Chapter 143: Odd Proposition
When the evening rolled around, the group had gathered outside of a large shopping center. It was clear there was a convention going on inside. People on the outside were handing out tickets and cards for several different events. Hikari’s group stood out like a sore thumb.

It was unclear to the onlookers who they were cosplaying as. They were none of the characters anyone recognized, but they were all beautiful girls. A gorgeous elven goddess. A curvy and sensual vampiress. A beautiful girl with dragon horns and a thick tail. A nekomimi with cat ears and an amazing physique. A beautiful witch with a stunning face and pointed hat. And last but not least, a cute doll-like magical girl with stunning pink hair.

Luckily for them, these people didn’t surround them immediately. Only a few people were brave enough to come over and start asking questions. They were cosplayers themselves who were curious about this group’s choice of wear.

One girl was particularly enthralled by Aiko’s appearance. “Who are you supposed to be? You look so cute! I want to pick you up and squeeze you. Magical-girl-chan, can I take a picture with you?”

Aiko nodded a bit shyly. Her face reddened a little at the prospect.

Hikari was certain that Aiko had no interest in relationships, but she always wondered why that was. Whatever Aiko would choose for herself, Hikari would respect. She watched the two girls take a picture with smiles.

“What should we do first?” Hikari asked.

Ayase grinned and tapped Hikari on the shoulder. “I would like to go on my own if that’s okay? Can you lend me some yen?”

The elf nodded. As it turned out, Syndra, Kurayami, and Mizuko had the same idea as Ayase. They all left Hikari with her mother and went on their own.

In a way, it made Hikari happy to see that all of the girls were independent, but she was also nervous. She wondered what those girls would be buying. There was the sense that all of them were scheming something again, and it made Hikari nervous.

Aiko grabbed onto Hikari’s hand with a smile. “What do you want to do?”

“I don’t really know. I’ve not been to many of these types of events. We can walk around and see if we find something interesting.”

“That sounds like a good idea. I’ll follow your lead then.”

The two started walking and passed several booths on the way. There were many who chose the convention to sell things. People were selling manga, games, and clothing or food. There was really no end to the things people would try to sell at these conventions.

Hikari found herself unable to resist the call of candy apples, and she ate one cheerfully as the two continued on their journey. Aiko commented how cute Hikari looks while eating an apple.

The elf was no stranger to being complemented on her appearance anymore, but it still felt weird to be called cute by a magical girl that looked even more adorable.

Both the mother and daughter walked into another booth. This one was a large tent that seemed to span forever. The place housed tons of PC parts that Hikari recognized, and there were even a few pods on discount for people that wanted to buy one.

A receptionist greeted both of the girls as they walked in with a smile. “Good afternoon and welcome to Full Dive Shoppette. We have everything you might be looking for.” The woman’s eyes narrowed over the two cute girls in front of her as she took them in again. “You two…”

Hikari opened her mouth to speak, but the receptionist woman leapt forward and grabbed both of Hikari’s hands.

“We were just looking for people like you two!”

Hikari wrenched her hands away from the girl with a frown. “It’s rude to grab people you don’t know.”

“I’m sorry!” The receptionist quickly reached under her wooden podium and grabbed several coupons. “I will give you all of these. They’re for discounts in this whole venue.”

The elf took the tickets offered to her with a wry smile. “Don’t worry about it. Just be more careful next time.”

“I’m sorry,” the receptionist said, hanging her head.

Luckily for her, she got the best treatment in this kind of situation. Aiko reached her hand up to the girl’s head and started patting her. “There, there. Hikari-chan was a bit harsh.”

“Hikari-chan? I’m Miyori Sanada, but please call me Sanada.” Sanada smiled contently at the pats she received. She glanced towards the magical girl. “Um, what’s your name?”

“Hasegawa Aiko. You can call me Aiko.”

Sanada placed a finger on her chin and tilted her head. “Aiko-chan? That’s a really cute name. Both of you have cute names.”

Hikari let out a breath of air she’d been holding in. This girl is not a bad girl. She’s just clumsy.

The elf decided to ask the question she’d been holding in. “What did you mean when you said you were looking for people like us?”

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

Sanada flinched, apparently not expecting the question to come. “It’s nothing really…It’s just that my boss…Our company is looking for girls like you. They want gorgeous women who might be able to stream for our platform.”

“Your platform?”

“Yeah, we’re launching a streaming platform, and we need recruits that can springboard the process. Of course, any new recruits would receive a fair pay, even if they don’t bring people to the site, but those who receive a large viewership will be paid more accordingly. So we’ve been looking for cute cosplayers at this venue to see if they would fit the bill.”

Hikari placed a hand to her chin, considering it briefly. “And what would the hours be like if we were streaming? Would we be able to go live whenever we want?”

Sanada shook her head. “The company would require you to stream at least 20 hours a month, but they will cover everything else. The equipment will naturally be provided. If you want to stream in VR, then we could set that up as well, but for that, the company would require you to do at least 40 hours in a month. The cost to send out streaming equipment of that size will be much higher. Of course, if you already have your own equipment, then the company will pay you a bonus for your first month.”

Hikari’s eyes widened from all of this. Weren’t these really good conditions? It’s not like any of them required a job, but 20 hours a month was hardly anything. If she did one hour in a day, then she would only need to stream for 40 days. “And what about the contract duration?”

Sanada nodded. “That would only be for a year, unless you’d want to negotiate for a longer contract, but we recommend against doing that. We don’t want anyone roped into an unfair contract.”

Somehow, Hikari felt that this situation was more fantasy then going to other worlds. A streaming company that paid beautiful women to work for them and didn’t exploit them or try to give them impossible contracts? She felt that magic was more likely to exist in every world then this possibility existing.

The black-haired woman seemed to notice Hikari’s struggle and laughed. “It’s really true. If you want, I can take you to the back, and you can look over the contract yourself.”

Aiko nodded in place of the elf. “Please do that then.”

“Are you wanting to do something like this, mama?”

“It sounds like something that could be fun. Besides, imagine if all of us were to sign up for this. I bet we could flood the site with so many viewers that their servers can’t even handle it.”

Hikari gave an odd smile at the thought. She never knew that her mother had these kinds of thoughts, and she felt like she was learning something about her every minute. On the outside, she was always such a mature and calm woman. But now that she’d become a magical girl, she had become a little bratty. Though, come to think of it, she was like that with the other girls before the transformation.

Sanada looked at the two in confusion, seemingly questioning what sort of relationship the girls had. Surely, it was odd for her to see the elf call such a cute girl mama. Though, she chose not to speak on it as she led the two girls towards the back of the shop.

The room she led them to was small and comfortable, and there was another woman sitting behind a wooden desk. The woman stood up with a surprised smile on her face.

Sanada smiled at her and gestured to the other two. “Kitojima-sama, these two are Hikari-chan and Aiko-chan. They would like to review the contract if that is okay.”

“Of course,” Kitojima said, pulling two packets from a drawer in her desk. “I’ll go fetch something for us to drink in the meantime.”
