Hello, Ex! I Finally Found My Worth! - Chapter 89
Chapter 89: Kidnapped
“Chris?”
“Emma.” His tone was serious, almost apologetic.
Emma’s brow furrowed when she heard his voice. “What’s wrong?” she asked sensing there was something wrong.
“There’s a problem,” he said, running his fingers through his hair.
Though he had talked to Alex and knowing that Alex was probably going to listen and confess to Emma, he also needed to talk to Emma and let her know the situation of things and his connection to Alex.
Her stomach tightened. “What kind of problem?” she asked, not sure she would like whatever Chris was about to say.
Chris hesitated, and she could hear him take a deep breath before answering. “Our deal. It’s off.”
Emma froze, the words sinking in like stones in water. “What?” she said, her voice sharper than she intended. “What do you mean it’s off? Are you playing games with me, Chris? First, you say you can’t help, then you agree, and now this? What the hell?” she asked, unable to keep her calm any longer.
“I know, I know,” Chris said quickly. “It’s not what you think. I have a good reason.”
Emma’s grip on the phone tightened. “What reason could possibly justify this?” she demanded, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
Chris sighed on the other end. “It’s your husband. I just found out that your Alex, is my best friend, Alex.”
Her heart skipped a beat. “What are you talking about?”
“I went to see him today,” Chris explained. “My best friend. Alexander Sterling. We were talking and I told him about the woman I love, Claire. It wasn’t until I saw his face when I mentioned Claire’s name that I realized they’re siblings. Claire is Alex’s sister. And by virtue knows I’m interested in her, not you as you and Claire had made him believe.”
Emma’s stomach twisted. The air seemed to leave the room, leaving her breathless. She couldn’t find the words to respond, her mind reeling from the revelation.
How could Alex be Christopher’s best friend? Out of Christopher in the world, it had to be him? What was this?
Was this probably a sign that she and Alex were never meant to be? How could this even be happening? She mused, tears glistening in her eyes.
“Emma?” Chris’s voice was softer now, almost hesitant. “Are you still there?”
She swallowed hard, forcing herself to speak. “Yeah, I’m here,” she said, her voice quieter now.
“I’m sorry,” Chris said. “I really am. But this changes everything. I can’t help you anymore. Not when Alex knows the truth. It’d just make things more complicated for everyone. Not just complicated, Alex would think I’m playing games with both his sister and wife. We can’t afford that.”
Emma nodded even though he couldn’t see her. “I get it. Thanks for letting me know,” she said shortly.
Before Chris could say anything else, she ended the call and dropped the phone onto the bed. Her heart was pounding, her thoughts a chaotic mess.
Alex is Chris’s best friend. Had Chris told Alex about the plan too?
She sat there, staring at the floor, her emotions swirling. Embarrassment, frustration, and something deeper—something she couldn’t quite name coursing through her.
What do I do now? She wondered.
The arrangement she’d made with Alex had always been temporary, but now it felt unbearable. The awkwardness, the tension… it was too much. She couldn’t stay in this house, not like this.
Without giving it much thought, Emma stood and grabbed a jacket from the back of her chair. She needed space. Time to think. To figure out what she really wanted.
Maybe a few days away from this space would help. She thought as she slipped her phone into her pocket. Maybe then I can finally decide—whether to tell Alex how I feel or to just end this once and for all.
After all, Jake was behind bars and Vanessa off his back. Their problems had been solved so there was nothing stopping her from ending this whole charade.
She stepped out of her room and moved quietly through the house. She didn’t want to risk running into Claire or any of the household staff right now.

Her emotions were too raw, too messy to talk to anyone right now.
As she stepped outside, the cool evening air hit her, calming her racing heart. The city lights twinkled in the distance, and for a moment, she felt a flicker of relief.
But that relief was short-lived.
The moment she stepped through the gate, a van screeched to a halt in front of her. Before she could react, two men in dark clothing jumped out.
“Hey! What are you—” she started to yell, but one of them grabbed her, clamping a hand over her mouth.
Her eyes widened in panic as she struggled against their grip, but they were too strong. She tried to kick, to scream, but it was no use.
“Get her in the van,” one of the men growled.
Emma’s heart raced as they dragged her toward the vehicle.
This can’t be happening. Why is this happening? Who were they and why were they kidnaping her?
She fought harder, her adrenaline surging, but it wasn’t enough. They shoved her into the van, and the door slammed shut behind her.
As the engine roared to life and the van sped away, Emma’s mind raced with fear and desperation.
She hadn’t told anyone she was going anywhere and now she was being kidnapped. For what reason? Was it for money or what?
“Where are you taking me? What did I do?” Emma asked, looking through the masked men.
Emma watched in horror as the men exchanged glances and before she knew it, one of them took out a syringe pump.
“What are you doing…..” before she could finish her words, the man pierced her with it.
Emma felt the ground sway beneath her feet. She opened her mouth to speak but her lips felt too heavy to move as a wave of dizziness swept through her.
Her eyelids felt heavy and no matter how hard she tried to fight it, Emma found herself slipping into unconsciousness, darkness taking over her.
