Chapter 61: Older Sister Hikari
Hikari followed Kai down an alleyway headed west. All of the dilapidated buildings looked pretty much the same in the slums. They were either sheets of metal or rotting wood. Either way, it didn’t take the group long to arrive at the destination.
The elf could only sigh at it. The shack was barely the size of a studio apartment bathroom, and the wood groaned when they stepped on the entryway. The door creaked as Kai pushed it open, and the inside was even worse than the outside.
Patches of black mold grew on the wall, and the wood was clearly rotting from water damage. There was no bathroom to speak of, so the children must have either had to go outside or elsewhere. The singular room had something that barely resembled a bed.
Some wooden planks were nailed together, creating a small platform of plywood. On top of the planks, there was a thick pelt blanket, and a small girl was nested on it wearing another smaller blanket over herself.
As the group entered, the girl slowly blinked her eyes open and squinted at them.
“Kai? Who…”
The boy placed a finger over Nona’s lips. “Shh, I brought someone who will be able to help you.”
Nona looked at Hikari with a pained expression. Sweat trickled down her forehead, but she gritted her teeth and sat up. The small girl smiled innocently at the sight of the elf.
“Pretty,” Nona said, “are you a princess?”
Hikari giggled and moved closer to the small girl. She did a brief inspection and found satisfaction in the results. Her suspicions were confirmed. It was this girl’s living conditions that brought about the current sight. The food might have been an instigator, but the moldy and rotten environment was like the constant poison. It wouldn’t be enough to simply heal the girl. If Hikari wanted to complete the request, she’d either have to take the girl with her or give her some permanent buff.
However, Hikari was reluctant to do the latter. If she buffed a random slum girl, Nona would no doubt draw attention, and Hikari doubted the nobility in this region were good people. Hikari decided to answer the girl’s question.
The elf parted Nona’s black hair from her face and nodded. “You could consider me a princess.”
Nona’s eyes sparkled. She sat up far to fast for her own good and groaned. Then she started a coughing fit.
“I told you not to sit up so fast!” Kai chastised.
Hikari paid no mind to it. Instead, she channeled mana into the hand resting on the girl’s head. “[Cure].”
The golden light radiated in the small shack as Nona was cleansed of her ailments. It was this act that further inputted the idea into Hikari’s mind about how over powered these abilities were. If someone were dying of cancer she’d be able to cure them in a second, and the light returning to Nona’s skin reinforced that idea.
Nona’s eyes widened as she looked over her previously pale skin. She inspected her hands and flipped the blanket off of her to inspect her legs. The little girl only had a linen shirt and shorts that appeared a bit too small for her. Finally, Nona looked at Hikari.
“Did you do this!? Are you an angel!?”
Amelia was the one to answer. “No, she’s actually a goddess, and she was sent here for the specific purpose of healing you.”
“A goddess!?” Nona was in disbelief. The pure child jumped up and hugged Hikari.
The sudden action surprised the elf, but she relented and hugged Nona. The elf could hear the girl’s heart pounding. She realized how much the girl must have suffered. It seemed that her tough front finally collapsed.
Hikari could feel the girl’s tears falling onto her robes. The elf carefully patted Nona’s back. “You’re okay now.”
The small girl’s sniffles answered the elf as she clung tighter.
Ah, why are children like this? Hikari could feel the tug on her heartstrings. In that moment, she decided. She would take the two kids with her…At least, until they figure out something for their situation. The elf nudged the girl away.
Nora wiped her tears away as Hikari handed her a small handkerchief she pulled from her inventory.
Kai gasped from the side. “You really did it! You saved her!”
Amelia smiled. “I told you. She’s really a goddess. You might not have heard of her, but she’s so amazing it’s become a bit of a secret.”
Hikari turned and glared at the goddess’ smug expression. Hikari wondered if she pinched Amelia’s tongue if she could pull it out completely.
“More importantly,” Hikari said, “you two cannot stay here.”
Kai gazed at her in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“You don’t want your sister to end up in the same state again do you? I am of course saying that you two will be coming with me.”
Nora’s eyes sparkled as she jumped to her feet. “Really!?”
“Really. Also, before then, I will have you two change clothes.” The elf didn’t have children’s clothes, but she did have something that was form fitting. Unfortunately, she didn’t have any masculine clothes, but she did have the next best thing. She had warrior skirts.
The elf nodded and pulled out two different outfits. One of them was from the fairy tribe—a glittering dress that fit the form of the wearer. However, the other one she could only smile wryly at. It was the least feminine skirt she had. Maybe she should just give him leather armor or something? She put away the skirt and rectified her decision.
Instead, she handed the small boy a full leather armor set. Originally, she didn’t want to give it to him because the strength of this thing was no joke.
[Heroic Fleet Fitted Set] – A form-fitted set of leather armor that greatly boosts the user’s stats.
[Heroic Fleet Leather Corset] – +100% to perception.
[Heroic Fleet Leather Greaves] – +100% to crit damage.
[Heroic Fleet Leather Pants] – +100% to agility.
[Heroic Fleet Leather Boots] – +50% increase in sneak.
[Heroic Set Bonus 4/6] – All bonuses from this set are doubled. Gain an additional +20% crit.
Though, Hikari knew they were absurd. She had no idea what these stats translated to in real life, and the third and fourth bonuses from the set was missing because she didn’t give the boy the helmet. Of course, she was more than reluctant to give a little boy the [Heroic Dagger of Piercing]. There was no doubt in Hikari’s mind that this set would likely classify as a national treasure in this world.
Kai was wowed by the magic capability of the armor. At first when he put it on it was all very loose, but it shrunk to fit his figure tight. As for the dress that Hikari gave Nona…
[Dress of the Sacred Fairy Queen] – While wearing this, the wearer is immune to [Death].
[Boots of the Sacred Fairy Queen] – The wearer of these shoes weighs less and gains [Precognition] (95% chance to sense danger before it arrives.)
[Sacred Fairy Queen Set Bonus 2/2] – The wearer gains a 500% bonus to all magic attacks. Additionally, The wearer gains a set of fairy wings and [Fly]. (These wings can be hidden at the will of the wearer)
“Wow!” Nona twirled around and inspected her twinkling dress before grabbing her wings.
Hikari could only chuckle awkwardly. She definitely went overboard, but it was fine. In a sense, she wanted all of the spectators to know that these two kids were not normal. Smart people wouldn’t risk messing with people who looked like they did. If that were the case, all nobles would really be in a bad position. It was only the stupid, the reckless, or the ones with a backing of their own who would do anything.
And to that end, Hikari still had plans to take care of this slum. Rather, she would destroy the rat’s nest, but first, she wanted to bring these two little ones to an inn. They were both in desperate need of a bath, and it just so happened that Hikari had an experienced vampire maid with her.
At the same time, the elf felt sorry for the two kids. No doubt, they were in for a harsh scrubbing if that sadist was involved, so she let them enjoy their outfits for a bit longer before finally saying something.
“I’m glad you two enjoy those, but we can’t stay here. You two will come with me, while I figure out something to do about this.”
Nona jumped and hugged Hikari again. “Thank you, sister! This dress is really pretty!”
The elf caught the girl and held her before smiling awkwardly. “Sister, huh? Do I really look like a sister?”
“Kai said that you’re an older sister…Can’t I call you that?”
The pleading eyes of the girl easily defeated the elven goddess. She turned away and coughed. “Mhmm, yes, you can call me that.”
