I'm The Devil - Chapter 271
Chapter 271: Angel Of Death 1
Amaterasu stood at the edge of a small clearing, her gaze shifting from the distant village to the feline goddess perched on a tree branch nearby. The sun’s soft rays shimmered around her, almost amplifying her divine presence. She turned her golden eyes toward Bast, her voice gentle but tinged with curiosity.
“The people here worship your pantheon, Bast,” she remarked, attempting to stir conversation.
Bast remained still, her lithe form balanced effortlessly on the tree limb. The Egyptian goddess’s eyes were focused, scanning the horizon with a look of determination, her feline features betraying no emotion. She gave a half-hearted response, her tone indifferent, “Yeah, I can see that.”
There was no joy, no pride in her words. The adoration of these mortals meant little to her right now. All that mattered was locating Lucifer, finding him, and being by his side. Her cat-like pupils narrowed, flickering with focus as she strained to sense his presence.
Amaterasu’s lips twitched slightly, a mix of amusement and irritation playing on her face. She had tried to engage in small talk, but clearly, Bast wasn’t interested. Before she could reply, Aphrodite’s airy voice broke through, filled with playful mischief.
“Geez, she was just trying to strike up a conversation,” Aphrodite teased, her form shimmering as she shifted appearances with ease. One moment, she was draped in silks as a mortal beauty, and the next, she shimmered with ethereal light, an image of divine seduction. Her body language was light and whimsical as she posed in front of a reflective pool, twisting from one form to another, clearly enjoying her game of disguise.
Bast’s ears twitched, though her gaze remained fixed forward. Her voice came out sharp and unbothered, “Would you just keep quiet? I’m trying to concentrate here.”
Aphrodite’s playful expression faltered for a brief second before she rolled her eyes dramatically, muttering under her breath, “Someone woke up on the wrong side of the tree this morning.” She shot a look at Amaterasu, as if hoping for some backup, but the sun goddess remained silent, watching the interaction with a cool detachment.
Bast’s tail flicked lazily behind her as she ignored Aphrodite’s antics. She crouched lower on the branch, her nose twitching slightly as she attempted to zero in on Lucifer’s energy. There was an intensity to her stance, the way her muscles coiled, her entire being committed to the task at hand. She wasn’t here for banter or idle distractions; her focus was solely on him.
Meanwhile, Hestia stood a little way off, her hands clasped in front of her, eyes flicking between the bickering goddesses with a long, tired sigh. She wasn’t one for arguments or petty squabbles, and this whole ordeal was beginning to wear on her. She adjusted the shawl over her shoulders, her eyes soft but filled with a quiet resolve.
“At this rate, we’ll never find him,” Hestia murmured under her breath, her voice a quiet exhale of exasperation. The warmth of her aura was like a calm flame, steady and patient, but even her patience had limits. She was not one to rush things, but standing here watching Bast and Aphrodite quarrel while Lucifer remained out of reach was testing her.
Aphrodite, noticing Hestia’s weary look, huffed dramatically. “I’m just trying to lighten the mood,” she said, her form now shifting into something resembling a mortal scholar, glasses perched delicately on her nose. She struck a pose, as if trying to seem deep and introspective. “I mean, come on, a little fun never hurt anyone, right?”
Hestia gave a faint smile but shook her head. “Fun can wait. Let’s focus on the task. The longer we stay here, the further away Lucifer could be.” Her voice was calm but firm, as if she were gently trying to herd the others back on track.
Bast’s ears twitched again at the mention of Lucifer’s name, and her body tensed slightly. The thought of him slipping further from her grasp ignited a flash of impatience. She leapt down from the tree in one fluid, graceful motion, landing lightly on her feet like a cat. Without sparing a glance toward Aphrodite, she started to walk ahead, her steps purposeful.
“Then maybe you should stop talking and help me find him,” Bast snapped, her voice low and sharp. There was a hint of agitation, but beneath it, a deeper worry—the fear of losing him. The goddess of cats was not one to show her emotions freely, but they were bubbling just beneath the surface.
Aphrodite raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a smirk, but she didn’t push further. Even she knew when it was time to let the teasing go. She sighed and shrugged, her form returning to its radiant, divine state, soft waves of golden hair falling around her shoulders. “Fine, fine,” she muttered, tossing a glance toward Amaterasu. “Seems like someone’s a bit on edge.”
Elsewhere
Lucifer reclined lazily on the rooftop of Pharaoh’s palace, the cool breeze sweeping through the desert night, carrying with it the scent of the Nile and distant incense burning in the temples below. His raven-black hair, slightly tousled, shifted with the wind as he gazed up at the stars. A soft smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, eyes half-lidded in peaceful enjoyment.
But suddenly, his expression faltered—just for a moment. His wives. He could feel them. The faint yet unmistakable presence of their divine energies creeping closer to the mortal realm, like a ripple through the atmosphere. His brow furrowed in irritation, but then it quickly dissolved into a mischievous grin.
“Ah, so they missed me already,” Lucifer murmured to himself, his voice smooth, dripping with amusement. “Couldn’t even wait for me to return to the God Plane, huh?” He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, golden eyes narrowing with playful malice. “Well then… if they can’t wait, perhaps I’ll make them work for it. A little game, just to keep things… interesting.”
He was already scheming, mind racing with thoughts of how to toy with his wives once they arrived. He hadn’t had fun in a while, and if anyone knew how to turn a reunion into a chase, it was him.
But before Lucifer could even take the first step in setting his little plan into motion, something in the air shifted. His senses tingled. His eyes grew sharp, pupils narrowing like a predator on alert. He felt it. The presence of another divine being descending to earth, a power so familiar and yet slightly unexpected.
He straightened his posture, eyes gleaming as he extended his awareness across Egypt, spreading his senses like a net. And then, he saw it. The people of Israel, hurriedly making marks of animal blood across their doorways, preparing for something—something significant.
A realization dawned on him, his lips curving into a sinister smile. “So… it’s that time,” he whispered, his voice low and contemplative. His golden eyes darkened as they swept across the land. “Which means the one coming…”
Before he could finish his thought, a presence appeared behind him—silent, but heavy with authority.
A familiar voice spoke, deep and resonant. “Is I, brother.”
