I'm The Devil - Chapter 278
Chapter 278: Going Back to God Plane
The cool twilight air crackled faintly as Lucifer appeared within the dimly lit chambers of a sanctuary he just made, the shadows bending and twisting to welcome him. His sharp gaze swept the room, taking in its quiet grandeur—walls adorned with ancient symbols, flickering lanterns casting a warm glow on the marble floors. But there was no peace in his movements. His steps were measured, precise, the faint clink of his boots echoing as he strode forward, his long cloak trailing behind him like a shroud of night.
He stopped in the center of the room and exhaled slowly, his jaw tightening. He tilted his head back, eyes closing briefly as he felt the presence of his wives stir around him, their energies brushing against him like whispers in the dark.
One by one, they arrived.
The first was Aphrodite, her arrival marked by the faint scent of roses and the soft shimmer of golden light. She emerged gracefully from the shadows, her form radiant and ethereal, a vision of beauty that transcended mortal comprehension. Her gown flowed like liquid starlight, each step she took a dance, her bare feet silent against the cold stone.
She paused before Lucifer, her luminous blue eyes searching his face, her full lips curving into a faint, knowing smile. “You look troubled,” she said softly, her voice like a melody, soothing yet probing. Her delicate fingers reached out, brushing against his arm, a gentle comfort that belied the tension simmering beneath her perfect exterior.
Amaterasu was next, her arrival heralded by a burst of sunlight that briefly filled the chamber before fading into a warm, golden glow. She stepped forward with quiet grace, her presence regal yet grounding. Dressed in flowing robes of crimson and gold, her raven-black hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face of serene strength.
Her dark, almond-shaped eyes fixed on Lucifer, their depths filled with concern and restrained frustration. “Lucifer,” she said, her voice steady and clear, like the chime of a temple bell. “I felt the shift in the balance. What happened?”
Bast appeared silently, materializing from the shadows like a specter. Her midnight robes swirled around her as she stepped forward, her movements languid and feline, yet lacking their usual confidence. Her golden eyes darted to Lucifer, then flicked away, betraying the unease she tried to mask.
She crossed her arms over her chest, her claws tapping lightly against the fabric of her sleeves. “I suppose you’ve come to reprimand me,” she said, her voice low, her tone laced with defiance but weighed down by guilt. Her gaze met his briefly, a flicker of something vulnerable flashing behind her sharp exterior.
Hestia arrived last, her presence gentle and unassuming yet unshakably steady. She stepped into the chamber with measured steps, her simple, cream-colored robes swaying softly around her. Her auburn hair was tied back neatly, and her warm brown eyes radiated quiet wisdom.
She approached Lucifer without hesitation, her expression calm but laced with quiet sadness. “I see the storm in your heart, Lucifer,” she said, her voice soft, like the crackle of a hearth on a cold night. “Tell us what troubles you.”
Lucifer turned slowly, his dark eyes sweeping over each of them in turn. There was a heaviness in his gaze, a mixture of weariness and determination. He drew a deep breath, his shoulders rising and falling as he spoke.
“You can’t stay here,” he said, his voice firm but carrying an edge of resignation. “Not after what’s been done.”
Aphrodite tilted her head, her golden curls catching the light as her brows knit together. “This is about Bast, isn’t it?” she asked, though the question was rhetorical. Her tone was gentle but tinged with curiosity.
Amaterasu stepped closer, her piercing gaze narrowing slightly. “What exactly did she do, Lucifer?” she pressed. “And why does it warrant us leaving the mortal plane?”
Lucifer’s eyes flicked to Bast, who shifted uncomfortably under his scrutiny. She let out a soft huff, her lips curving into a wry smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “I may have… intervened,” she said, her voice light but strained. “Encouraged Pharaoh to take back what was his. The consequences were… significant.”
Amaterasu’s gaze hardened, her expression tightening in disapproval. “You meddled,” she said bluntly, her tone sharp.
Hestia stepped forward, her hands clasped before her as she regarded Bast with quiet concern. “And now, the balance is broken,” she said softly. “Is that why we must leave?”
Lucifer nodded, his jaw clenching as his gaze swept over them all. “The mortal plane will no longer tolerate us,” he said, his voice low. “The God of their people, my father is not one to let such transgressions slide. Staying here would mean war—one we cannot win.”
Bast lowered her gaze, her lips pressing into a thin line. “I didn’t mean for it to go this far,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.
Aphrodite sighed, stepping closer to Bast and placing a delicate hand on her shoulder. “We’ve all made mistakes,” she said gently. “But Lucifer’s right. We can’t remain here.”
Amaterasu folded her arms, her expression unreadable as she looked away, her jaw tight. “Then it’s decided,” she said curtly, her tone masking the unease in her voice.
Hestia stepped to Lucifer’s side, her warm presence grounding him. “Where will we go?” she asked quietly.
Lucifer turned toward the center of the chamber, his gaze distant. “Back to the God Plane,” he said. “It’s time we returned to where we belong.”
The four women exchanged glances, their expressions ranging from resignation to quiet determination. Then, one by one, they stepped closer to Lucifer, their movements synchronized by an unspoken bond.
Lucifer raised a hand, the air crackling with energy as a portal began to form—a swirling vortex of light and shadow. He glanced back at them, his dark eyes softening. “Let’s go,” he said simply, his voice steady.
With that, they stepped into the portal together, their figures dissolving into the ether, leaving the mortal plane behind—and the chaos they had sown—to face whatever awaited them in the realm of the gods.
