Chapter 295: Origin Sea, Eternal Life, Forceful Leveling…? [Bonus Chapter 4/7]
An Origin Source—following the Soul Eater’s death—would immediately return to the Origin Sea. They would lose everything that they once were—including memories, feelings, and any connections that they had with their previous lives.
The Origin Source would become a blank slate. It would be a fresh start for its Core Existence.
However, along with this fresh start came both a curse and a blessing: the Origin Source’s special quality—eternal rebirth and eternal perpetuity. They could neither be permanently harmed nor erased and would always—without exception—return to the Origin Sea following the Soul Eater’s death.
Even newly born Soul Eaters—either made by devouring another Soul Eater or naturally becoming one through evil deeds—would go to the Origin Sea after death. On that note, the Origin Sources of Soul Eaters would not be devoured when a different Soul Eater ate another.
Eternal life—it was a glorious notion on paper. But in reality, it was something that has and will continue bringing people to the brink of insanity.
Soul Emperor Salar—a Soul Eater Emperor who had been alive for millions of years—was one of such immortal beings. A being that had long grown bored of life and the cage that trapped him.
Yet, to finally hear that a Soul Eater’s Origin Source hadn’t returned after its death was… it was euphoric for Soul Emperor Salar!
It gave him hope! Hope that his eternal suffering would finally come to an end!
Even after his Royal Advisor wrapped up his recap of the things he learned about the Young Soul Eater, Salar’s high had yet to end. He was practically overflowing with joy—with excitement—with the promise of a release from this life of his.
He didn’t care how the person who permanently killed the Young Soul Eater did what he did! He didn’t even care that the Soul Eater that died was part of his faction!
None of it—none of it mattered when faced with the opportunity to die and not return!
“Our Origin Sources also give us eternal life, not just eternal rebirth,” Soul Emperor Salar said while beaming with excitement. “This means that any one of us could live till the end of time—forever and ever and ever. But if I were to choose between living forever and dying repeatedly—always forgetting who I was—then I’d always pick the former. Even if I don’t want to live forever, I also don’t want to be reborn forever.”
“But now,” he continued, happily shaking on his cage’s bars, “with the sudden appearance of someone who can permanently kill us, we no longer have to choose between the two! We can finally die for good! A feat that even the Netherworld Rulers could not accomplish, this being somehow can! We must find him… find him and have him kill me—”
“Wait, Sire,” Molgor said, seemingly unbothered about the talk of assisted suicide. He, too, wanted to die, but things were not so easy. “From what we could gather in the Young Soul Eater’s last moments, the one who killed it was only able to do so because it was heavily restricted. In other words, for the being to be capable of killing you or me would be…”
“Another impossible thing,” Soul Emperor Salar lifelessly murmured, slumping to the enchanted floor of his cage. “But wait!” he said, eyes shining. “If he killed the Soul Eater, then that means he became a Soul Eater. This also means that all we have to do to make him strong enough to kill us is unload tons of Soul Eaters his way! As long as he can achieve the Soul Eater King rank, then he should be able to kill me!”
“That’s that,” he continued with a resounding clap. “Figure out the being’s exact location, then throw thousands of Soul Eaters his way, each one stronger than the last. Power this being up by threatening his life, Molgor!”
“But, Sire, is this truly the wisest thing to do?” Molgor asked with twitching brows. “What will your subjects think when you tell them to run out and get themselves killed?”
Without pause, Soul Emperor Salar said, “Then just don’t tell them, you dolt! What this operation could bring to not only us but the entirety of Soul Eater society is worth far more than their lives are worth—even more than our lives are worth! What you need to do is inform our troops of a highest-tier threat to our Salar Faction, then tell them to hunt the being who killed the Young Soul Eater. And also, is this being capable?”
Royal Advisor Molgor’s forehead wrinkles crinkled, but he still found it in him to say, “Yes, Sire, I believe so. He’s strong enough to fight above his rank.”
“Alright, then make sure to only send out troops possessing strength toward the very upper limits of what he can handle,” said Soul Emperor Salar. “Make both sides believe that everything is happening naturally—that neither is being manipulated. This is how we power up the one that can permanently kill us—the one potentially able to free us! Don’t you understand, Molgor?? Whatever it takes, we must make sure this being evolves enough to end our suffering!!”
CLANG! CLANG!
The Soul Emperor’s cage violently rattled, with his immense aura leaking out in trace amounts. Yet, even with barely anything escaping the confines of the cage, it was still enough to shake the massive bird-like creature they were on. As a result, the bird creature smashed through hundreds of ridiculously large mountain ranges, veering off its routine path.
However, with the passing of a couple of seconds—enough time for Soul Emperor Salar to calm himself—the several-million-year-old bird creature returned to its typical path. A path that it had been following in circles for millions of years and would continue doing so for millions more years.
Observing the Soul Emperor’s excited outburst, Royal Advisor Molgor sighed. He shook his head before respectfully bowing and vanishing from the space. His voice, however, rang out for a moment longer:
“It shall be done, Sire. I’ll personally see that your wishes are brought to fruition.”
