Chapter 275: Opal Mistalore
However, more importantly than that, how was this unknown man able to see that she was a cat-girl? Had he just guessed and gotten lucky? No, that was far too coincidental.
But what made even less sense was that he was able to see her true appearance… something that shouldn’t have been possible.
The white-haired cat-girl wanted to speak up and say something but found herself unable to.
Even now… even when her curiosity was at its peak, she was still incapable of saying what she wanted.
Noticing the troubled expression the girl was making, Cassius decided not to immediately break out of the ropes that bound him. Instead, he inched over like an inchworm, which warranted a lovely smile from his cat-girl spectator.
‘Oh, how painful it is to be such a gentleman…’ Cassius thought with a sigh while taking a look at her System Interface.
BLING!
[Opal Mistalore (Female Human/Yokai)]
[Realm: Apprentice Slayer (5th Stage)]
[Approximate Rank: A++]
[Disabilities: Mute/Deaf – Cause: ???]
“Hmm?”
Both of Cassius’s eyebrows raised as he looked between the System tag and the girl beneath it.
“You’re unable to speak or hear, huh…” he said to himself.
He felt a bit bad for the girl, but it was not pity he felt. No, he was sure that she had experienced more than enough of that from other people.
Opal Mistalore squirmed under his intense gaze. She scooted away from the window, her eyes shakily averting themselves from the tired man below.
“Say,” Cassius said while tapping on the stone slab Opal was sitting on. “Why are you down here? Were you captured for some reason—oh, wait, sorry, let me voice transmit.”
“Can you hear me now?” he asked, his voice directly transmitting into her mind.
“???”
Opal looked toward him in surprise, unsure of how she could once again hear him talking without seeing his lips move. That was when she recalled her father and a few others doing something similar in the past. Her eyes brightened as she fervently nodded her head and made a few gestures with her hands.
“Sign language,” Cassius noted, his irises glazing with curiosity. “Although I don’t know the language, I’m sure I can learn.”
“But regardless of that,” he continued, once again transmitting to Opal’s mind, “is there any way you feel safe enough to permit me to take off these bindings?”
Opal tilted her head in a cute way. Her fluffy white cat ears twitched as she pondered, unsure of how to transmit her voice through her mind like Cassius.
After a moment of disgruntled deliberation, she nodded. But at the same time, she huddled herself in the bench’s corner, shivering a little.
Men scared her.
Cassius sighed before effortlessly breaking out of the magic ropes that bound him. He rose from the ground and stretched. Then he focused his sight on the nervous cat-girl. She jolted back a bit when his gaze fell on her, causing her fluffy ears to droop.
“I’m not here to hurt you,” said Cassius, his gaze softening. “You… did they hurt you…?”
Opal shook, frightened.
Suddenly, flashing through her mind were memories of those hooded men ambushing her and her protection forces while they were searching for something. They killed off almost all of her party, leaving only her and her Head Guard alive.
However…

‘Natasha…’ Opal thought, tears unknowingly streaming down her stiff eyes. ‘She… she…’
Seeing the sorry state of the girl forced a sigh out of the apathetic Cassius. Yet, at this moment, he didn’t appear all too devoid of emotion. He sat down beside the sorrowful girl and opened his right arm, seemingly inviting her close.
Opal saw him through watery eyes, and though apprehensive at first, she needed comfort from somewhere, anywhere. She threw her head against his chest, then gripped onto his robes and bawled her eyes out even more than before.
Yet, even with the waterworks creating two streams down her fair-skinned face, nothing except for a low, muffled scream escaped her mouth. It was so quiet, though, that Cassius was only able to hear it because of his insane hearing.
‘It seems this girl has been through a lot,’ he thought while slowly petting her head. ‘Suffering alone in this dungeon… Haiz… It’s always these types of girls that I end up encountering.’
But after extending her description, he learned a lot more than she was currently capable of telling him.
For one, Opal Mistalore was indeed the biological younger sister of Yuna Mistalore. Moreover, their mother was the same person, same as with their father. However, this was where things became a bit weird, for Yuna had the general racial characteristics of a Yaksha. On the other hand, Opal was obviously more of a cat-girl than a Yaksha, which complicated things.
Though, with a bit more scrolling through Opal’s description, Cassius figured out something that made the puzzle pieces better fit together.
Yuna and Opal’s mother—she was not any ordinary Yokai. Her mother was a Cat Yokai. As for her father, he was… a Yaksha Yokai. And together, they made up the topmost ruling force of the Island Kingdom—Ashikaga Shogunate.
In a sense, Yuna and Opal’s grandparents were the Shogun and Midai-dokoro of an Island Kingdom surpassing the military might of even the Mistalore Kingdom. This also made them the legitimate heirs of the next line to the throne.
However, in the events leading up to Opal’s capture, not a single bit of it had been because of her illustrious lineage. Or, at least not because of her hidden one.
‘To scheme out an elaborate ploy to get Opal over to the Shallow Crater and then ambush her group,’ Cassius thought. ‘And then to not end with merely capturing her but also commit those vile acts to her Head Guard in an attempt to intimidate her into submission…’
He certainly had his handful with this one, even more so than with the girls he encountered during his previous escapades.
— After a few minutes pass —
Cassius, feeling something nudge at his arm, looked down to see a pair of big, round eyes staring up at him. They were reddened from all the crying but still sparkled like the most expensive of jewels.
“What’s the matter?”
