Chapter 277: Charles Chamberlain [Bonus Chapter 5/7]
With shadows shrouding her face, Opal shook her head. At first, she shook slowly, but then as more time passed, she began shaking very quickly, seemingly becoming more emotional the faster she shook. Tears once again started to fall, her mind in utter turmoil.
However, before she could spiral any further, that same warm hand landed on her soft bed of white hair. A soothing energy seeped out of that hand, doing well to calm her mind and keep her emotions under control.
“Quit stressing,” Cassius said. “I don’t know why you and those other girls always do that. But anyway, I can handle a few minor villains. They likely won’t even be capable of withstanding a single punch.”
Opal pulled away from him in a hurry. She grabbed her pencil and wrote something on the piece of paper.
“You promise?” Cassius read, urging his smile to widen. “I promise,” he said, sticking out his right pinky finger. “Wanna pinky promise swear on it?”
Opal looked between his pinky and his kind eyes with a strained, puffy gaze. A couple of tears were shaken off as she earnestly nodded and hooked her pinky finger around his.
“It’s a pinky promise then,” Cassius said, shaking her pinky thrice before letting go. “And it seems like I’ll have to prove to you that I don’t break promises a tad bit sooner than expected.”
“???”
Just then, a loud bang came from upstairs as the basement’s singular door was slammed open. Two distinct pairs of footsteps echoed through the wide empty space. Opal—not knowing why Cassius was suddenly looking toward the basement stairway—followed his gaze.
Yet, when she saw the light from upstairs cast an eerie glow on the stairway floor, she shrank back in fright. Instinctively, she cowered behind the broad-shouldered Cassius and closed her eyes.
Feeling her sweaty grip and sensing her extreme unease, Cassius’s frown deepened. He honed in on the stairway and the two sets of footsteps. One, he recognized; it belonged to the Captain of Platoon 49.
But as for the other set… That one he didn’t recognize.
“Those two are down here, are they not?” an unfamiliar voice questioned in a low growl, clearly annoyed.
“Y-Yes, young master,” Platoon 49’s Captain respectfully replied.
“Why are you pestering me, then?”
“W-Well, both the 15th Princess and that boy you wanted dead are down here,” the Captain said. “However, despite the boy being restrained with magical ropes, I’ve just been informed that they weren’t properly secured. Given his strength, there’s a chance he could’ve broken free. As such, I must accompany you to ensure your safety—unless, of course, you want your father and brother to have my head…”
“Enough about my father and brother,” the unfamiliar voice growled, even more irritated than before. “Just fade into obscurity when we see them, then. I don’t want you ruining my two new fun toys.”
He licked his lips, both lasciviously and sadistically, seemingly imagining the two different scenarios he was going to experience with his captives.
However, upon reaching the last step and turning a corner, the young master’s eyes widened. Yet, after the initial surprise, his expression returned to neutrality.
“It seems the incompetence of you and your subordinates rings true,” he said with slight killing intent. “You just better pray—for your sake—that Opal still retains her purity after being in the presence of an unshackled man for so long.”
Opal shivered under that lustful gaze of his, further hiding herself behind Cassius.
Platoon 49’s Captain felt his heart briefly fill with anger, seeing how his captive had escaped her bonds. He’d have someone’s head for this later on. Embarrassing him in front of the 2nd Young Master like this was unacceptable. Simply unacceptable!
“You there, boy,” said the owner of the unfamiliar voice—a mildly handsome young man with medium-length black hair and a pompous aura exuding from his every move. “Get away from my woman if you know what’s good for ya. I wish to have some fun with her right away, you see.”
Cassius’s eyes narrowed into thin slits.
“What? Are you unsatisfied with that arrangement?” the young master asked arrogantly. “Well, considering that torturing you is for dessert, I suppose I could do you a favor and permit you to watch. But if you dare interfere in my fun, I’ll make you experience torture 20 times worse than what I originally had planned for you.”
Ignoring the young master’s cocky words and long strides, Cassius opened up his System Interface, curious to see who had been plotting against him:
BLING!

[Age: 24]
‘He’s actually managed to receive a power ranking score with three minus signs,’ Cassius thought in awe. ‘I didn’t believe it to be possible, but people surprise me every day, it seems.’
But regardless of the young master’s incompetence, Cassius pulled up the rest of his description—or, at least, the most important parts of the guy’s mostly worthless life.
[Place of Origin: Land of Beginnings – Azure Archipelago – Mistalore Kingdom – Chamberlain Duke Household]
[Highest Position of Authority: 2nd Oldest Heir of the Chamberlain Duke Household]
[Most powerful backing: His Father—Thomas Chamberlain (2nd Class ⁷), and his older brother—William Chamberlain (2nd Class ³)]
[Reason for being where he is in the present: Was ordered by his older brother to torture the man who dared speak so closely with Yuna Mistalore. Yet, death was not allowed for the man; he was merely to be tenderized before William himself could get his hands on him. Charles was also instructed not to touch who William considered to be his 2nd wife—Opal Mistalore—but Charles didn’t seem to care.]
“Well, boy!?” Charles shouted, breaking Cassius’s concentration. “Have you decided if you value your life yet or not!??”
Cassius nonchalantly looked up from his System Interface. However, contrary to when the young master first appeared, he held far less interest in his eyes.
‘This untalented idiot isn’t even the one who put a target out on my head,’ he thought with a sigh, shaking his head in disappointment. ‘It looks like this’ll be a troublesome charade, then.’
