Chapter 869: Chapter 869 – Duke Haagenti
The demons were already launching their assault when they arrived—hurling long-range attacks from a distance toward the protective dome. Explosions of dark energy lit up the deep, and several massive demons floated ominously above, unleashing powerful blasts that rippled through the water. Others slammed their twisted bodies directly against the dome’s surface, as if determined to shatter it with brute force.

But so far, the barrier held.

Luckily, the queen had arrived before the demons could break through.

The moment her presence was noticed, the demons began to slow their attack. Their movements shifted—as if they were pausing, calculating, waiting.

Then, without a word, Queen Nerisa launched forward, leaving the throne behind in a burst of motion. Her elite warriors followed in a sharp, unified formation. She didn’t hesitate. Didn’t flinch. The armored whale, meanwhile, continued its charge straight toward the kingdom, carrying Broken swiftly into the protective barrier.

As they passed through, Broken leapt off and landed near the rear of the defending forces—just behind rows of merfolk warriors already braced for war. They stood still, yet ready, their weapons drawn, fins tense.

He quickly scaled a higher section of coral-stone ruins nearby, positioning himself where he could get a clear view of what was about to unfold.

From his vantage point, he saw her—Queen Nerisa—hovering at the very front of the army, the dark ocean swirling around her. Behind her, dozens of her fiercest merfolk warriors formed a solid wall of silver armor and glinting spears.

She was fearless. Completely unshaken. And it was no wonder why she was hailed as the strongest in this Kingdom.

She didn’t just rule this army.

She led them herself.

The queen truly wasn’t one for words—especially not in moments like this.

As soon as she floated into position at the frontlines, her expression didn’t shift, her posture didn’t waver—but the water around her began to twist violently. Spirals of force surged outward, spinning faster and faster until glowing magic circles bloomed into existence all around her.

Even her own army instinctively pulled back a few meters, giving her space.

Then it hit.

Though they were deep underwater, it was clear as day—the ocean itself responded to her will. The currents condensed rapidly, compressing into dense, wild torrents that surged forward with terrifying speed.

And then—impact.

The waves slammed into the demon forces like a living tidal beast. Shockwaves rippled through the deep, and a series of massive explosions lit the sea in flashes of cold, blue light. Demons were tossed, scattered, ripped from their formations. Chaos exploded in every direction.

It was a breathtaking sight.

From where Broken stood, he could only mutter, “Wow…”

This was no ordinary queen. Imagine if she unleashed a spell like that on land—it would erase an entire city block without effort. His decision to take this queen seriously hadn’t just been smart—it had been critical.

She wasn’t holding back. Not even a little.

And it showed. The demon army was clearly shaken—many of them scattered, some already retreating under the crushing force of her magic. The battlefield had shifted instantly. All it took was one move from her.

The queen’s assault raged on for a while longer, so relentless and overwhelming that even her own army didn’t need to lift a finger. They simply hovered back, watching, waiting, as the demon forces were continuously battered by wave after wave of brutal magic.

Broken observed it all from his elevated vantage point—until suddenly, the queen halted her attack.

She stopped. Just like that.

His eyes narrowed.

Then he saw it.

From the back of the demon army, a figure emerged—larger, more imposing, moving with a weight of authority that instantly shifted the air of the battlefield. This one wasn’t like the others.

It was an aquatic demon, but twisted and monstrous: a bull-like beast with a massive, muscular body covered in dark, scaled flesh. Its limbs were webbed and powerful, its long serpentine tail swaying behind it like a whip.

And then Broken saw the name floating above its head.

[Duke Haagenti – Lv. 312]

[Named Demon – Ranking 48]

His stomach dropped.

A Named Demon.

There was a Named Demon here.

Not just that—ranking forty-eight.

“Shit…” Broken muttered under his breath. This one was ranked even higher than King Balam, the Named Demon who had been part of the devastating assault on Dissidia Kingdom—not long ago. Balam had been ranked 51.

Haagenti was stronger.

Not as terrifying as Prince Stolas, the Rank 36 Named Demon who’d clashed with King Alorik before being slain by Demian—but still dangerously close in power.

This wasn’t just a battle anymore.

This was war.

He honestly hadn’t expected a Named Demon to just casually show up like this.

This wasn’t some grand, orchestrated siege. It was just… happening. And yet, here was a high-ranking demon—an absolute powerhouse—appearing as if it were no big deal.

But wait. If this demon could exist down here, in aquatic form… didn’t that mean it could potentially surface and wreak havoc on land too?

Haagenti did have legs, even if his form was clearly adapted for underwater battle. And if a Named Demon of this rank ever stepped foot on the surface… it would spell disaster. The kind of chaos that could tear through cities without resistance.

Broken swallowed hard. The demon’s level was over 300. Just the sight of it made something heavy twist in his chest.

But surely… surely Queen Nerisa could take it down. She had to be strong enough. She was the ruler of the Oceanic Kingdom, and based on what he’d seen earlier, she wasn’t someone who fought with hesitation. Her magical force was terrifying.

Even so, it was becoming painfully clear that underwater warfare in this kingdom wasn’t some elegant dance of strategy and precision—it was brutal, raw, and overwhelming. This wasn’t a fight Broken wanted to ever see repeated on land, especially not after what nearly happened to Dissidia Kingdom during the last war. That had been close. Too close.

He took a breath, eyes locked on the battlefield.

“Let’s see,” he murmured. “Let’s see how this war plays out.”

But should he step in?

He could, technically. Even down here, his bow worked—he could still strike from a distance, safely behind the barrier.

The question was… would it make a difference?

The battle erupted in full force.

From her position above the battlefield, Queen Nerisa unleashed another devastating wave of magic—her attacks striking deep and wide, fracturing demon formations before her forces even reached them.

Though the demons outnumbered them several times over, Queen Nerisa’s warriors were far stronger, their coordination far sharper. It was a brutal clash—like two walls of raw force smashing into each other.

But something didn’t sit right.

Weren’t the demons attacking because the queen had left the territory? Yet even now, with her clearly present, they kept charging. Kept fighting. No hesitation. No retreat.

They lived like war was routine.

No wonder the Oceanic Kingdom’s prison had so many high-level prisoners—clearly, they were seasoned warriors captured in battles like this, not common criminals.

And then, Broken’s eyes locked on him.

The Named Demon.

Duke Haagenti.

He had already moved.

A blur of monstrous force, Haagenti tore through the ocean with terrifying speed, wielding a massive spear that left a distorted trail in the water behind it. He barreled straight through Queen Nerisa’s soldiers, sending several flying in his wake, aiming himself directly at the queen.

Attack after attack struck him along the way—ice shards, pressure bursts, elemental waves—but nothing seemed to slow him down. He deflected or absorbed them all, shrugging off the damage like a creature built for pure destruction.

And then, at the last second, the Named Demon was there, just a breath away from Queen Nerisa.

He roared, spear pulled back, ready to strike—aimed straight for her heart.

Broken jolted upright, breath caught in his throat.

Was she going to be okay?!
