Chapter 105: In the Hands of Vilain
Rage boiled through my veins, raw and blistering, hotter than Smaug’s flames, sharper than any blade I’d ever held. I didn’t care about control; I didn’t care about limits. All that mattered was vengeance swift, brutal, and merciless.
“You will pay,” I snarled, my voice raw, trembling with fury and grief. My vision blurred, tears scalding down my cheeks. Mara and Elira had sacrificed themselves for me loyal, devoted, and protective until the bitter end. I couldn’t no, I wouldn’t allow their sacrifice to be in vain.
[Don’t lose yourself now,] the system murmured urgently, voice edged with rare concern. [Rage clouds judgment. Keep your wits about you.]
I shook my head sharply, fighting to push aside my overwhelming grief. Around me, chaos erupted Aria conjured frantic barriers, Riven drew his small dagger defensively, and Smaug snarled, flames blazing like an inferno, hot enough to scorch the air around him. He lunged fiercely, talons slashing toward the attackers, fire spilling forth in an uncontrollable torrent.
But it wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough.
The hooded figure laughed, stepping forward leisurely, casually batting aside Smaug’s flames with a flick of their hand. “Ah, the legendary heir of Velmoria,” they mocked, their tone dripping with disdain. “All that potential, yet unable to protect those you claim to cherish.”
My blood turned to ice, dread gripping my chest painfully tight. My gaze flickered helplessly to Mara and Elira’s crumpled forms, lying motionless amidst pooling crimson. Anguish clawed viciously at my heart, nearly crippling in its intensity.
A sob wrenched painfully from my throat. “Why? Why are you doing this?”
The figure stepped closer, amusement evident beneath their hood. “To show you the truth, dear princess,” they replied softly. “Your power is wasted here, bound by false ideals and foolish sentimentality. Imagine what you could achieve what you could become free from such trivial bonds.”
Riven bristled defensively, standing protectively in front of me, shaking despite his best efforts to appear strong. “Don’t listen, Elyzara. They’re lying.”
“Am I?” the figure taunted. “You’re destined to rule to dominate. Yet you insist upon weakening yourself with worthless attachments. Those two fools died protecting you, precisely because you lack strength.”
Their words stabbed cruelly into my soul, pain sharper than any blade tearing mercilessly at my heart. My fists clenched tightly, nails biting into skin, drawing blood that dripped slowly onto the ground.
“Shut up,” I hissed fiercely, voice shaking uncontrollably. “You know nothing about me.”
The figure laughed mockingly, stepping forward menacingly. “I know more than enough.”
Their hand rose, dark magic erupting violently outward, lashing viciously toward us. Aria cried out, desperately weaving another barrier but it shattered instantly beneath the sheer force of their attack. The blast sent her sprawling, unconscious.
Riven shouted desperately, racing toward her. “Aria!”
“Enough,” I snarled, voice raw, magic surging uncontrollably, reckless and wild beneath my skin. “You won’t hurt them anymore.”
[Careful,] the system warned urgently, alarm rising sharply within its tone. [Your control is slipping if you lose it completely—]
I barely heard it. Power roared through me raw, primal, devastating and I released it all.
A torrent of energy exploded from my body, tearing savagely through the air, obliterating everything in its path. The attackers screamed, bodies flung violently aside, crumpling like ragdolls beneath the overwhelming force. Smaug roared triumphantly, seizing the opportunity, attacking mercilessly, flames engulfing the scattered survivors.
My vision darkened, exhaustion dragging heavily at my limbs, breath ragged and shallow. My magic pulsed weakly within me, drained nearly to emptiness. I staggered, nearly collapsing onto the scarred earth.
But my victory was short-lived.
A sinister chuckle echoed softly behind me, dread curling icily down my spine. My heart froze, breath catching painfully. I turned slowly, terror seizing my chest.
The hooded figure stood untouched, shielded by swirling darkness. Their hood had fallen back slightly, revealing a cold, cruel smile. “Impressive,” they murmured mockingly. “Yet futile.”
Fear surged, adrenaline spiking painfully through my veins, but my magic was spent, exhausted and useless now. I stumbled back weakly, trying desperately to summon strength that no longer existed.
“No,” I whispered, voice trembling. “Stay back.”
They smiled cruelly, stepping forward with slow, measured confidence. “Don’t worry, princess,” they said softly, dangerously gentle. “We have plans for you.”
Before I could react, tendrils of shadow burst forth, coiling viciously around me, binding my limbs painfully tight. I screamed, panic surging uncontrollably, fighting desperately against their hold but it was useless. They dragged me swiftly backward, away from my friends, away from safety.
“Elyzara!” Riven’s voice cracked painfully, desperation raw in his voice as he tried futilely to reach me, staggering weakly toward me despite his exhaustion. “No! Let her go!”
Smaug lunged forward fiercely, flames blazing but the shadows held firm, dragging me relentlessly into darkness.

Tears burned hotly down my cheeks, grief and terror consuming me, choking my sobbing breaths. I watched helplessly as Mara and Elira’s bodies faded further away, as Riven’s desperate screams became muffled echoes.
[Stay calm,] the system murmured urgently, voice tense yet comforting. [We’ll find a way out of this. Trust me.]
But my heart shattered, guilt and grief consuming every thought. I’d failed them—I’d failed everyone.
And now, I was alone.
Dragged mercilessly into darkness, my hope faded swiftly, replaced only by despair.
My vision blurred with tears, consciousness flickering weakly as the shadows enveloped me entirely, cold and suffocating.
“Rest,” a cold voice whispered cruelly. “You’ll awaken soon enough.”
Darkness claimed me.
When consciousness returned, it arrived slowly, painful awareness dragging me gradually from the merciful void. My limbs felt unbearably heavy, bound tightly with magical restraints that sapped whatever remained of my strength. My magic stirred faintly within me, weak and drained, barely responsive.
I groaned softly, head pounding fiercely, nausea roiling unpleasantly in my stomach. Memories returned with devastating clarity—Mara and Elira’s sacrifice, Riven’s desperate pleas, my abduction.
Grief and guilt surged anew, choking my throat, blurring my vision. Tears stung sharply, trickling silently down my face.
“Awake at last,” a voice murmured softly, coldly amused.
Fear surged, heart racing wildly as my gaze snapped upward, searching frantically for the source.
A figure emerged slowly from shadow, cloak discarded now, revealing an unfamiliar face, handsome yet terrifyingly cold. Eyes sharp as blades, merciless and cruel, watched me intently.
“Who are you?” I whispered hoarsely, voice shaking. “What do you want with me?”
He smiled faintly, stepping closer. “A chance, Elyzara Thorne. A chance to reshape the world. To abandon weakness and sentimentality to embrace power fully, unapologetically.”
My stomach twisted violently, revulsion mingling with dread. “You’re insane.”
His laughter was gentle, chillingly calm. “Perhaps. Or perhaps, I’m the only one who sees clearly.”
The system growled fiercely in my mind. [Don’t believe a word. He’s dangerous stay cautious.]
I swallowed painfully, forcing defiance into my trembling voice. “I’ll never help you.”
His smile turned mocking, eyes glittering dangerously. “We’ll see about that.”
