I'm The Devil - Chapter 194
Chapter 194: Semjaza
Seraphina reached the center of the hall, where the council members were already assembled, their attention riveted by her abrupt entrance. She took a deep breath, composing herself before addressing them.
“Honorable members of the Celestial Council,” she began, her voice steady but urgent, “I come bearing grave news about the builders of the tower. This morning, I received reports that several of them can no longer understand each other. Their speech has become incomprehensible, turning into a babble of words that make no sense.”
Gasps of shock and concern rippled through the council. High Sage Elara, a figure of wisdom and authority, leaned forward, her brow furrowed. “What could have caused this, Seraphina? Have there been any signs of illness or other afflictions?”
Seraphina shook her head. “There are no symptoms of illness. Physically, they seem fine, but their ability to communicate has been completely disrupted. This happened suddenly, and they are now in a state of confusion and frustration, unable to coordinate their work.”
At that moment, Lord Aurelius, the leader of the Celestial Council, stepped forward. His presence commanded attention, and the room fell silent. “I was at the site when this happened,” he said, his voice clear and steady. “I am unaffected, but I witnessed the chaos firsthand. The builders are in utter disarray, unable to follow instructions or understand one another. It’s as if a curse has befallen them.”
Councilor Thane, known for his pragmatic approach, interjected, “Could it be some form of sabotage? Some oppose the tower’s construction.”
Seraphina responded, “That is a possibility we cannot ignore. However, without more information, it’s difficult to determine whether this is a natural affliction or a deliberate act.”
The council members exchanged worried glances. High Sage Elara looked back at Seraphina, her expression grim. “We must act swiftly. Seraphina, gather our best linguists and enchanters. Investigate every possible cause, be it magical or otherwise. Ensure that the affected builders receive support, and find a way to restore their ability to communicate. The completion of the tower is crucial, but not at the expense of their well-being.”
With a resolute nod, Seraphina turned to leave, her mind already racing with plans. The fate of the builders and the success of the tower now depended on her swift and decisive actions.
“I’m afraid that won’t be necessary, you can’t come up with any solution to help the builders”
The Council members all turned to look at the figure who spoke and was surprised to see who it was.
Lord Aurelius immediately bowed down followed by the others, “Welcome Supreme Lord Semjaza”
They all said in unison to the man who turned out to be one of the watchers and also their leader who came to Earth and diverted the humans from the ways of God.
Teaching them the secrets of Heaven, granting them the knowledge that should take them millennials to attain in a matter of hundreds of years leads them to the age where magic and technology blend together.
Now he knew just how much they messed up when Gabriel came to deliver the message from their creator.
He regretted how he did not use his authority back then as the leader and stopped the rest of the watchers from coming down to Earth.
But he also knew that it was already too late to regret now and all he had to do was figure out a way to save his children from their impending doom.
“What brings you to our territory, Supreme Lord Semjaza?” Lord Aurelius asked as it is not every day they get a visit from the watchers.
Semjaza simply shook his head while taking a seat and offered to him, “I came here merely to check up on you guys when I noticed you are already in trouble which means that it has already begun” he said with a solemn look.
Seraphina frowned when she heard that and she was not alone, all of them present frowned as they knew that things were about to go south.
Lord Aurelius accepted the offered seat beside Semjaza, his expression reflecting a mixture of concern and curiosity. “What do you mean, it has already begun?” he asked, his voice edged with apprehension.
Semjaza sighed heavily, his gaze sweeping over the council members. “The signs are clear,” he began, his voice grave. “Humanity has begun to spiral down a dangerous path, one that could lead to their destruction. The disruption among the builders is just the beginning. It is a symptom of a deeper imbalance that we, as watchers, have inadvertently created.”
Seraphina’s frown deepened as she listened intently. “What can we do to stop it?” she asked, her voice tinged with urgency.
“There is no stopping it, it is the will of the creator, we just have to wait for it but that’s not the same for you lots, you are also beings that should not have been born which means the purging will also affect you which is why I am here to make sure you survive”
Semjaza’s words hung heavy in the air, sending a chill down Seraphina’s spine. The weight of his revelation settled over the council like a dark cloud, each member grappling with the implications of their existence.
Lord Aurelius furrowed his brow, his expression a mix of disbelief and resignation. “Are you saying that we are also subject to the purging?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Semjaza nodded solemnly. “Yes,” he replied, his gaze steady. “As beings born of the watchers, you are not exempt from the consequences of our actions. The purging will affect all who have strayed from the path set forth by the Creator.”
Seraphina felt a knot form in her stomach as she absorbed Semjaza’s words. The realization that their very existence was in jeopardy filled her with a profound sense of dread. But alongside the fear, there was also a flicker of determination.
“So what should we do know, wait for our death?”
