A relative… from the family I grew up with. He told me just before he passed. I had no memory of my life before I was seven. I think my mind just blocked it all out. After he talked about it, I asked and was told I used to wake up screaming from nightmares— wasn’t exactly nightmares. It was my memory of watching our parents die… and you being taken away while I remained there unmovable.”

Fiona’s heart squeezed at the thought. “You were just a kid. You must’ve been so scared.”

“I guess I was. I’ve tried to remember for years, but it was all blank. Until i heard about a possibility of having a sister and then got a locket from my sister…. one I used to keep. I saw our family photo and then… something clicked.”

Fiona’s eyes were soft as she reached out and held his hand. “I’m just glad we’re here now. I know our parents would be smiling down at us, now. Glad we found our way back to each other after living our whole life apart.”

Alex swallowed the lump in his throat as he nodded and started leading her to the direction of where Emma, Claire and Margaret were waiting. “I’m sorry I didn’t remember you earlier. I wish I had.”

“It’s okay,” she said gently. “We were so young. And it wasn’t your fault. I’m sure the trauma was too much.”

She paused for a second. “So… did you do the test? You must’ve gotten the DNA results, right? Is that why you reached out?”

Alex blinked. “DNA results? I didn’t ask for any DNA test.”

Fiona frowned slightly. “You didn’t?”

He shook his head. “No… it must’ve been Harry. He handled everything. I just told him I wanted to meet you if it really was true,” he lied, knowing it was probably Jake’s doing.

He narrowed his eyes when he realized it could be Fiona’s blood he had perhaps wanted to swap with Dawn’s that was why he was unfazed by him requesting a DNA test.

Fiona slowly smiled, her heart warming. “So you believed we were family… just like that? You don’t need any form of assurance?”

“I think I felt it. Somewhere deep down,” Alex said, his voice thick with emotion.

She smiled even wider. “Well… I guess now that we’ve found each other, we need to get to know each other. Like a new beginning.”

Alex nodded. “I’d like that,” he said as they stopped where Emma, Claire and Margaret were waiting.

Fiona turned to them and Emma smiled at her, making Fiona turn to Alex in confusion.

“Hi Fiona, I’m Emma—Alex’s wife,” she said and that was when Fiona realized why Emma was smiling at her.

Fiona gave her a small smile. “Nice to meet you.”

“This is Claire,” Emma added, gesturing, “and that’s Margaret. They’re his sisters. Yours, too, now I guess.”

Fiona looked at them all, a little guarded at first, but they each smiled warmly, welcoming her without pressure.

Margaret bent down and smiled at Liam. “Hey, buddy. How are you, handsome?” she asked but Liam slowly hid his face behind his mother.

Fiona watched as Margaret pretended like she was thinking while Liam tried to peek at her.

“Do you like dinosaurs?” Margaret asked after sometime.

Immediately, Liam’s face lit up. “Yes! I love them!” he exclaimed, coming out fully to face Margaret while everyone else suppressed their laughter.

“That’s bad. I was hoping you didn’t so I’d show you. But not to worry. I have a few toy dinosaurs at home. Maybe you can come play with them sometime, that is if your mommy agrees, of course.”

Liam looked at his mom, excitement bubbling in his eyes. “Can I, Mommy?”

Fiona gave a soft laugh and nodded. “Sure.”

Alex watched them all interact, his heart fuller than it had ever been. For so long, he had lived his life without knowing he needed another sister or that he needed to reconnect with anyone.

But now—seeing Fiona here, seeing his family together—it felt like his life had been blessed with a piece he hadn’t realized was missing before.

“I’m really glad you’re here,” he said again to Fiona.

She smiled, a little mist in her eyes. “Me too, Alex. Me too,” she said as they all got into the car and drove off.
