*swoosh* A gust of energy rippled through the air as Li Jia and Velnorah reappeared outside the ruined remains of the marriage hall.

The scent of blood lingered in the air, mingling with the acrid stench of burnt wood.

They noticed that there were soldiers walking around, clearing the corpses.

As she turned her head, Li Jia glimpsed at Ji Shuang and the Jade Empress talking to each other.

Velnorah and Li Jia exchanged a glance before both of them hurriedly walked toward Ji Shuang “Sect Master…”

The Jade Empress and Ji Shuang turned their heads to look at them.

Ji Shuang’s gaze condensed slightly “What happened?”

Li Jia hesitated for a second and let out a soft exhale before speaking up “Um, we need to talk about Tian?”

The moment the words left her lips, Ji Shuang’s eyes narrowed further and she glimpsed at the Jade Empress “We can discuss it later.”

“Then, I shall take my leave.” The Jade Empress nodded her head and left from there.

Once she was gone, Ji Shuang turned her full attention to Li Jia and Velnorah “Let’s go somewhere private first.”

They turned around and walked away from there, reaching a nearby secluded park first.

Once they reached an empty bench near a quiet lotus pond, the three of them sat down.

Ji Shuang raised a hand and formed a noise barrier around them.

A faint ripple of energy spread outward, muffling any sound beyond their space.

She turned her head slightly, glancing at Li Jia and Velnorah sitting beside her “Now, speak…”

Li Jia lowered her gaze as she began to spoke “It’s Tian. Something is… wrong.”

“I am really, really happy that he’s back…” Li Jia’s voice softened, filled with genuine relief. “But…”

Ji Shuang’s brows furrowed slightly. “What?”

Velnorah took a deep breath before picking up where Li Jia left off. “He’s different. Since he returned, he’s been distant. Cold. He won’t talk to anyone, and…” she hesitated

“…he hasn’t even smiled once.”

Li Jia nodded in agreement. “At first, we thought maybe he was just exhausted. But… it feels deeper than that.”

“So we were wondering if something happened in the Vampiric Star before it got destroyed because of the weapon, Brynnhilder.”

Hearing this, Ji Shuang’s gaze quivered as she didn’t know how to reply to this.

A long silence stretched between them before Ji Shuang let out a quiet sigh and muttered, “I think you’re forgetting someone… Yao Jing.”

“She was also kidnapped to the Vampiric High Star along with him.”

Velnorah and Li Jia were dumbfounded, as they really forgot about her because their full attention was on Zhao Tian and only him.

Ji Shuang continued “In Vampiric Star, Tian was tortured for his blood.. which is precious to the vampires.”

“I.. you guys know about his physique, right?”

Both of them were dumbfounded, as Ji Shuang knows it, but they simply nodded their heads “Yeah…”

Ji Shuang exhaled “For his blood, they kidnapped him. And for his blood, they tortured him. Over and over again.”

Li Jia’s eyes trembled in pain but she swallowed it down and asked “And Elder Yao Jing…?”

Ji Shuang lowered her gaze slightly, “She was tortured as well. But later…”

She hesitated, then closed her eyes briefly before finishing, “She was killed. Right in front of him.”

*gasp*

Hearing this, Velnorah and Li Jia shuddered in horror “E-Elder Yao Jing…”

Lowering her gaze, Ji Shuang spoke “Tian and Jing’er loved each other.. I can see that from their interaction.”

She sighed, her fingers tightening slightly on her lap. “But I never pointed it out or asked them directly. A relationship between a master and disciple might be seen as forbidden, and I didn’t want to put unnecessary pressure on them.”

A deep silence fell.

Li Jia and Velnorah snapped out of their reveries, digesting the horrifying news.

Zhao Tian had not only been tortured but had also been forced to witness the brutal death of the woman he loved.

Raising her head, Ji Shuang asked “Do you know how vampiric Star got destroyed…”

Velnorah blinked, momentarily shaken from her thoughts. “Uh… wasn’t it decided in the meeting between the rulers of the High Stars two days ago?”

She paused, realizing the significance “Tian came just in time to stop it.”

Looking at them, Ji Shuang dropped a bomb “Tian was the one who destroyed the vampiric Star.”

Li Jia and Velnorah stared at Ji Shuang in complete disbelief as their minds struggled to process what they had just heard.

“He… what?” Li Jia finally whispered in shock.

Velnorah’s gaze trembled “Tiian.. did?”

Nodding her head, Ji Shuang muttered “Mhm… I think seeing her death triggered some powers within his physique.”

“He even burned his own life force to destroy the Vampiric High Star.”

What the hell?

Li Jia and Velnorah just sat there in absolute shock…

He is the one who actually destroyed the star?

Annhilating a whole race?

Velnorah’s heart trembled as she realized that it was Zhao Tian who killed her whole race.

Now in the vampire race, probably only she remains.

Does he hate her too now?

Velnorah’s breath hitched as fear crept into her veins.

If he had destroyed them all… if he had gone so far as to burn his own life force to ensure their annihilation… did that mean he wish to erase her too?

She want to ask Ji Shuang… want to know if Zhao Tian had spoken of her, if there was even a sliver of hatred directed her way. But her voice failed her.

Looking at their pale faces, Ji Shuang continued “When I reached there, the planet was in splinters… everything was destroyed and I saw Tian amidst the destruction.”

“I quickly went to him and pulled him into the ark and brought him back.”

Li Jia bit her lip and blinked rapidly as moisture gathered at the edges of her eyes.

Velnorah, still stiff, lowered her gaze as her nails dug into her palm.

Ji Shuang watched them both for a moment before she finally spoke again, softer this time “He’s not the same man who left us. And I don’t think he ever will be.”

Velnorah swallowed hard as her mind screamed with conflicting emotions.

Li Jia wiped at her eyes, trying to push past the overwhelming sorrow gripping her chest. “What do we do now?”
