Chapter 17: From Boss to Ghosts
The boss room was an open cavern. At the center of it stood a much larger hyena, easily tripling Hikari’s height and sporting a muscular, bulgy frame. Aside from them were his three little henchmen. Hikari inspected the boss upon entry.

Even though it was a sizable leap from the lower leveled and normal [Gnolls], it still didn’t amount to much in front of the elf. It’s not even a named monster? Maybe those are further down?
She looked towards her dragon. “I will handle these guys this time.”
As she stepped forward, the boss cackled, waving around a giant club. He pointed it towards Hikari, and his henchman charged.
Maybe I should test if boss monsters respawn in the fight? Watching them charge towards her in slow motion was quite the sight. The level 20 henchman laughed in glee.
Instead of using any spells, the instant they crashed into her, Hikari swung her staff. The movement took all three of the henchmans’ heads with it, and the monsters vanished into particles soon after. Unsurprisingly, no drops followed their deaths.
As soon as the boss lost his underlings, the buff died with it. However, he didn’t attack. He spun his club around in circles and roared. The roar reverberated off the cave walls, and soon after a magic circle appeared on the ceiling, spawning three more of the little guys and bringing his buff back.
It was interesting to Hikari. This guy had no magic, but the dungeon responded to his call, summoning back his companions. She could guess how adventurers would usually battle a guy like this. Kill the henchman and attack the main one before he’s able to summon.
The boss didn’t stand on ceremony this time. He charged with his companions. One of them attempted to circle the elf, and the other two flanked her sides. At the same time, the king swung his club straight down at her head.
The tip of her staff stopped the club, deflecting the heavy object back towards the king, and then Hikari twirled it around, rendering the life of the small guys attempting to box her in.
Instead of giving the big guy another chance to summon, Hikari dashed forward, turning around her staff in the same motion and stabbing it through the boss’s chest.
The splattering blood didn’t cling to her. It fell around her in a puddle, and when she pulled the staff out, it was devoid of the red liquid. Hikari leapt backwards as the boss collided face first on the floor with a thud.
Instead of the boss particles ascending like every monster prior, they condensed down into a small brown chest with bronze trimming. From behind the elf, she could hear the faint claps of Kurayami.
“Well done, Master.”
Hikari looked at the dragon strangely. “It’s not really impressive, is it?”
Kurayami smiled. “Is it wrong to congratulate the master? Or would you prefer if I gave you a kiss? Maybe on the lips this time?”
“Hey! Stop joking around. Let’s open the chest instead.” This dragon was bad for Hikari’s heart. Though, when she looked at the dragon’s cheek she remembered the kiss she gave her. The innocent request from the dragon. Instead of continuing to look at the dragon, she opened the chest.
Inside of it there was a few gold coins, a cloak, and a ring. She investigated the cloak first.

She sighed when she read the ring [Ring of Return]. She took the one out of her inventory, looking identical to that in the chest. Are you telling me I didn’t have to buy this!?
Hikari slowly turned towards Kurayami with a pout. “Let’s go to the next floor.”
The moment she took the items from the chest it started to vanquish into particles. On the other side of the boss room, the door to the next floor had already opened into a set of stairs.
Both of them climbed down to Floor 11. Hikari was happy when she didn’t see more forests. However, these floors gave a more sinister vibe. It was swampy with a constant foggy hue, looming over the landscape. The skybox was completely dark, but Hikari’s internal clock knew that it was still day outside.
The entire place was delapidated, and the few trees spread out were in ruin. None of them had any leaves remaining. Next to the exit of the boss room there was a return crystal, so if one wanted they could go back to the first floor right after.
In terms of affinities these floors would pose no threat to the healer. Many of the monsters here were ghosts and evil spirits, not to mention the zombies of lizardmen that started crawling out of the swamp as they arrived.
The sound of their gurgles and growls reached Hikari’s ears. For these guys, she simply used a [Turn Undead: Low], and they instantly vanished into particles. As for the levels of the creatures, they all started at 25.
Zombies would drop mostly useless things like [Rotten Meat], but apparently, that could even go into certain potions, so Hikari picked them up nonetheless. The ghosts would drop [Ectoplasm]. Occasionally, they would drop different gems. As for their value, it could vary from a few silver to a few gold, depending on the type.
Gems were often used as a focus for enchantments. Hikari herself had delved into the art of enchanting in the game, but she was unsure how it would work comparatively.
With her class, these floors also became a cinch, and she found herself bulldozing through more ghosts and zombies than she could count. By the time she reached floor 20, she’d collected hundreds of gems, easily traversing the traps along the way.
