Chapter 400: Chapter400-The Will of the Gods
After John had applied the spices, the meat became noticeably more palatable.
Just as he was about to take a bite, he heard a voice outside the door.
He looked up to find the clan leader and the High Priest entering the room, both wearing broad smiles.
The clan leader’s smile was unremarkable—he was a robust man, and his grin didn’t seem out of place.
But the High Priest was another matter.
His wrinkled face, resembling dried orange peel, became even more creased when he smiled, making him look somewhat unsettling.
To an unknowing observer, he might even appear monstrous.
At the same time, John noticed their gazes were fixed on the food in front of him, their eyes filled with a certain longing.
John immediately understood.
With a cheerful smile, he pushed the food towards them.
“I haven’t eaten yet. Would you like to join me for breakfast?”
The clan leader grinned widely.
“Oh, we couldn’t possibly impose!”
Despite his words, the clan leader didn’t hesitate for a moment, quickly seating himself across from John.
The High Priest, while a bit more reserved, quietly took a seat beside them as well.
Vincent’s lips curled into a slight smile as he found the situation somewhat amusing.
It seemed that the people here weren’t so bad after all—or perhaps they were even a bit endearing in their own way.
When they first tasted the magical beast meat, they tried to remain composed, but as soon as the flavor hit their tongues, their expressions changed noticeably.
Both of them subtly quickened their pace, as if someone might take the food away from them.
John watched as the two of them devoured a piece of meat weighing a good five or six pounds, leaving nothing behind.
After finishing, they both looked at John with a hint of longing in their eyes.
“Divine Envoy, you’re truly amazing. The flavor is so different—could this be the power of the gods?”
For a moment, John was at a loss for words.
He wasn’t sure how to explain that it was just a matter of simple spices.
After a brief hesitation, he decided to keep it light, reaching into his storage bag to pull out more of the spices.
“This isn’t some mysterious power; it’s the power of nature. The forest around us is full of such spices. If you take the time to search, you’ll find them, and you can use them in your cooking. It’ll bring some flavor into your lives,” John explained, placing some of the spices on the table and handing them to the High Priest for closer inspection.
The High Priest’s lips curled into a smile as he touched the spices, but there was a subtle undertone in his words.
“This doesn’t seem to be a plant native to our continent. Could this be something from the realm of the gods?”
John froze for a moment, realizing that the High Priest might indeed recognize these items.
He quickly recovered and replied, “You’re right, these aren’t from this land. But I’m certain there are similar plants here. You just need to look for them, and that should be enough.”

The High Priest nodded with a smile, discreetly pocketing all the spices.
If they couldn’t find them locally, then of course they’d want to hold on to what they had—it would certainly improve their meals in the future.
John could sense that the two had come for a reason, so he asked directly, “What brings you here so early this morning?”
The two exchanged a glance before smiling warmly at John.
“We’re planning to visit the Panther Tribe this afternoon. We wondered if the Divine Envoy has anything special to prepare.”
Hearing this, John cursed inwardly.
So they did have something up their sleeves.
It was no coincidence that they were bringing this up now.
They likely had other plans in mind and wanted to test him in some way.
“I don’t mind; just let me know when you’ve decided on the time,” John responded calmly, showing that he was indifferent to the timing.
He was well aware that he was under close observation, so there was no need to say much.
He suspected they had already formed their plans.
The clan leader felt a tinge of disappointment upon hearing John’s words.
While the High Priest believed they should carefully consider the actions of this divine envoy, the clan leader was more focused on winning the upcoming battle.
Victory would secure them more resources and territory.
They had discussed this far too many times, and another delay would leave them with no room for maneuver.
“Very well, then we shall prepare to depart when the sun reaches its highest point this afternoon,” the High Priest said with a smile, casting a glance at Vincent.
“It seems the Divine Envoy is quite fond of this child. Might I ask, could you impart some of your power to him?” he inquired, a subtle suggestion in his voice.
The clan leader’s eyes lit up at this request.
Although their strength was considerable, it paled in comparison to divine power.
If his child could learn from the gods, it would change everything.
John exchanged a playful glance with Vincent but maintained his calm demeanor.
“This child indeed has great potential. If he learns well, he could eventually inherit some of this power. When that time comes, your tribe will become even more formidable.”
The leader’s heart swelled with joy upon hearing John’s words.
As a father, he naturally wished for his child to grow stronger and more capable.
Seeing how close his child was becoming with the Divine Envoy filled him with pride.
The High Priest also smiled slightly.
Regardless of who this person truly was, if their tribe’s child could gain such power, it would make all the difference.
Perhaps they could use this newfound strength to intimidate other tribes.
Or, who knows, maybe one day, their tribe would be the last one standing on this continent, making them the ultimate rulers of the world.
The thought of this possibility filled both men with excitement.
Vincent, however, felt a mix of emotions.
Since his consciousness had crossed over into this place, it meant that once they left, the original child would likely take over again.
What would happen when the people here saw the real child?
That was something they didn’t need to concern themselves with.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time to depart.
John heard a commotion outside and went to check it out, only to find a large crowd cheering excitedly.
The High Priest stood on a raised platform, his staff wrapped in symbols and held high.
In the next moment, sunlight gathered on the staff, and in an instant, the light dispersed from the spell to the surrounding runes.
The runes began to glow with a golden flash.
At the same time, John could clearly sense that the warriors had been strengthened.
So this was the purpose of the runes.
It seemed their energy was drawn from the sun, though perhaps there were other sources involved as well.
If that were the case, John wondered, would their power diminish on cloudy days or in places devoid of light?
This thought began to spin in John’s mind.
But it was just a hypothesis—he would need to find a way to test it.
