Chapter 399: Chapter 397: Saving them
Now Sion and Nathan were standing side by side, their backs almost touching, breathing hard but keeping their weapons tight in their hands, and though their clothes were torn and blood was dripping from their arms.

The five monsters were standing still again, just staring at them, not moving at all this time, almost like statues, and the air became so quiet and tense that even the sound of breathing echoed in the wide room.

Then came slow claps, echoing loudly, and all three of them turned toward the sound.

Professor Sera stepped forward from the shadows, her sharp nails clicking together, her long twisted form still part-human but not normal anymore, smiling with lips too wide and teeth too sharp, and she said in a sweet yet twisted voice,

“Amazing… truly amazing. You’re not awakened, yet look at you three standing tall after taking down monsters stronger than you. That was entertaining! I’m actually impressed.”

Sera clapped louder, her eyes glinting with excitement, “You fight like you’ve done this a hundred times! Your teamwork, your will, your instincts—flawed but promising! It’s always the broken ones who shine the brightest when near death!”

Then her smirk widened darkly, and her tone dropped. “But… what about this?”

Without waiting, she raised her hand slightly, and the five monsters slowly began to walk backward, like they were making space for something else, and the room felt colder like danger was crawling underneath the floor.

Elshienne felt a sharp pain in her stomach out of nowhere.

She gasped—her eyes widened—her breath stopped.

She looked down slowly.

There was blood.

A sharp piece of broken metal was sticking out of her stomach.

The hand holding it was small… familiar.

It was Mirae.

Still lying on the ground, half her face hidden by her hair, her eyes blank like glass, her hand trembling as she stabbed the metal deep into Elshienne’s stomach with one arm raised.

“No…” Elshienne whispered, the pain spreading through her body like fire, her legs weakening.

“Mirae…?” her voice cracked.

Sion didn’t hesitate—he turned and kicked Mirae hard, knocking her away from Elshienne as fast as he could.

Nathan dropped his weapon and caught Elshienne before she could hit the ground, holding her tightly in his arms, his voice full of panic and rage, “Elshienne! Stay with me!”

Elshienne was coughing, her hands clutching her stomach, her fingers now stained with blood, and she looked at Mirae with confusion and hurt, “Why…?”

Nathan gritted his teeth, turning his glare toward Sera, who was now laughing loudly, her twisted form trembling from joy, clapping her hands together like it was all a game.

“Oh, the look on your face! You should have seen it!” she laughed again, throwing her head back. “You didn’t expect that, did you? Poor sweet Elshienne, always so kind… always trying to protect others. And look where that got you!”

Sion was standing in front of them now, guarding them again, his eyes scanning for the next attack, his hands shaking slightly from the anger building up inside him.

Then Junhee and Mirae slowly began to stand up again.

But this time…

They weren’t human anymore.

Their arms were longer, skin now pale with dark veins crawling up their necks, and their eyes were completely blank, no light, no feeling, just empty.

They stared straight at them.

Like puppets.

“Elshienne, I’m sorry.” Nathan said again, holding her tighter, his voice breaking.

Sion stood in front of Nathan and Elshienne, gripping a broken metal pipe tightly, his eyes locked on the two figures slowly approaching him—Mirae and Junhee, their once friendly faces now cold and empty, their bodies twisted slightly in unnatural ways, their movements slow but full of deadly intent.

He raised his hand a little, trying one last time, his voice low but firm, “Mirae… Junhee… it’s me, Sion. Can you hear me? Wake up! You’re not like this, right?”

But before they could even respond, Sera’s mocking voice echoed from behind, full of cruel amusement.”Don’t bother, Sion,” she said with a sneer, her glowing eyes flashing in the dim light, “they’re not coming back—not now, not ever. Even if you kill me, the process is already done. Their minds… belong to me now.”

Sion clenched his jaw tightly, his hands shaking a little from anger, but then he looked over his shoulder and his heart sank.

Elshienne was bleeding badly, blood pouring from her stomach as she leaned against Nathan, her face pale and her breath getting slower, while Nathan himself was wincing, one hand pressing his side like he was hurt too, even though he hadn’t been touched.

Sion’s eyes widened slightly.’They can feel each other’s pain?! That’s messed up!’ he thought, teeth grinding together. ‘If she dies, he’ll die too… or worse! I need to get these two out of here now!’

He quickly scanned the room, eyes darting around for any kind of exit, weak wall, or even a window—anything they could use to escape.

Meanwhile, high above them on the rooftop, behind the thick glass ceiling, three silhouettes stood watching everything with tense expressions.

“Prof! What?! Are we still just gonna watch?!” Yoora shouted, her voice full of anger and worry. “How long are we supposed to wait?!”

Seojun stood still, arms crossed, his sharp eyes watching through the roof glass like a hawk, not missing a single move.

“Just a little more,” he replied calmly, though his fists were slightly clenched.

Beside Yoora, Hannah and Jinhyu stood close together, their faces pale and hands shaking as they watched their friends below being attacked.

“I don’t care anymore, Professor!” Yoora snapped again, turning to him with tears forming in her eyes. “I don’t know what you’re waiting for—but I can’t just stay here and watch them suffer!”

Hannah and Jinhyu nodded quickly. “She’s right! We have to help them! Elshienne’s bleeding! Nathan’s not moving! Please!”

Seojun let out a long sigh.

[How impatient.]

Yoora gritted her teeth. “Damn it, Professor! I don’t care anymore! Hannah, Jinhyu—let’s go!”

Then, without another word, she jumped forward, breaking through the glass roof with a loud crash, her body flipping in the air before landing between the monsters and her friends.

Hannah and Jinhyu looked once more at Seojun, saying softly, “Sorry, Professor,” before they too jumped down behind Yoora, landing with a loud thud, ready to fight.

Sion’s eyes widened as he saw them fall in from above.
