Chapter 105: You All Failed 2
As the door closed behind Vincent with a heavy thud.

No one in the room said anything for a while.

The remaining three Grayson brothers stood quietly, not daring to shift their weight or breathe too loudly.

The air in the study felt heavier now, as if disappointment itself had settled over the room.

Mr. Grayson leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping slowly on the polished wood of his desk.

He was tired because he had to go talk to the family elders and sacrifice a lot of stuff just for them to take care of the company that his eldest son had ruined.

And when he said that Vincent would be removed from the position of succession, it was not his decision, but something the elders of the family decided to do after this mess.

However, from the looks of it, none of his sons might inherit the position.

He didn’t look up as he spoke again.

“Thomas.”

The second son straightened immediately. He was taller than Vincent, leaner, with sharp eyes and a proud jawline.

He wore a perfectly pressed navy-blue uniform—decorative, not earned—and a pin with the family crest that gleamed a little too brightly.

“Yes, Father,” he said.

Mr. Grayson finally looked up. His gaze was flat. Cold.

“You were assigned to Liliana Nocturne. A high-ranking military commander. One of the most decorated women in the field. So tell me.”

He leaned forward slowly.

“What made you think trying to flirt with her in uniform, at a classified war memorial, was a good idea?”

Thomas didn’t flinch. But he swallowed once, his throat tightening. “She seemed… receptive, and I thought she might be into me.”

“Receptive, and into you?” Mr. Grayson repeated. “You walked into a restricted military ceremony uninvited.

Dressed like a showpiece. Then, tried to initiate personal contact during a silent honor event.”

Thomas shifted slightly. “I thought I could make a stronger impression, and as I do not get to see her often, I had no choice.”

“You did,” Mr. Grayson said. “You made such an impression that the Global Defense Network had to step in and apologize to her on your behalf.”

Thomas winced.

“You embarrassed us on an international stage,” Mr. Grayson said. “And you insulted a woman who commands more military respect than entire nations.”

“I didn’t know the full scope of her background,” Thomas admitted.

Mr. Grayson’s voice dropped. “You didn’t know?”

“I did research—”

“Clearly not enough.” His father cut him off sharply. “Liliana Nocturne commands one of the five most elite superpower legions on Earth.

Her units have never had more than a 1.2% casualty rate, her tactics are studied by generals, her judgment is trusted more than some prime ministers.”

He slapped a folder down on the desk.

Inside were pictures, reports, and surveillance stills. One showed Thomas standing far too close to Liliana at the memorial site, his hand just a few inches from hers.

Another showed her back turned, completely ignoring him. Another scene shows Thomas quietly being escorted away by uniformed security.

“She didn’t even acknowledge you,” Mr. Grayson said, voice flat. “She saw you as background noise.

And what did you do? You still continued with your antics, I mean, good thing this was the first time, or else you would be labeled as a licking dog by others, which would have been the death of your reputation and massive damage to the family.”

Thomas stiffened. “I didn’t realize she’d be so cold.”

“She’s a commander, not a cocktail hostess,” his father snapped. “And you approached her like some spoiled cadet trying to score points and hoped she would respond?”

Mr. Grayson’s hands gripped the desk harder.

“You were supposed to build respect. Help her unit with supplies. Establish a partnership. What did you do instead?”

Thomas stayed silent.

Mr. Grayson answered for him.

“You tried to impress her with war stories you never lived. Lied about connections you didn’t have.

Then offered her a deal that insulted her command, and still thought she would be impressed with that?”

Thomas looked down. “I wanted to open a channel.”

“You opened a disaster,” his father said. “You didn’t just fail to gain her trust. You made our family look like arrogant fools.”

He stood up from his chair.

“She filed an official complaint to the Military Relations Board,” he continued. “Do you understand how close we were to being blacklisted from all military business? The only reason we weren’t is because she didn’t want to waste the paperwork.”

That made Thomas’s face go pale.

“She didn’t file the complaint because she was angry,” Mr. Grayson said. “She filed it because she didn’t want us trying again.

She wants us to be recorded. On file. In case we try to approach her a second time.”

He walked around the desk slowly, stopping just in front of his son.

“You didn’t just fail. You made us into a problem.”

Thomas’s voice dropped. “I’ll fix it.”

Mr. Grayson didn’t smile. He didn’t laugh.

He just stared.

“You won’t,” he said. “You’re off this project too.”

Thomas’s breath hitched. “But—”

“You’re done.”

“But we can still—”

“You. Are. Done.”

Thomas’s hands clenched into fists, but he held his tongue.

Mr. Grayson turned and walked back to his desk.

“You’ve embarrassed us enough,” he said. “You’ll stay out of military affairs from now on. No more contacts. No more outreach. Not a single message to anyone with a rank above yours.”

Thomas’s eyes burned, but he nodded stiffly. “Understood.”

Mr. Grayson didn’t even look at him. “Get out.”

Thomas hesitated for just a second.

Then turned and left.

The door shut behind him with a soft click.

The remaining two brothers stood in silence.

Mr. Grayson rubbed his temples for a long moment.

“Two down,” he muttered. “And still no progress. One tried to buy power. The other tried to charm it. Neither of them understood what they were dealing with.”

He looked up slowly.

His gaze fixed on the third son now.

The one who had been assigned to Isabella.
