Chapter 378: A Staircase To Heaven, God…?
Flying up to the limit of the 6th Heavenly Arch’s barrier atop his Angel-variant Dragon, Raijin, Cassius beckoned for him to stop. And though Yimin and the other girls looked at him weirdly, he leapt off Raijin’s back, teleporting far beyond their vision.

While they all just dumbly stood there, Yimin was the first to speak up in bewilderment. “Erm… Where did the Master go…? H-He didn’t leave Yimins, did he!?”

“As much as I wish that were the case,” said Zara, her purple gaze locked onto the boundless airspace above. “I believe he’s about to do something dangerous, and he’s afraid we’ll get hurt. Oh, my husband~! He’s so sweet to me~!”

*Tick!*

“Why do you always think he’s doing everything for you, dumb bitch!?” Maxy popped multiple blood vessels, her anger soaring just about as high as Cassius was flying. “Don’t forget that you were the last one among us to meet the Master! Why would you believe he cares more for you than us!?”

“Because I’m prettier,” Zara stated plainly, exhibiting clear confusion. “Isn’t that obvious?”

*Tick! Tick!*

“Bitch!” Both Yimin and Maxy shouted in unison, with even the normally reserved Exisia becoming a little incensed.

‘Even you were at one point coveting me for my immense beauty, so how could you direct those words at me as well??’ she thought to herself, her face twitching all over.

Zaraphina appeared visibly confused. “Why are you all so mad? These are just facts—”

“We’ll show you facts!” the other girls spat back as they jumped the puzzled Demon Girl, with even Exisia joining the fray.

‘How come I never realized how annoying women could be?’ Zara questioned while effortlessly deflecting all of their attacks. ‘This is why Cassius is just better; he’s so very stoic, and stupidly handsome to boot~’

‘Mhmm~,’ she moaned internally. ‘I want his seed so bad~! Just imagine the Progenitor babies we’d consummate~!!’ she hoped, not actually expecting her dream to come true.

Little did she know that Cassius really was a Progenitor, and that there was a certain chance their hypothetical babies would come out as Progenitors…

Never in history has there been a Progenitor like him, so even if others could not, there was always the possibility that he could.

As for what this never-before-seen anomaly was doing right now…

“So, if I just call out, God will hear me, right?” Cassius bemused, unsure of how this stuff was supposed to work. “I never was much of a religious person, so I’m all but a beginner concerning this topic. But sometimes, you just have to try things out and see if they work, right?”

Well, here goes nothing!

“Erm,” muttered Cassius, interlocking his fingers like an awkward believer. “This is my first time, but yeah, hey God. You see, there’s this favor I want to ask of you. And though I know I’m in no position to be asking for favors from you who can see all sin and whatnot, I would be beyond grateful if you could permit me a meeting with Your Holiness—”

FWISH!

Forcing Cassius to open his eyes was the sudden appearance of a shining golden door that materialized before him. Turning to look around the door, he saw nothing on the other side.

“Hurm… A door to God?” Cassius pondered, his curiosity growing. “Well, whatever it is, there’s no more ‘up’ to go, so this must be the way I get into the 7th Heavenly Arch.”

However, even if he highly doubted God would go through the hassle of setting a trap for him, Cassius’s caution remained as high as usual. It was because of this that he decided to venture forward without the company of the crazies; he sent them a brief voice transmission telling them he’d be right back.

Screams and fighting came from the other end of the call line, blaring Cassius’s eardrums. It was obvious that they were in the middle of something right now, so after leaving the message, he approached the golden door of light and opened it.

Passing through, the scenery immediately changed. The soft clouds of milky gold were still present in the background, but it was almost as if a filament had been placed over everything, making it look as if none of it were a part of his reality.

Weirder yet, what used to be nothing behind the golden door now stood a staircase with limits unknown.

“The Staircase to Heaven,” said Cassius, intrigued. “So it really does exist. And from the looks of it, this is the path to God.”

How poetic, right?

Ascending the slightly translucent steps of the staircase with post-haste, Cassius found himself losing track of time. He couldn’t tell if mere moments had passed since he began his ascent, or if entire years had gone by.

After what felt like an eternity and an instant at the same time, Cassius’s foot landed on the final translucent step. The kinetic energy his foot transferred to the step caused it to ripple. That ripple spread out over empty air, gradually revealing a Secret Realm that once wasn’t there.

Rather than a pure-white palace in the skies, what showed itself to Cassius was more along the lines of an Immortal’s Paradise. There were lush green valleys, with freshly bloomed flowers growing on them. Moreover, waterfalls that endlessly flowed were sprinkled about, their liquid reflections shimmering underneath the perfect heat of the seemingly genuine sun hanging above.

Even the chirping of various birds and the flapping of the wings of swans added to the overall otherworldly atmosphere of this place—a stretch of land no bigger than that of a few football fields placed together.

“A Heavenly Paradise.”

“???”

A voice that wasn’t Cassius’s carried through the ethereal air, warmly dripping into his ears. However, beneath the warm exterior of this voice, there lay a depth that no mortal could ever hope to fully comprehend.

“That is what the few who visited this place in the past told me,” said the mysterious voice, his words making lilies dance and glow. “But for me, it’s no paradise. It’s just home.”

From above, a figure descended.

Just like the rumors depicted him to be, he was bathed in a golden light. Yet his presence was neither overbearing nor domineering; it was dangerous nonetheless, but it was as if the incomprehensible being before Cassius would never harm even a fly.

But he knew better than to let his guard down…
