Chapter 435: Chapter435-The Perils of Confrontation
John could clearly sense that this person’s aura was becoming increasingly dangerous.
At the same time, he felt an unmistakable connection between the vines and this individual.
Something was terribly wrong—this person seemed to be transforming into something entirely different.
What was happening?
This shouldn’t be as dangerous as it appeared.
But now, it was clear that reality was diverging sharply from his expectations.
The High Priest, observing them with a gaze that had changed ever so slightly, allowed a faint, upward curve to form at the corners of his mouth.
“But, Divine Envoy, if you’re willing to tell me now, I wouldn’t mind at all. After all, we’re on the same side, aren’t we? We’re all people who can hear the voice of the gods, aren’t we?”
As he said this, his expression shifted once again, becoming more tender yet somehow more threatening.
The gentler he became, the more perilous it felt.
Everyone present could sense it—they were being watched by something sinister.
Simultaneously, they noticed that the atmosphere was growing more oppressive, like an invisible mountain pressing down on them.
The vines began to enclose them, tightening around them, as though ready to crush them the moment they moved.
Something was terribly wrong—this was not how things were supposed to be.
At the same time, the vines seemed to grow slowly, wrapping themselves around the entire wooden cabin.
They noticed that the very wooden beams of the cabin appeared to sprout similar vines.
These vines, however, were not quite the same—they were sharper, more aggressive, their thorns growing more pointed, the red light they emitted becoming more intense.
If they pretended there was nothing wrong, it would be a fool’s game.
They all knew exactly what was happening, though none wanted to admit it.
Vincent and the others saw John’s signal and immediately understood what needed to be done.
At the same time, they involuntarily drew a sharp breath.
If things were as John suspected, then the danger they faced was far greater than they had anticipated.
But now, with the situation laid bare before them, if they pretended to know nothing, it would only push them to the brink of disaster.
“So, what exactly do you want? You might as well just say it. Maybe then we can figure out what you’re really after,” John said, trying to keep his voice calm and steady.
He needed to understand what this man wanted or at least gauge his intentions.
The High Priest’s smile widened as he let out a light chuckle.
“I want to know how you can consolidate all this power into a single person. If you tell me, perhaps I’ll let you go. I know you’re not from this world, and I know how to help you leave. But all of that depends on my mood.”
At these words, the tension in the room skyrocketed.
John was right—the High Priest knew the way out, and that was the most critical point.
Everything depended on this man.

They had to find the key to breaking out of this situation.
If they continued this conversation any longer, it would spell disaster.
They didn’t have the power, nor the will, to keep playing along.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you already have enough power? Don’t forget, you’ve already absorbed the other two tribes, and they had no High Priest,” John said, stalling for time.
He knew exactly what he needed to do.
“You’re the High Priest of this place. You hold absolute power, the highest authority,” John continued, trying to keep the conversation going.
But just as he spoke, the others quietly shifted their positions.
The next moment, they felt the vines pierce their skin.
They gasped in shock as the sensation of being drained washed over them, spreading through their entire bodies.
The feeling was so intense that it left them breathless, as if their very life force was being sucked away.
At the same time, they could sense the energy being transferred to the High Priest.
Though the transfer was subtle, they could see it—the High Priest’s face was becoming more vibrant, more alive.
It was almost imperceptible, but they noticed it—every detail mattered, and they were keenly aware of all of them.
“I wonder how your tribespeople would react if they knew that their so-called holy High Priest was actually using such dark powers,” John sneered, a cold smile forming on his lips.
He could sense a power akin to that of the dark god emanating from this man.
It seemed strange to think of it this way, but it was undeniably true.
This person was not the High Priest he had imagined.
The High Priest’s power should have been radiant and sacred, yet now it felt tainted with evil.
He couldn’t even begin to describe the malevolence radiating from this man.
How could a High Priest, meant to be filled with light, now confront them with such darkness?
It was unsettling, beyond belief.
This should never have happened—none of this should have occurred.
But now, they were at a loss for words, forced to watch in horror as their bodies began to succumb to his control.
John realized that his assimilation, which had reached 97%, had suddenly stopped.
What had been a gradual, steady process had now halted completely, defying all logic.
Something was wrong—terribly wrong.
Why had it stopped?
John glanced at the High Priest, then chuckled softly.
“I could tell you, but your attitude isn’t exactly making me comfortable. If that’s the case, I don’t see any reason for us to continue this conversation.”
“If you want to make a move, go ahead. Let’s see what you’re really made of,” John said, his tone arrogant and defiant.
The High Priest’s smile slowly faded, clearly not expecting such insolence, especially under these circumstances.
“What? Do you really think I won’t kill you?”
The High Priest’s words were laced with cold menace, and as he spoke, the surrounding vines seemed to respond, growing rapidly.
It was just a simple gesture, yet it filled the air with a suffocating tension, making everyone feel as though something was about to strike them down.
They were not afraid of death, but that didn’t mean they were willing to die here, in such a way.
They had to escape, and quickly.
“Of course, I don’t think that. I know you’re powerful—I know you can kill whoever you want. But can you really kill me?”
John asked, smiling as he slowly stood up.
In his hand, the blade appeared once again.
As the Bloodthirsty Blade materialized in John’s hand, he swung it forcefully into the air.
