Chapter 395: Secret Assassins, You Will Die
From Aflon’s perspective, it looked like his father’s soul had already left his body.
‘Ha! It feels good to see that old stubborn bastard get a taste of his own medicine!’ he thought as he tried his best to conceal the joyous grin on his face.
The three of them soon entered the eight story pagoda and made their way through the oddly vacant reception halls of the first floor.
The Merchant furrowed his brows. “This isn’t right,” he said grimly as he looked for any associates and saw none. “This place is always filled to the brim with customers and my workers. Something is wrong, good sir.”
“I figured that much out already,” Azmodeus said as he heightened his senses.
Then, from a shadow in the receptionist hall, a blade careened through the room and sliced the air at speeds that even an Immortal King would find hard to follow.
Whooop!
Azmodeus shot his eyes in that direction and caught the blade just before it could take off his head.
“They have decided to come after me first?” He asked himself calmly. “How odd… But this works just fine as well.”
A cold gleam flashed past his sinuous gaze as he twisted the fingers holding the razorsharp blade and returned it to its owner.
Whooop!
A painful groan echoed.
“Change tactics!” Someone yelled. “Charge right at him!”
Multiple shadowy figures lunged forth from the shadows and held one hand over the other, planning to plunge their daggers into the red-haired man’s body.
“Ho?”
An amused voice resounded in the reception halls as a creepy smirk crept up Azmodeus’s usually apathetic expression.
FWIP!
His figure then vanished from view, leaving the shadowy men’s train of sight.
“!!!” “!!!” “!!!”
“Spread out and find him!” The head shadow commanded. “I will kill the primary targets!”
“What is happening here…!?”
“I don’t know, father!”
The father and son had just realized that people were attacking them as they were moving far too fast for them to react in the same way as Azmodeus.
“Where is the good sir—!?” Aflon tried to say, but was interrupted by a sharpened blade pressed against his throat.
“!!!”
“Don’t move, or I cut you down,” the owner of the knife said coldly. “Well, I lied…”
This Immortal King was well-known for playing around with his prey, which was why he didn’t immediately kill one of the primary targets.
He savored the feeling of seeing fear overwhelm every other emotion in the faces of his victims—
“So you like to have fun?”
“!!!”

The head assassin let go of the merchant’s son and swiped out behind him.
However, after hitting thin air, his danger senses reached all-time highs as he rapidly shifted his gaze around the room, attempting to locate the anomaly—
Spurt!
“Wha-!?”
The Head Assassin felt his vision flip upside down as he saw the room from an entirely different perspective. On his fall to the floor, his eyes widened in horror after he saw the bloody massacre in the Receptionist Hall.
All the others were dead!
Everyone was dead!
Just like that, the assassination failed in spectacular fashion. The one who caused it to fail took small strides to the head assassin’s corpse and picked up a shiny communication talisman.
Under the astonished eyes of the father-son duo, Azmodeus activated the talisman and spoke to the person on the other end, saying:
“I don’t know who you are; I don’t know why you came after me and the Merchants. And to be honest, I don’t really care.”
His clasp on the communication talisman became ten times tighter than before. As cracks spread throughout it, Azmodeus put his mouth up real close to the talisman. His face froze over.
“However, if I ever find out who you are, you will understand just how grave a mistake it was to mess with me,” he said coldly. “Now, I know your kind. I know that this will only anger you, but that is fine, too. Please, I welcome you to send whoever and whatever after me. Only that way will it feel all the better when I dig you out of your hole.”
No response.
Azmodeus’s scary smirk widened. “You may keep quiet,” he said. “After all, I don’t need your permission.”
Silence.
“Very well,” said an emotionless voice on the other end. “You will die.”
Azmodeus’s aura violently fluctuated, causing the building pagoda to shake. “I truly hope that you can live up to that promise.”
The connection then cut off, leaving both parties to meander around inside their thoughts. A kind of understanding had formed between the two of them.
Only one of them would live, while the other would die.
It was not rocket science. It was simply what was going to happen.
Azmodeus relaxed his nerves and recalled his aura. He then turned to the jittery Merchant and Aflon. “Let’s go,” he said as he began his approach toward the exit. “Before I can sell my goods to you, we have to find the people of your Association.”
“O-Of course, good sir!” The Merchant said as he leapt off the ground and got right beside their savior.
“Wa-Wait for me, father!”
Aflon wasn’t too far behind as he steeled his nerves and tagged along with the group.
Neither he nor his father had any idea what exactly just transpired, but what they did know was that they had huge bounties on their heads. Their best chances of survival at the moment were to stick next to their savior, for only he could guide them through these dark times.
Exiting the building, Azmodeus side-eyed the Merchant. “Tell me,” he said. “Why would an organization filled with Immortal Kings be after your head?”
Even though he had assimilated the assassin’s memories while looting them, they had high-level seals placed around their minds. Those seals prevented him from absorbing anything past surface-level memories. That was unless he wanted to go through mental backlash.
Fortunately, he had two people with him that would never dare entertain the idea of lying to him.
