I'm The Devil - Chapter 199
Chapter 199: Tower Of Babel
Elsewhere
Cain and his seven progenies gathered in the dimly lit cavern that served as their refuge. The air was thick with anticipation, and a sense of unease permeated the space as they discussed the latest developments in their world.
Cain, still bearing the mark that set him apart from all others, looked over his vampire progeny with a mixture of pride and resolve. Each of them had inherited a fragment of his defiant spirit, a trait that had both protected and cursed them throughout the centuries.
“Lord Cain,” said Alaric, the second of his progeny, his voice low but steady. “The Celestial Council has been unusually quiet. They have withdrawn their oversight, leaving us to our own devices. But now, the giants grow bolder by the day, spreading fear and chaos. What are we to do?”
Cain’s eyes, hardened by centuries of suffering and survival, narrowed as he considered the question. “The Council’s absence is both a blessing and a curse,” he replied. “While we are free from their scrutiny, it also means that something is going on that has made them withdraw from their pursuit and go into hiding, which is something that should not be possible given that they were hell-bent on putting me away for good. So what we should do is find out what is going on that made the council take that decision and also deal with the issues of the giants’ rampage.”
A murmuring of agreement spread among his progeny, each one bearing the weight of their cursed existence. The youngest, Thalia, clenched her fists, her youthful impatience evident. “We should fight them,” she said fiercely. “Show them that we are not to be trifled with.”
Cain shook his head slowly. “That would have been the better option, but we don’t know what we are facing right now and we can’t go in blind.”
His words carried the wisdom of countless years, and even the fiery Thalia had to concede to his experience. They fell into a thoughtful silence, each lost in their own thoughts of how to navigate the perilous times ahead.
Finally, it was Lysandra, another of Cain’s progeny, who broke the silence. “What about the Tower that was being built? I heard it was stopped because of miscommunication among the builders. Maybe we could go take a look and see what its intended purpose was.”
Cain nodded thoughtfully at Lysandra’s suggestion, his mind already turning over the possibilities. “The Tower of Babel,” he mused, his gaze distant. “Yes, there may be something there worth investigating. If the builders’ sudden inability to communicate was the reason for its halt, it could be a sign of divine intervention. Perhaps there’s something within the Tower that could explain the Celestial Council’s actions or give us a means to counter the giants.”
Mabel, the eldest of the progeny, leaned forward, her eyes sharp with interest. “I can scout the Tower and gather information,” she offered. “If there’s something there, I’ll find it.”
Cain gave a nod of approval. “Good. But take Alaric with you. The Tower is likely under watch, and you’ll need someone to cover your back.”
Alaric inclined his head in agreement, his expression resolute. “We’ll leave at once,” he said, his tone firm.
Dorian, ever the strategist, interjected. “While they investigate the Tower, the rest of us should gather intelligence on the giants’ activities. We need to know their movements and plans if we are to counter them effectively.”
Cain turned to Dorian, appreciating his foresight. “Agreed. Thalia, Balthazar, Isolde, and Lysandra, you will remain here and coordinate with our spies among the humans. We must be ready for any attack. Use all the resources at our disposal.”
The youngest, Thalia, who had been brimming with the urge to fight, now directed her energy toward the task at hand with newfound determination. “We’ll make sure our scouts are everywhere,” she vowed.
As plans were made and roles assigned, a sense of purpose filled the cavern. Each vampire knew their task, and the weight of their responsibility settled upon them like a mantle. They were not just survivors; they were strategists, warriors, and seekers of truth.
Cain watched his progeny with pride. They had been with him through centuries of hardship, bound by blood and fate. Now, they faced an uncertain future, but they faced it together. Around them, the cavern bustled with the activities of other vampires under their command, each one contributing to the strengthening of their defenses and the gathering of intelligence.
Mabel and Alaric prepared for their journey to the Tower, gathering supplies and donning cloaks to shield them from the eyes of both the giants and any celestial beings that might be lurking. With a final nod from Cain, they set off into the night, their forms soon swallowed by the darkness.
Tower of Babel
The Tower of Babel rose from the earth like a colossal monument to human ambition, its towering spires piercing the sky with a blend of ancient mystique and futuristic innovation. Constructed from a fusion of enchanted stone and shimmering metal, its surface pulsed with an ethereal glow, hinting at the powerful magic that lay within.
At its base, intricate runes were etched into the stone, their glowing glyphs weaving a tapestry of arcane energy that hummed with otherworldly power. The air crackled with static electricity, and tendrils of shimmering light danced along the Tower’s surface, casting an enchanting aura that drew the eye.
Now Mabel and Alaric stood at the entrance of this Tower and marveled at the wonder and craftsmanship of the builders.
“Well, they certainly outdid their selves with this one,” said Mabel with a hint of envy in her eyes while remembering the time she was once a human who could not wield magic and practice the Arcane Art which was why when she heard about the prospect of immortality and power, she did not hesitate even for a second to grab it.
Alaric tapped her out of her thoughts as they had a lot of work to do, “we don’t have time to dwindle, we are here on a mission, so we should get back at it” he said to Mabel who apologized for her spacing out.
“I’m sorry, you are right, let’s go on with it then”
With that, they both entered the tower to see what was so magical about it.
