Chapter 394: Returning to Reality
“Spe… Special…?” May repeated, wondering if this was some new type of scam.

How could she be special in any form??

She was just a scarred uggo with barely above-average talent in Body Cultivation and no future prospects whatsoever!

Even her personality was bland and unattractive—

“You think too much,” said Cassius, lightly karate-chopping her noggin to get her out of her thoughts. “You’re perfect just the way you are, scar or not. And though you may not be able to see it because of this… world, I can see it. So believe me if you’re unable to believe in yourself.”

“Believe you…?”

Cassius showed a hurt expression. “What’s with that look?? Could someone as dashing and eco-friendly as me possibly be an untrustworthy person???”

‘Perfect just the way I am…’

“Hey, dove, are you listening to me…?? Hello…???”

Giving her another one of her firsts, happiness swelled up inside May’s heart. Real, genuine happiness. And with it, the edges of her lips curved upward into a radiant smile.

It was one that made Cassius freeze, with a wide grin emerging a moment later.

“See, I knew you were a hottie—”

*Pinch!*

“Hey, what was that for?” asked Cassius as he looked down to see an adorably pouting girl pinching his side.

“Not telling.”

“Hwaa??” Cassius made an exaggerated expression. “Getting rebellious already, are we? I miss the meek girl from earlier who couldn’t even meet my gaze. Boo…”

“Well, too bad, because this is the version of me you’re going to get.”

“Hum? Dove, does that mean…”

“Yes,” May smiled dazzlingly. “I’ll run away with you, Cassius.”

“Didn’t know you were the romantic type—”

*Pinch!*

“Ow, ow, I was just kidding,” Cassius feigned pain. “Beneath that soft exterior, you’re actually quite the feisty one, huh?”

“Humph, jerk.”

“As expected of the protagonist,” Cassius mused as he watched her interlock her arms with his. “Capable of switching up on the flip of a dime.”

Leaving the room in the dead of night, the two of them chatted and strolled through the castle halls. Eventually, though, May thought to ask something:

“What of my father’s kingdom…?” she murmured. “Even though he doesn’t like me or even believe I’m worthy of life, he’s still… my father. I can’t just leave him to die in a kingdom that’s destined to fall and be taken over.”

“Hm?”

Cassius found something to admire in this unique girl, but unfortunately, such admiration had no place in this world. After all—

“None of this is real.”

“!??!”

“Wh-What… What do you mean none of this is real??” May questioned.

“I mean, this world—your reality—is all false. A dream. An illusion,” Cassius reiterated, sighing. ‘I knew I’d eventually have to explain it to her, but it appears she’s taking it quite hard…’

‘However, I’d likely be the same if I were in her shoes…’

“How can none of this be real??” May exclaimed. “See, I can touch everything, feel everything! This is real!”

“You really don’t know, do you?”

“Know what???”

Shaking his head, Cassius made a claw-like motion with his hands. “Here, I’ll just have to show you,” he said as the world around them collapsed in on itself and vanished into the folds of space and time. “As I told you before, you’re special.”

To May’s utter astonishment, the Kingdom of Uguru, as well as the rest of the world she knew, disappeared without a trace. An empty space then opened up before her. After which, the scenery warped again.

When she opened her eyes, what looked to be the bars of a cage appeared before her. She was lying down on a vertically placed bed in the cage, her nude body completely bare.

Outside the cage was an underground dungeon of sorts, its walls meant to confine her.

However, floating beside this bed of hers was a man and a woman. The woman had long, luscious iridescent hair as well as a figure that bordered upon perfect. Whereas the man…

“Cassius…?” May’s voice came out weak, with the magical chains that bound her jingling. “Why are you here…? Where… Where am I…?”

*Clang! Clang!*

Effortlessly slashing off her chains, Cassius caught her falling body in his sturdy arms. And while covering her with a robe, he said, “Oh, where do I even begin? You being so very special has really gotten you into some trouble, you know?”

In a patient and understanding tone, he then went on to explain everything to the distraught and confused girl. A few things were concealed from her, but those things were related to the System, so they naturally couldn’t be disclosed so easily.

[So now you know how to respect a maiden’s privacy, you pervert?? (╯︵╰,)]

‘What maiden do you speak of??? You’re becoming more and more delusional by the day!’ Cassius conflicted with his System while in the midst of concluding the explanation with May.

[Only for you, bbygirl~ (ʃƪ^3^)]

“….”

Anyway…

The explanation ultimately reached its conclusion, giving May the chance to process everything she was told.

“So, all this time… I’ve been a source of power for a civilization that I know nothing about… And you two just coincidentally found me while in the process of annihilating this civilization…?”

“Basically, yeah,” Cassius chuckled, acting very unserious. “Popped up, saw you, and decided to help you out. Connecting to your mind through your psyche, I was able to enter the world that you created with your inhuman control over Fate. A world that you made out of necessity.”

“But then… what does that make me…?” May questioned with a dim glow in her blue eyes. “Am I even a real person? Or just some freakish experiment created in a lab??”

Ruffling her hair, Cassius laughed, saying, “You think too much. Of course you’re real; it’s just that your memories were altered… or maybe they were completely erased by a higher being. I haven’t been able to figure that part out myself just yet.”

“Either way, it doesn’t matter to me,” he continued. “You promised that you’d come with me, so naturally that’s what you’ll be doing.”
