I'm The Devil - Chapter 169
Chapter 169: City Of Wonders
Cain woke up covered in leaves and a wood pierced directly into his heart.
He removed the wood and got up from where his body was hidden.
“Whose bastard does not look twice before striking at someone, or is he perhaps insane and kills on sight?” Cain said as he willed another pair of clothes from his shadows as they instantly appeared on him while also getting rid of the old ones in the process.
“Time to get the hell out of here, I have to go look for this City of Wonder, everyone is talking about, I bet their bloods would taste really nice,” said Cain forgetting about his descendant who killed him.
Cain wandered the earth for centuries, his mind consumed with thoughts of his solitary existence. Despite his newfound abilities as a Primordial Vampire, he found himself longing for companionship – for others like him who could understand the weight of immortality and the burden of their cursed lineage.
But try as he might, Cain could not unravel the mystery of his inability to procreate. He had sought out companionship in mortal women, hoping to father children who would share his bloodline, but each attempt ended in failure. It seemed that his curse was not only one of eternal life, but also one of eternal loneliness.
As the years passed, Cain’s frustration grew, fueling a relentless determination to uncover the secrets of how to make more of his Kind.
Cain embarked on a journey to the fabled City of Wonders. For centuries, he had heard tales of this magnificent metropolis – a place where mortals and people who call themselves Watchers coexisted in harmony, where magic and technology intertwined to create marvels beyond the imagination.
As he traversed the rugged landscapes and treacherous paths that lay between him and his destination, Cain encountered wonders and dangers alike. He crossed vast deserts and scaled towering mountains, his footsteps guided by whispers of ancient lore and forgotten legends.
At long last, after a journey fraught with peril and adventure, Cain beheld the shimmering spires of the City of Wonders on the horizon. Its majestic towers pierced the heavens, casting a radiant glow that illuminated the surrounding landscape with an otherworldly brilliance.
With a sense of awe and anticipation coursing through his veins, Cain hastened his pace, eager to explore this legendary city and uncover its mysteries. As he drew closer, he could feel the pulse of magic thrumming in the air, beckoning him forth with promises of untold wonders and boundless possibilities.
From high above, the City of Wonders sprawled across the landscape like a glittering jewel nestled amidst a sea of green. Its towering spires reached skyward, their gleaming surfaces reflecting the golden rays of the sun in a dazzling display of brilliance.
At the heart of the city, a magnificent citadel rose majestically, its walls adorned with intricate carvings and ornate embellishments that spoke of a civilization steeped in both tradition and innovation. From its lofty heights, one could survey the entirety of the city below, its labyrinthine streets and bustling marketplaces teeming with life and activity.
The streets themselves were a marvel of engineering, laid out in precise patterns and lined with verdant gardens and flowing waterways. Bridges arched gracefully over winding canals, their surfaces adorned with intricate mosaics and delicate sculptures that celebrated the city’s rich cultural heritage.
At every turn, the influence of the Watchers was evident, their celestial knowledge and divine insight woven seamlessly into the fabric of everyday life. From the grand temples dedicated to their selves to the humble workshops where artisans honed their craft, the city bore the unmistakable stamp of their guidance and wisdom.
But perhaps most striking of all were the soaring edifices that dotted the skyline, their sleek contours and gleaming surfaces a testament to the boundless creativity and ingenuity of the city’s inhabitants. Towers of glass and steel reached toward the heavens, their crystalline forms catching the light and scattering it into a myriad of colors that danced across the landscape below.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the city in a warm, golden glow, one could not help but marvel at the sheer beauty and grandeur of the City of Wonders. It was a place where mortals and immortals alike could come together to create something truly extraordinary – a testament to the enduring power of collaboration, innovation, and the boundless potential of the human spirit.
Cain traversed this City and came upon a bar and sat down while ordering for a drink.
“I want your finest drink,” said Cain while dropping a copper coin on the table.
“We don’t use that here,” said the bartender whose beauty captivated Cain and made him not pay attention to her, “hello, are you listening to what I am saying?” The woman asked waving her hands in front of Cain’s face.
Cain quickly came back to his senses when she did that and quickly took the copper coin and brought out a gold coin, “what about this?” He asked.
“We also don’t use that,” the woman said after looking at the gold coin on the table, “I can tell you are new here,” she said after observing Cain carefully.
“Yes,” Cain answered as he took the gold coin and put it back into his pocket, “so what do you use as a means of payment?” He asked her.
“We use trade tokens,” the woman explained, gesturing towards a small stack of intricately carved wooden discs nearby. “Each token represents a certain value or service within the city.”
Cain’s interest was piqued as he examined the wooden tokens, impressed by their craftsmanship and unique markings. “How does one acquire these tokens?” he inquired, eager to learn more about the city’s economic system.
“You can earn them through labor, trade, or by providing valuable services to the community,” the woman replied. “They’re also used as rewards for various tasks and challenges within the city.”
Cain nodded, absorbing the information with keen interest. “Thank you for enlightening me,” he said, returning the copper coin to the woman. “I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for these trade tokens during my time here.”
The woman smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with kindness. “You’re welcome, traveler. If you have any more questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask. The people of the City of Wonders are always happy to help newcomers like yourself.”
With a nod of gratitude, Cain bid the woman farewell and continued his exploration of the bustling city streets, his mind buzzing with the possibilities of how to acquire these wooden tokens.
