78: We Talk To Them Like A Family Would 78: We Talk To Them Like A Family Would Liliana looked toward Elowen.

“So… what are your plans now that the war’s over?” Elowen leaned back slightly, one leg crossed over the other, her expression calm but focused.

“Rest, first.

For the people.

They’ve been through enough.” No one interrupted.

“The armies are tired.

The cities are half-empty.

We need to stabilize before we rebuild,” she said.

“And that means entering a low-key phase-no public marches, no large-scale expansion.

Just slow, steady regrowth.” Lilith nodded once.

“Makes sense.

Quiet strength.

Rebuild the foundation before showing the world your cards again.” “Exactly,” Elowen said.

“We’re not ready to flaunt victory yet.

It wasn’t clean.

Too many lost their homes, their families, and their future.

What the elven realm needs isn’t parades-it’s healing.” Isabella rested her elbow on the couch’s edge, head propped on her palm.

“And how do you plan to do that?” “Start small,” Elowen replied.

“I’ve already put a few governors in place, trusted ones who know what to do and make sure to take care of what they were assigned.

I’m pulling back all units from extended patrols.

And the first phase is focused on livelihood, clean water, stable food, and safe housing so that the elven population can feel at peace again.” Liliana’s brow lifted.

“No military expansion?” “There will be,” Elowen said.

“But not right away.

First, we need to rebuild morale.

That means reopening schools, creating real jobs, and making sure the next generation grows up with hope, not fear.” She paused before adding, “After that, we’ll focus on restoring the traditional military branches.

The iconic divisions we lost during the war-they need to come back.

Properly trained.

Properly led.” “I like that,” Seraphina said, her tone quiet but firm.

Elowen nodded.

“I’m already working on plans for a proper army.

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

Not the scattered rebel groups we had to rely on during the fighting.

I’m talking about a real force-structured, disciplined, and stable.” “And the veterans?” Lilith asked.

“Some of them can be retrained,” Elowen replied.

“If they’re willing to adapt to a new system.

If not… We’ll give them a peaceful sendoff and let them rest.” “And the old families?” Lilith asked.

“They’re being watched,” Elowen said.

“Some have returned hoping for favor, but I’m not interested in rebuilding the old world.

I want something better.” No one disagreed with that.

“And the population?” Isabella asked.

“You mentioned the cities were half-empty.” “They are,” Elowen said.

“The war hit hard.

The birth rate dropped, and migration drained the borders.

But now that there’s peace, I’m creating incentive programs.

Care packages for new families.

Safe zones for rebuilding villages.

And better laws for marriage and protection.” “You’re not going to push people to have more children, right?” Liliana asked with a flat tone.

“Of course not,” Elowen said.

“That’s how tyrants rule.

We’ll do it the right way.

Give people peace, stability, and purpose-let nature do the rest.” Lilith gave a rare small smile.

“You’ve grown stronger.” “I had to,” Elowen replied.

“I wasn’t planning to lead a realm when I left the girls here.

But now that I’ve reclaimed it, I need to make sure it doesn’t fall again.” Seraphina glanced sideways.

“And the twins?

When will you tell them all of this?” “They’ll know everything soon,” Elowen said.

“They’ve grown into amazing young women.

And I’ll never hide the truth from them again.

But for now… I want them to enjoy this part of their life.” “They deserve it,” Lilith said.

Elowen gave a soft nod.

“And so does Ethan.” Just as she said it, a distant sound rolled in from outside-tires against the stone path.

A car.

They all glanced toward the window instinctively.

None of them needed to ask who it was.

Guests didn’t arrive here by car-not when they had teleportation circles and warp gates.

But Ethan?

Ethan still used a car.

Always had.

Liliana stood up first.

“That’s them.” “Finally,” Isabella muttered, brushing off her legs.

“It’s about time.” “They’re early,” Elowen noted.

“No,” Lilith corrected, standing slowly.

“They’re right on time.” Seraphina adjusted her robe belt.

“Alright.

Time to get serious.” “I already sent the message,” Lilith said.

“Told them we wanted a proper talk.

I didn’t say what it was about.” Isabella crossed her arms.

“So what exactly are we going to say when they walk in?” Elowen looked thoughtful.

“We don’t drop everything on them.

We start with who we are, what this crest means… and what it could mean for Ethan.

The rest will come later, when it needs to.” “I don’t want to overwhelm him,” Seraphina added.

“But he deserves something real.

No more dodging.” Lilith nodded.

“We focus on clarity.

Not confusion.

This isn’t a confession-it’s a conversation.” “And we include the twins this time,” Elowen said.

“They’ve earned it.” “They’ve already started bonding with him,” Liliana added.

“If we keep leaving them out, it’ll only make things worse.” Isabella sighed and glanced at the door.

“I hope they’re ready.” “They won’t be,” Elowen said with a small smile.

“But that’s okay, no one in their position would be.” The sound of doors opening outside cut through the quiet.

Two soft thuds-then footsteps.

The twins are quick and light.

Then another-Ethan’s.

Steady, calm, unhurried.

Their laughter was faint but clear.

They were in a good mood.

“Let them have that moment,” Seraphina said softly.

“They’re happy.” “For now,” Lilith agreed.

Elowen stood up, brushing invisible wrinkles from her skirt.

“We don’t hide from them like this.” “No,” Lilith said.

“We talk to them like a family would.” There was a pause as everyone moved into place.

Liliana straightened her jacket.

Isabella fluffed her hair and leaned one arm on the stair railing.

Seraphina stood near the center of the room, spine tall, eyes calm.

Lilith took her usual spot by the window.

Elowen moved near the entrance, relaxed but ready.

The door handle turned.

Their voices grew louder.

And just before the door opened, Elowen glanced at the others and said, almost too quietly to hear- “Let’s make sure this next chapter of our lives starts the right way.” The door opened.

Light spilled in.

And so did Ethan, with the twins at his side-laughing, bright-eyed, and completely unaware of what was coming next.

The moment he stepped into the room, his smile wavered for half a second.

He saw them-all of them.

Not just Lilith.

Not just Seraphina.

But the entire group was waiting in perfect silence.
