I'm The Devil - Chapter 173
Chapter 173: “The World’s First Murderer”
“You are back and this time, I hope you brought the right currency”
The woman whom Cain met when he came to a bar he chanced upon asked him as soon as she saw him walk in.
“If you meant about this,” said Cain bringing out a small stack of intricately carved wooden discs and showing it to the woman, “then yes, it was hard getting my hands on it. Had to compel a whole lot to get this”
He said placing it on the table in front of the woman, she collected it and began preparing her finest wine for Cain.
The woman’s eyes sparkled with anticipation as she counted the wooden discs, nodding approvingly at the stack Cain had brought. “Impressive,” she remarked, a hint of admiration lacing her voice. “You always manage to come through, Cain.”
Cain grinned, basking in the praise. “I do try my best,” he replied, leaning back in his chair as he watched the woman expertly pour the wine. The rich aroma filled the air, mingling with the warm ambiance of the tavern.
As the woman slid a goblet of wine across the table to Cain, he reached out and took it with a grateful nod. Bringing the rim of the goblet to his lips, he took a long sip, savoring the exquisite taste that danced on his palate.
“This is exquisite,” said Cain who never had something this good in a very long time.
“So, what brings you back to my humble establishment?” the woman inquired, her curiosity piqued as she settled into the seat opposite Cain.
“For the drink? What more reasons could I have that would bring me back here?” Said Cain still focused on his wine.
“I doubt that, I know you are new here and the most important thing to someone like you is information, and what other place than a bar to get that information”
Cain took one last chug of his wine and placed the goblet on the table with a bang, “well I do need some information but not right now, I have something else to take care of” said Cain who got up and left the bar.
“Strange, I thought he was captivated by my beauty,” she said while looking at the door leading out of her bar.
Bam!!!
The sudden sound of a loud bang startled the woman, causing her to glance around the tavern in alarm. Her eyes narrowed as she spotted the source of the disturbance—a group of rowdy patrons causing a commotion in the far corner of the room.
With a sigh, the woman rose from her seat and made her way over to the unruly group, her expression stern as she approached them. “Enough!” she declared, her voice cutting through the clamor like a knife. “You’re disturbing the peace of my establishment. Either calm down or leave.”
The patrons grumbled but ultimately heeded her warning, quieting down as they exchanged sheepish glances. Satisfied that the order had been restored, the woman returned to her spot behind the bar, casting a wary eye on the remaining customers.
As she resumed her duties, her thoughts drifted back to Cain and the enigmatic aura that surrounded him. There was something about him that intrigued her—a sense of mystery that drew her in despite her better judgment.
Lost in her musings, the woman failed to notice the figure that had slipped into the tavern unnoticed. It was a cloaked figure, their features obscured by the shadows, moving with a silent grace that sent a shiver down the woman’s spine.
Sensing a presence behind her, the woman turned around slowly, her hand instinctively reaching for the dagger concealed beneath her apron. But before she could react, the cloaked figure spoke, their voice a low, ominous whisper.
“I seek information,” they said, their words sending a chill down the woman’s spine. “Information about a man named Cain.”
The woman’s heart skipped a beat as she locked eyes with the mysterious stranger, a sense of foreboding washing over her. She knew then that Cain’s troubles were far from over, and that darker forces were at play in the mortal realm. And as she faced the cloaked figure before her, she realized that she was about to become embroiled in a dangerous game—one that could spell doom for them all.
“I don’t know who that is,” she said hoping the cloaked figure would let her go.
“[Tsk, Tsk] That’s not something that should be coming from you, given the fact that he just left here a while ago,” said the cloaked figure who unveiled herself shocking the owner of the bar.
The owner of the bar froze in place, her eyes widening in disbelief as she finally recognized the voice and why she found it familiar. Slowly, she turned to face the cloaked figure, her expression a mixture of shock and confusion.
“Celeste?” she whispered, her voice barely audible above the din of the tavern. “What are you doing here? And why are you asking about Cain?”
Celeste lowered her hood, revealing her striking features beneath the cloak. Her eyes gleamed with a steely resolve as she met the gaze of the bar owner, her lips set in a firm line.
“I cannot divulge the details, but suffice it to say that Cain’s actions have attracted the attention of the celestial council,” Celeste replied cryptically. “We need to find him before it’s too late.”
The bar owner nodded, her mind racing as she processed Celeste’s words. She knew all too well the consequences of crossing paths with the celestial council, and the danger that Cain’s presence posed to them all.

“Of course,” she said, her voice tinged with concern. “But why are you here? Why come to me for information?”
Celeste’s expression softened slightly, a hint of vulnerability flickering in her eyes. “Because you are the only one I trust,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “And you are the only one who has conversed with him since he arrived in the city of Wonders”
“I don’t know anything about him, only met him on two occasions and it has always been brief. All I know is that he is new and can be weird sometimes” she said pouring her Nephilim friend her favorite drink.
“So you have not said anything to each other apart from him coming to have drinks at your place?”
“Yeah, and the drink part is only once. The first time he came, he brought the wrong currency with him and I heard to tell him to go back after telling him what we use here” she said.
Celeste frowned when she heard about Cain bringing the wrong currency. She found it strange because everyone in the mortal realm should be using the new currency, their parents made sure of that unless Cain was some kind of caveman who had no contact with the outside world, then Cain might not been from this Realm.
She quickly looked at Mabel, the owner of the bar, “Can I see what kind of currency was that?” She asked hoping Mabel still had it so that she could use it to pry the background of Cain and find out where he comes from.
“Sure, this is it,” said Mabel handing out the silver and gold coins Cain gave to her.
As Celeste held the coin in her hand, she closed her eyes and focused her mind, channeling her magic into the object to reveal its secrets. A soft glow emanated from the coin as images began to swirl before her, revealing glimpses of its previous owner’s past.
What she saw sent a shiver down her spine.
The images unfolded like scenes from a dark and twisted tale. She witnessed Cain’s descent into madness, his jealousy and rage consuming him until he committed the ultimate act of betrayal: the murder of his own brother, Abel. She watched as Cain was banished from his father’s house, cursed to wander the earth as a penance for his crimes.
But the darkness did not consume him entirely. Instead, Cain embraced it, harnessing its power to become something more than human. He became the world’s first vampire, feeding on the blood of the innocent to sustain his immortal existence.
Celeste saw how Cain’s thirst for vengeance knew no bounds. He unleashed untold horrors upon Seth’s family, commanding wild animals to attack and destroy everything in their path. And as the carnage unfolded, Cain reveled in the chaos, reveling in the pain and suffering he inflicted upon others.
Now, it seemed that day had come. Celeste knew that Cain’s awakening spelled trouble for them all. His thirst for power and revenge had not diminished, and she feared what havoc he might wreak upon the world once more.
But she also knew that they could not allow him to succeed. They had to find him and stop him, before it was too late. She opened her eyes and looked at Mabel who was waiting for her to spill out what she saw but the only thing that she could say was;
