Chapter 296: The Platforms, 100 Year Deadline
Soul Emperor Salar merely smiled, his mind already filled with thoughts involving the sweet release that would come to him upon his demise. Both he and his Core Existence would be able to receive some much, much, much deserved rest.
“Hopefully soon…”
— Meanwhile, within an unendingly white, blank space —
An otherworldly handsome figure suddenly materialized from thin air, his appearance creating a large imbalance in the once completely white space. As soon as he fully formed, thin black lines spread out from beneath him and extended in every which way. Squares with black line separators were created as a result of the black lines, and all the squares were perfectly formed and brought together to create an array of tile-like platforms. The platforms quickly raised up off the ground, then they spun around in large quantities before ultimately positioning themselves like a staircase.
An untold number of platform rows were made in flawless ascending order. Then, atop each of the platforms, a number appeared. The higher the platform, the higher the number floating above it. The ones at the absolute bottom might say something like 2 or 4, whereas those further up had numbers like 6000 or 200000.
Just as Cassius thought the formation of these platforms was over and done with, he was surprised to see them also change color. The ones at the bottom still stayed white, but a few dozen rows above, the platforms turned green. Then, a hundred rows higher, they turned blue. Then purple, then orange, then red, then black, and then finally some sort of iridescent color.
Right around when the last of the platforms finished their color changes, Cassius heard the all-too-familiar voice of his annoying system:
*Ding~!*
[I know how much you enjoy looking at pretty colors, you Neanderthal, but get this—and don’t be too surprised—but the colors actually have more meaning to them than just pleasing your inferior gaze!]
[You notice how the colors kind of match up with any common RPG-style game? You have white for Common, Green for Uncommon, Blue for Rare, Purple for Epic, Orange for Legendary, and Red for Mythic? Well, it’s the same thing here—with the same ranks as well. Moreover, there are the Black and Rainbow ranks, the former of which is termed the Abyss rank and the latter—the second to last rank—and has the name of Evolutionary.]
“What about the final rank?” Cassius asked while looking as far out as he could. “Why can’t I see anything beyond the Rainbow Platforms?”
[Who knows? Perhaps you’re too blind or stupid to see the final rank (∗´ര ᎑ ര`∗)]
Cassius: “….”
[But regardless of your incompetence, I’ve yet to inform you of the numbers sitting above each one of the Platforms. These numbers are the main part of your Class Change Quest, with the rank of each Platform only acting as more of a milestone and rarity indicator for when you ascend them.]
[The numbers each signify a point amount that reaching the specific platform is worth. You make it to a higher Platform, you receive the points that the number above it says there are. Simple, right?]
“Ye—”
[I knew you wouldn’t understand, you Monkey. But in spite of your mental deficiencies, I’ll do my very best to articulate to you why these points are so important.]
[First off, before I tell you the good stuff, I’ll let you know that once you begin ascending the Platforms, you can only take the points from a single Platform on each row.]
[Now, now, as for why you should be actively aiming to obtain as many points as you possibly can. You’re aware of the Idle Score that you’ve been gaining until now, are you not?]
“Yes, I am—”
[I don’t care. Anyways~]
‘Saying anyways all the time doesn’t make everything okay, you ass!’
[Anyways~] the Idle Evolution System continued with a smug expression. [The Idle Score you have amassed since activating the glorious one and only I has been converted into something that pulls upon the strings of destiny. For example: if you had 10,000 Idle Score, I threw all of that into a gambling pot—one where you could potentially come out with 1000 times that amount! Then again, you could also leave with 1000 times belwo that amount…]
[I’ve done it this way to increase your chances of getting the Class best suited for your future Character Development! You should be thanking me right about now, hoho~]
“I see,” Cassius said while ignoring the last bit of what his System spoke. “Well then, does this mean my chances of receiving a really good Class is purely luck-based? Or… is there something else at play…?”
[Ding, Ding, Ding! It’s good to see your brain cells finally getting some action up in that empty head of yours!]
[And yes, there is more to this setup than a mere roll of the dice. To advance the Platforms and obtain the points above each one, you must successfully complete whatever challenge presents itself to you! Each of the Platform’s challenges is different, and the further you ascend, the harder the challenges become!]
[P.S. Any Rebirth or overpowered Regenerative-related Skills, Techniques, Bloodlines, Physiques, or whatever will not progress in proficiency while attempting the Challenges. You will, however, be able to infinitely attempt any of the Challenges if you so wish to!]
[By the way, any Techniques, Skills, Bloodlines, and whatnot that require you to get beaten up can still be progressed while attempting the Challenges! (Wouldn’t want you to pass up on some well-deserved Character Development… Hehe…)]
Cassius knew for certain now that the Idle Evolution System was actively encouraging him to get himself hospitalized. In fact, that was probably the prime reason why the System chose this type of format for the Class Change Quest—it wanted him beaten and battered beyond recognition.

[No~, I’d never~]
“Yeah, whatever,” Cassius said with a light click of his tongue. “Just start this thing up already.”
[My dear Host, it’s already long since begun!]
